I love the honesty of this video. Struggling with the launch, yanking on the outboard, slow fishing. Fishing is not always as glamorous as it’s made out to be. Awesome stuff! Good luck with the new rig!
With the motor in the up position move the pin toward the transom one hole at a time till the front stops bouncing up and down at full speed. After that if the waves are high run half throttle
A keel guard is a good idea to protect the nose of the board. A smaller engine was even better. Have fun on your new micro skiff. Looking forward to see more videos fishing out on the Bote board.
yep smaller motor for sure.
Awesome! Get that thing down to the 10K islands/Everglades.
Thanks for bringing us along!!! I enjoyed your video.
love the video so fare and glad to see you are having fun glad to support you
Much respect for what your doing. You'll workout all the bugs, then it will be a breeze. Great video.
Lawson, congrats on the new Rover. I've had one for a year now and here are some tips. Take the motor off when you transport. It will help you get the Rover in/out of the truck/water easier. Second, to get the Rover back in the truck, take the motor off. With a thick towel, you can tip the Rover on its side to get the wheels back on. This is especially helpful when you are not at a boat ramp. And finally, get yourself a Sand Spear--it's essential for anchoring, especially when its blowing. You're gonna love it!
If you transport without the motor into the water from the boat ramp, how do you get the motor on while in water? just carry? I’ve read not to lay the motor on its side
@@michaelhagans965 Hello Michael, here is how I do it. (Launching) - pull rover to the launch and put bow in the water. Stern is out of the water. Then mount the motor and make sure it is trimmed up (so the prop won't drag on the concrete). When ready to go, just lift up on the rear grab bar and the wheels will come out. Take the wheels back to the car then you can launch. When coming back in, paddle up to launch, pull bow up into dry area of ramp with engine trimmed and still in the water. Walk to back of rover and take motor off and set it to the side--my Tohatsu can be laid on the side but you have to switch the fuel lever off and screw in the air valve on the gas cap. Then I have a yoga mat that I'll put on the concrete, tip the rover on its side to put the wheels back on. My 6hp Tohatsu weighs about 50 lbs--its not a big deal and I'm 60. It takes maybe 1-2 mins to mount the motor.
@@marktoch95 thanks so much for the response. Must be a good rig if you still using after 3 years! I ended up getting the 9.9hp Hidea from their website. Hope it holds up at least a little bit then I’ll get a better name brand later
@@michaelhagans965 Let me know how the Hidea works out for you. 6 HP is plenty for me. Another reason to take the motor off is that I used to leave motor on when transporting (in back of truck) with bow in first. Over time, developed some stress cracks in mid-section about where rover was on tailgate. Fixed without issue using some Epoxy but I'll never transport with Motor on anymore. The fiberglass just isn't that thick. For me, it's been a great rig. When I fish with my son I simply tow his kayak. Then he can snook fish and I can trout fish without any arguments--ha. I love the ability to go just about anywhere my truck can go and the fact that I'm not paying storage fees for a boat anymore. If you have any more issues or concerns, be happy to chat or email (mtoch21@gmail.com).
When you turned that skiff sideways while still on the ramp I was waiting for it to roll over, brave lad!
Dude I have one love it, you need to put all the weight in front even the leaning post so you get a extension for the motor throttle, gas tank tackle it will ride so much better ; )
Great video. Love the Paddleskiff!! I watched a few videos on the one you have and I agree, it opens up so many unique fishing locations previously unavailable to you. Makes me want one. Keep it up!
This was a great video depicting the real struggles we sometimes have as fishermen. Whether its a new or different boat, fishing a new area, changing weather or whatever. Man I would find me a good used trailer for a couple hundred bucks and take the pain out of launching and loading. We use a 4 x8 flat bottom trailer for our canoes and kayaks. Beats all that work putting in and out of bed. I learned years ago that its a good idea to crank an outboard at least once before leaving home. Doesnt have to run but a few seconds. It would be nice if there was an extension for the tiller handle that crooks around so you can stir from the side instead of having to sit at an angle. Really like the new boat.
Great start for the new chapter bro, looking forward to more.
Almost 100K Lawson. Proud of you, youre my favorite!!!
