As a guy who has been playing 40K, I have to say that the 3 games of AOS 3 i have played are some of the best games I’ve ever had. Loving my stormcast and am now a convert for sure
Awesome!
First it was “vampirates”, now it’s “spirit pirates”… ib4 “ghoul pirates” followed by “tomb pirates” and then zombie pirates”…
I’d laugh so hard if that rumour engine is just an endless spell for soulblight and that was the entire basis for the vampirate rumour.
It would be truly amazing.
Oooooh damn, Vince is about to hit the big 69k
Let's hope. :)
@@VinceVenturella oh its just a matter of time, we both know you'll get there =]
~2 1/2 hours?? Is this just a first half upload after some technical problems or something?
#OnlyTheFaithful 😉👍
Totally agree. What the hell.
This is what happens when Tyler isn't here
None can keep pace with Prince of Excess - Vince!
When I hear "Settlers Gain" I think about "The Settlers Game"...
Yeah, they need to dial in. ;)
Really liking this show! I actually started my journey in this game on Cities, and I agree. I made mistakes in how I got into it, bought all over the range and have models I'm sure I'll use one day. Loving it now but took a few years to get my feet under me
Makes sense.
Finally coming back to AoS this week after 20 months away, so this is very timely and should be very useful.
Excellent
@@VinceVenturella I’m coming back to AoS with Lumineth. 😂
O.M.G. ghostly pirate dread fleet, I'm HYPED! please continue hitting the table :)
We can all hope. :)
Really nice to see the classic warhammer weekly crew back together. I like Tyler but it’s great to have Tom back
It's good to have Tom back and to have extended the family. :)
Good discussion and agree with a lot of statements on where to start AoS
Thank you, happy to help.
"Nighthaunt ghost boat" has aged incredibly well
Yep
When I played my first game of 3.0 (which was the first game of Aos since the launch edition) we used everything. 2000 pts, battle tactics, grand strategies, etc. It was a lot to keep track of, but it wasn’t as daunting as it first seemed imo.
I mean we did make a few mistakes, but I think we would have done those regardless since it was the first time playing for both of us. We both kept talking the entire game, reminding each other and ourselves about the different options we had at the moment.
It was fun. Not the most beginner friendly game I’ve played, but not overly difficult. The structure of the rule book makes it quite easy to look things up, so that helps a lot.
I do think all of these suggestions for introducing people to the game are very solid, and it’s probably what I would do if I ever start introducing people to AoS. A great episode!
That's good to hear for sure. :)
Currently watching great show as ever avid watcher of the show. Agree with the lists as someone who had years of experience with fantasy years ago I came back to the hobby over a year ago 1st with necrons in 40K & now this year I’m doing my 1st AOS army. Christmas I got a lumineth box & it was a joy to paint, however after some thought & seeing how there not the most fun army for any of my opponents to play, I changed my mind & went kruelboyz from dominion instead. I may come back to them at some point however I want some simplicity 1st & experience 2nd. I may just go for something like soulblight gravelords as my next one until I feel more comfortable in the hobby with all the rules, synergies & my painting improves along the way also. Very informative & entertaining show as ever :-)
Sounds like a plan to me and always happy to help. :)
i grabbed ogors for first army bc i wanted to get them when they released in fantasy before aos when I was a preteen, low model count with great start collecting/vanguard, and all of vinces videos on painting them weere super helpful and got me the closest to having a fully painted army ever in the hobby (i was a perennial proxy kid using primed skeletons for everything lol)
11:08 You do not stand alone Vince. Adding army specific core battalions & battle tactics was a wrong move.
I completely agree. Let’s all use the same pool of battalions and battle tactics.
I feel as though Gandalf just came from the east. :)
Ulguh was expanded a fair bit compared to what it was before in the new Core book, even describing Melarions Legions and so on and mapped out as well.
It's a good point, I am just excited we are really seeming to dive into this realm.
I'm 99% sure the pattern on the prow blade of the rumour engine boat is a match for the patterning on the boat wreck on the shoulder of the kraken eater. And that kit also had lumineth lantern as wearing ahead of time and early look at war cry details, so that's pretty cool.
Very nice catch
Can confirm that Cities is a TOUGH army to start. None of the models are stocked by flgs where I live and many of the models are very expensive for how much they actually fill out your army. Not to mention the start collecting boxes are average with little rebuy potential.
Could not agree more. Only solution is direct from GW.
Makes sense. :)
I got an airbrush kit for my birthday and finally jumped onto big waaaagh of kruleboyz and ironjawz... best decision i’ve made in a long time. I love the army and even tho i’m not making every mini the best mini i’ve painted i can tell that i’m genuinely having a lot of fun😋
Awesome!
Ghost pirates sound great - this could be a nice army scheme.
Ghost with eye patches and hook hands. Great!
Nailed it.
My only issue with Nighthaunt, as it currently plays, for new players is that they are going to have to get use to measuring A LOT. It’s an army of overlapping auras broadcast out from fragile leaders.
This is true.
As someone who got into AoS with NH, the fact that all your heroes have similar range auras makes it somewhat easier for measuring. Granted, it's super easy to accidentally pile-in outside those Aura ranges, so there's a little bit of a learning curve there.
As a snake DoK player, I find Start Collecting perfect. Snakes and a Cauldron with Snake on it? Yes please.
Too bad Shadow and Pain was limited release, as that was fantastic starter for cheap.
