Thanks for this. When I got my first ball drilled, the pro shop owner said I didn't need to squeeze the ball anymore. I then proceeded to drop my new ball at the back of my swing. I squeeze way too hard now. Can't wait to try this method and see how it works for me!
Good one JR., "Momentum will release the ball". My coach told me to stop trying to get the ball off my hand, momentum or the weight of the ball will naturally release it.
Thanks for that tip JR. I used to squeeze properly a few years ago but somehow I got into a bad habit of bending my thumb and I’m starting to see a knot developing on the top left of my thumb. Thanks to your video I’m going to start working on doing it the proper way again.
😄I literally just started doing this Sunday in league and my consistency, rev rate, and speed went right up. That was the last missing piece to perfect my physical game.
Momentum or gravity! 😂😂😂😂 I still tend to squeeze with the thumb on the back swing, but at the top I make it a point to push my thumb up. I guess I feel like I won't drop it that way. It also seems to be a timing thing too. Like step and squeeze then up and thrust forward on the swing. I do notice my release become way more consistent if nothing else.
Thanks JR!! .. I need to work on exactly this! .. I have gotten much much better with my release but I can certainly improve on my consistency if I can get this working for me. Consistency is definitely one area I am weak. Thank you sir!
Very helpful, so now you'd have to address (1) releasing with your thumb more behind the ball than on top of it and how that affects your grip, (2) thumb fit and what is considered 'snug' with different thumb shapes (tapered versus larger knuckle and thinner). While I have gotten better with (1), I am still struggling with (2) since my thumb knuckle is wider than the tip of my thumb, plus my thumb tapers too much towards the tip, which allows my thumb to wiggle inside the ball even though it is snug from the knuckle towards the palm.
It's my worst trait, I squeeze every shot, I have two huge blisters on yhe back right of my thumb. I actually over exaggerated pushing my thumb nail back against ball on first night of League. I'm 53 have always squeezed so it's hard habit to break, but one of my quirks I know I need to fix. Will see if I can continue trying in Week Two. Love the quick tips keep em coming.
If you can try to get your hand more under the ball during your down swing and release, you will naturally bend the elbow a bit. Make sure you keep your elbow in!
Squeezing the ball is my biggest issue, besides my behind the back swing. If I don’t squeeze the ball, my speed increases 3 mph., and my shots are more online, even with my crappy swing.
This helped me immensely 😊
You did a video about this a few years ago and I've been doing this ever since. It has really helped me with a more consistent release.
That reverse pressure trick as helped me out so much

Great teacher . By the wristband a man of god . And oh yeah a SWEET RELEASE .

Same thing with me!
I started getting that knot, too. I had my PSO put a reverse pitch on my thumb hole. No more squeezing. Clean releases. Check into that reverse pitch.
Thanks Kevin. I have zero pitches in my thumb now but I used to have reverse a few years ago. I’m going to look into changing them.
@@jimmyscott6159 Hope it works for you.
My thumb got all torn up from knuckling my
Thumb in the ball. Shit wouldnt heal for months

Love it, great tip JR.

Great tip
Cool video talk tech bowling bowling ball Jr Raymond
Thanks for the info JR. FYI, that was pretty funny. Thanks.
Can you do a video about how to bend your elbow during the release.

i wish someone had told me this in highschool when i was i bowling alot. 🤦

Great video! Thank you!
I already won 🏆 the more I bowling 🎳 more I'll be the king 🤴 🤪 crazy 🤪 😜
JR, have you done a ball review yet on the teal Rhino?
Thanks for the tip. What about your fingers? Are those supposed to be relaxed as well?
I don’t use any grip pressure at all in my set up.
So that's why I have a knot on the back of my thumb!
Now I got to train my thumb again 😢
Any suggestions if you can’t roll your thumb back like that? Thx
I’ll take the lack of response as no solution to my question/issue.
Or just have your thumb hole so tight with tape you can’t squeeze. Been doing that for years now.
I just cant seem to get the damn ball to swing . frustrating
What about the calluses on the inside of your thumb?
Mine are on the inside of my thumb too
But then during the backswing the ball wants to fall off/slip, so what gives?

#meeee too!! Bruteeee!!!!
I keep trying to spin the ball with my thumb. After a night of bowling, I can feel the side of my thumb getting numb.
Keep adding tape till u can backwards squeeze. Then u realize your thumb hole is way to big.
That’s the biggest damm earplug I’ve ever seen.