Nice video man I’m exited for the future of this channel thanks for sharing it with uss man ... god bless 🙏
Lawson, awesome skiff dude!! You really should wear some kind of PFD when going from one location to another. Especially when it's rough out.
Some states it's the law to wear one when operating a tiller motor. Not sure of the law in florida, might be worth looking up
Slayin_Legends_With_Steven just required to be on board the vessel
And the kill switch
Hey Lawson I love using mirror lure twitch baits and I notice many fish miss the lure so I usually move it pretty slow
I was skeptical when I first saw this but wow, great idea brother. Anything to find new water is awesome. Be safe an get an NRS pfd an fish tomorrow.👍
Thank for showing the reality of launching and starting. Very honest representation of reality of not having an engine starter. The only think missing was slipping and falling as you get near the edge of a launch site 😊
Wow man. You’re truly pioneering a new style there. Inspiring stuff and it’s not just the same old same ol. Props to you
Definitely gotta get a tiller extension so you can stand and drive. Maybe a cushion for the cooler too
Absolutely. Tiller extension and cushion. Been there already on a solo skiff
Another useful tactic using your train of thought, is to tow a kayak or paddle board into back country. Can take a buddy/ extra hands/ back up when things get weird.
Love it, I miss fishing the salt marshes in Jacksonville with my 8wt and kayak. Your video reminds me of some of the feeder creeks and flats I'd squeeze into.
Bring that Jack Scooter over here to Naples and fish the big Tarpon in the Ten Thousand Islands; put in at Goodland. Love your new ride.
That thing looks sick bro👍👍
I have an old waterman and fish tiny mangrove creeks like that all the time. Your going to love it.
Very nice the maiden voyage is always the ruff one! Look forward to the future awesome stuff!
super excited you picked up a bote. you'll have some great content headed for this channel
Insane setup I'm excited to see you push that thing in new places
Cool video Lawson! Looking forward to all your future adventures. I have a pelican bass raider that my wife and I take in similar places.Once I parked by an oyster bar by Weedon island in Tampa bay and unbeknownst to me a manatee had parked beneath me. When I went to reposition and put the trolling motor in gear I startled the Manatee and with one flick of it's tail about made me fall out of the boat! My Labrador kept sleeping. An experience I'll never forget! I've also had dolphins cruise alongside. That close to the water makes it truly awesome! Have fun! I know you will.
Wow! Based on this video I am definitely going to get a Gheenoe skiff for ultra shallow / technical poling.... second boat ... thanks for helping me make up my mind 🙏 I almost bought that solo skiff 👍
I run a solo skiff and i enjoy it a lot. affordable and can run where any boats run but also hit the shallow flats. think it would be great to see some skinny water fishing and after a while of getting used to it try and hit some of the deep water. Great to see I youtube hit the micro life, keep up the great videos!
I love what you are doin man it couldn't be better. Put on that PFD.
That thing is very cool ! Your deadlifting skills are coming in handy!
Really exited to see you fish in new places with that.
I'm so glad you got something to get back out on the water. I was hoping you'd do some kayaking, but this is close enough. Keep up the great videos!
Great video. Love your channel. Learning alot.
Man I love ur videos keep up the good work.
Lawson, love this video man!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very nice man been thinking of getting one myself cant wait to see how she does on the water
I love the sea fishing from the depths of greeting and appreciation to you from the Kingdom of Morocco
Just got my skiff recently {about a month now) as well, it's a Powerfisha16 made by Stealth. I think the hull weighs about 60kg and it's glass, a bit lighter than yours but still awkward to move. A trailer definitely helps, or just try to load it straight into the water if possible. I normally kayak fish, but got the skiff to be able to cover more ground when I'm targeting more specific species of fish and need to run to certain holes/spots and also as you said to hit up spots others will have a hard time to reach.
I just love this kind of fishing man
We await your arrival in KW!
Nice rig for the Backcountry down here.
Damn...looks like that outboard engine will send that little skiff into flight! Lol
Flipping awesome like always buddy keep it up my man !!!
Thanks for the tips on fishing artificial shrimp! It caught me my first artificial fish in the salt! (It was a mangrove snapper lol.)
I was fishing it wrong too bro. I hit the heck out of those speckled trout as soon as I slowed it down like he suggested.
I caught a redfish last year on a DOA Cal paddletail... and inside its stomach when I cleaned it was an artificial shrimp lol.
Imagine seeing Lawson being towed by a huge submarine jack in that thing across the river 😂
You probably should have tried the solo skiff as well. They’ll handle the chop better
Few things. 1. you have a heavy 10 hp engine with an external tank. There are many lighter units out there like the recommended Tohatsu 9.9 2. The rover is intended to use an extended arm so you aren't sitting at the back. You can see the water coming over when you reverse. If you were a foot forward it would plane better in the chop. 3. like everyone else points out. Wear your pfd.
So excited for more videos like these
LOVE IT BROTHER TRULY GONA BE A GREAT ASSET TO THE CHANNEL!!!!
Good video as always, I'm a big fan of this channel, greetings from Peru
Pretty funny to see the grin on your face first time opening it up. Great vid man awesome content
U should look at Salt Marsh Skiffs for ur technical poling skiff
Awesome Lawson keep up da good work
I paddled that loop a few weeks back with similar results but it was beautiful.
hell yes! just got off work to this! was hoping youd upload footage from being on it, cant beat getting it the next day!
Lawson, thank you for showing getting the wheels off. As I was watching I was like," shit hows he going to do that?" lol Then you did it. It kills me that your onboard tackle storage is a $300 cooler lol. Love the new micro, get her off shore!
Ye man the Rover is sick. Love it.
If it works the same as with my 6 HP, when you're in open water, you can set the throttle and tiller and move forward. Keep your safety leash on and lean from side to side to steer. You can make a cheap PVC 4 wheel set if your wheel rac is a problem.
Awesome man. Looks like a blast!
Look into a Grand lake canoe. Built for Northeast Maine waterways. Great for getting into places like that!
I used to have a solo skiff. There's definitely going to be a learning curve loading and unloading.
Awesome little skiff
"What a piece of junk! Am I right?!" By far the best part. Good stuff Lawson. Keep it up.
Looks good!
You definitely need to get a jetski trailer; just back it in and float it off. That was a game changer for me and my Feelfree Lure 13.5 kayak. That thing is such a beast when I have my gear in it and just too much for me to handle when I'm by myself. Now it's no problem at all. Great video! Was glad to finally see one of these in action.
Bro you were rockin in that thing!!!
haha awesome man looking forward to the future channel
I can't wait to buy the both rover. That thing is gonna be a skinny water machine!!
Great video that skiff looks killer👍
Pull start engines will actually make you want to break something when they dont start haha
Any engine can do that when it doesn't start. I remember being 15 miles out from Cape Canaveral offshore when our engine didn't start and a storm was rolling in. It turned out later that it was the fuel/water separator that failed, but at the time we had no idea. The best part was when we pulled the plugs on the outboard to check to see if each was getting spark and I dropped the plug wrench... tink tink tink splash in 60 feet of water. Was a long day.
I would return that motor .....
@@geraldmcclintock2567 I was thinking exactly the same thing, Gerald. A brand new four stroke motor ? WTF ? I was expecting it to start first pull.
My Honda 15 cranks on the first pull EVERYTIME
carb looks flooded has to burn off excess fuel before running right
Great video as always,
I've been fishing Everglades national park for years, mainly out of chokoloskee, as far south as Rodgers/Harney area. What you bought is and excellent skiff to get up into some really skinny water/magical places that only few see. The problem is when the typical afternoon summer T-storm rolls through and it kicks up in Big Lostman's bay, Alligator bay, Dad's etc. It can get super nasty very quick, it takes very little wind to kick up some chop back in those areas. It would be dangerous for you to venture out. My advice to you would be to get a traditional flats skiff (hell's bay, egret, maverick) and have a canoe tied to the deck. This way you can get to where you want to go safely and get into super skinny water and have a safe way home.
Nice job on the video, looks like fun!
Love your videos man, me & my buddy always like to reply your videos with a couple beers!!
Sees shark.. I think we're gonna need a bigger boat. Lol love your channel man keep it coming
Man this video made me laugh so hard with all that ball pumping and rope pulling with no end and that bumping the rump waves
Lol that is to funny my first boat growing up in Jupiter at 10 yrs old was a 14 ft aluminum john boat also 👍👍👍
Looking like twins. Lawsonlindsey Thresherfishing ha!!!
Now you have me saving up for one of these
That thing looks sick I love my solo skiff
Lawson, where's your flotation device? ...that's a nice BOTE!
Trailer is defiantly the way to go. The magic tilt mt14 works the best for that rover. looks like you had fun on it!
Hey Lawson--Bob Knauer here. It was really great meeting you today down in Ft. Pierce as you were headed out on A1A towards the mangroves with your new BOTTE and girl. Hope you caught something, weather being what it was, but I did--caught a Sheapshead her the bridge after I turned off behind you. Hope to see you around again sometime. Your subscriber friend...Bob Knauer from Vero Beach.
Plz take that skiff to the everglades. :)
I'm visiting Florida with my family. I wish I had time to join Lawson on a quick fishing trip :-)
That was cool giddy up
I have been on one of these things before and I suggest a cooler seat, tiller extension, stick in anchor that u can pole with and use as an anchor
love seeing the good but enjoy the bad just as much it's important to show the hard times and the learning times aswell it's not always easy and gear doesn't always perform as expected you could edit the video and make the new boat seem so awesome and easy to use but you showed the struggle 👍
John Bracewell
I thought the same thing, John. We all know that a fishing video gives the impression that you are catching fish one after the other, and not showing the hours of fruitless effort, for obvious reasons. But that's fishing. However, it's good to see the hard times , where things don't go so well.
I wonder how he got those wheels back on the skiff ? It looks like a bit of a mission getting it in the water, and maybe a battle getting it out.
Our "lawso" is an adventurous lad, and top marks to him for that.
Florida/gators ? don't they go together ? I'm Australian, so I know nothing about your fishing environment, but wouldn't it be a bit risky fishing in that skiff in gator country ?
@@steiny3353 gators are a lot like sharks they get close to you look and investigate however larger ones can be aggressive but people usually keep them killed out. Louisiana has a law any captured gator over 5 foot is suppose to be killed or put in a zoo/ some type of enclosure
@@johnbracewell3700 Thanks for the info mate. I didn't know if they were as aggressive as our crocs over here
@@steiny3353 always heard crocs are way more aggressive. One of our local ponds here in south Alabama (almost Florida) has a giant gator probably 11 feet or so tip to tail and several people fish the pond with her in it and so far no problems but you never know with an animal that large what could happen
Not to sound like a mother, you need to wear a life vest when underway. Get an inflatable. Also suggest a stick-it anchor pole. Great vids, be careful out there!
Marjorie Bray your right
I was also thinking that
Doubt he takes it anywhere more than 5 feet of water lol
@@freelo5127 don't matter if you crash and knock yourself out. But TBH, I probably would be wearing a life vest either lol
Probably would save him a huge ticket by a warden.
Even a good swimmer cant swim if they hit their head hard on something while getting thrown overboard. Instant death...Don't let your family and friends down. PFDs are totally worth it!
Cool video man!! Lol I agree with the pfd thing. But to each his own!!
Great looking boat
Congrats on 100k
New Bote looks like a lot of fun and super cool !
Love it bro.......be careful on that thing........ Tight lines
Hi, when you put that jack slayer in the water i thought, now, how does he get the wheels off, lol. Gonna be seeing some fun with that boat. Good health and stay safe.
1. unload from the truck bed straight into the water. 2. in a rough chop, stand and absorb the shock with bent knees. 3. think tiller extension so you can stand. 4. wang stick,it's manual can't fail and cheap.5. poling is quieter then paddling, maybe a light pole . Great honest video. I loved it, Thank you.
Can't wait until I get back to Florida sometime Saturday, 1300 miles with kayak on top of the car from Chicago. I plan on fishing mostly in the Goodland and Everglades City areas for redfish, snook, and trout but I'm going to take along my heavy action rod and 6500 Spinfisher reel with 65# braid just in case I happen upon a tarpon. I've never caught a tarpon before but I hear with the warm weather lately they're already moving north so hopefully I at least get one on the line!
Love the video, watched it twice. Which park is that ramp located at? Im in aouth florida and was just curious if it was anywhere near me.