Start Collecting DoK+Morathi+two DoK halves of Shadow and Pain get you well over 2k points on its own. I added Endless Spells too, because it has snake in it, and I love snakes.
So even at full GW prices(for USA) it would be 433$. But there are many retailers with 15-20% discount, so mine was cheaper.
If you are into snakes and can still find Shadow and Pain at original prices (and know someone to split it with or just sell Slaanesh half on ebay), you have cheap and compact way to get an army.
Now, if you are into bikini elves, there are no good starter options available for some reason. While I have no interest in it, I find it really weird that other distinct half of the army has no starter at all.
I think that's an excellent summation right there, dead on.
Fantastic show as always
Glad you enjoyed it
House of War who brought the Thunderhawk is my local gaming shop too, I can't wait to check it out!! I also had no idea AoS List Labs was local to my area too :O
Thats awesome. :)
*Tears drop onto my IDK, 2 years later as I still work through them…*
Yep
Hi warhammer weekly crew, thanks for the ep. would love to see a segment on what basic statistics and probability concepts you would recommend new or intermediate gamers learn. And if you have any good resources for those. Thanks heaps sam
That's a great idea. :)
I can say, painting 20 tzaangors for my BoC army for the up and coming War in the Heartlands. I can TOTALLY agree with you both saying that they’re hard to paint.
I figured mid August, ‘Hey, paint 1-2 hours every day, that will get the 20 in time for the event’ now with about 3 weeks left I am STILL painting them. Thankfully I am almost finished. Wish me luck.
Yep, nightmare.
Upcoming milestone:
Nice
Nice
My first army was OBR. It was and still is quite the experience.
Indeed. :)
I started with Sons of Behemat. 3 of the megas, 1 forgeworld gargant and 6 babies. I love playing them and model wise they are fantastic plus all the conversions you can do. Now on the other end of the spectrum I'm building grot heavy Gloomspite. Now I'm struggling to build and paint 120 grots.....
Yeah, those are very opposite ends of the spectrum. :)
Great episode, just caught up. I'd agree with Tom about Nurgle (As someone who has now collected over 4 or 5 thousand points now, and it was my first army) painting? Yes. Collecting? No. It can be a bit difficult to buy everything you need. 🤔
Totally fair.
Great show. I wonder how optional the Core book is for those looking to use Path To Glory as an entry path. I believe the CB is the only place those rules appear?
Yes, that is a good point I should have put a finer point on.
Well as a newish (haven't played since 40K 2nd edition) player siting with shinto elf and tzeentch armies this looks like it's going to be a… interesting ride.
Both this video and the one on player profiles are a great source of information, for new players especially ones with a background in MtG.
Although I will probably have to go against your advice, and go with Legion of th First Prince, as that gives greater variety when painting.
A crazy decision, but I love it. :)
The real og unit auto thumbs up
You know it. :)
Short & sweet this week. As a CoS player who plays against a Lumineth a lot... YES, it's def. a big brain/play fast/stay organized army, otherwise the play exp. as an opponent is borderline oppressive. CoS is like a treasure hunt to collect, but I would love any advice on sourcing an Anointed on FrostPhoenix, legit or proxy. Not having much luck w/ EBay/discounters...
MyMiniFactory has some awesome 3D print options.
heck yeah im totally OK with ghost pirates and dwarf update / chaos dwarfs
Both would be amazing. :)
great show guys, some really cool points made here. Do you also have a link to the websites that make these spell cards that tom mentions (around the 58min mark) as this would be really cool and not to mention that i am rubbish with photo shop lol!
Just search magic card maker, you'll find lots of options.
@@VinceVenturella thank you :-)
Only 2,5 hours? I thought we added time every show so there’s more to enjoy!?
I feel snubbed ;)
Great show as always and im looking forward to more! Can you do a show on tactics and tips/tricks?
100%, it's something I really want to do.
@@VinceVenturella when you hit 69420 subs you have to make a 10 hour special show with tactics 😂😇
Love that i started my aos journey with slaanesh... 6 month baptism of fire... Actually enjoyed it but maybe im broken
It's a crucible.
Cities of Sigmar does indeed have some of the best proxy potential, as you not only have countless fantasy miniature lines to choose from, you can also pull from basically all of the Historical miniatures market. Anything from prior to the 20th century is fair game, from ancient Romans and Egyptians, all the way up to Napoleonics or various 19th century wars.
Moreover, different historical military forces lend themselves to easier or more difficult painting. Landsneckt soldiers are literally just the Empire again in terms of complexity. Whereas full plate European men-at-arms could get away with metallic paint from a rattle can and be mostly done.
totally agree
Yes, Swedish Kronor, Vince, you got the bidding currency correct!!💙💛💙
Excellent!
Lol, I chose IDK but saved by the painting project point for me
Yeah, as painting, it makes sense.
If there is one thing that never ceases to amaze me is the variety of cheap, random stuff they sell in dollar, hobby and hardware stores and on amazon in america. I live in hungary and i have to order from the german page of amazon if i wanted something which will have a 20-30 euro delivery price and will not deliver like 80% of the products anyways. We don't have dollar or i guess euro stores here, hobby stores are artist stores that exclusively sell paint and brushes and finally hardware stores like obi only really sell most things in construction quantities. This isnt really related to the video i just wanted to get it out cause i always find it hilarious.
That's just a shame, I am always hunting for the cheap deals. :)
I know I'm probably too late for a comment but your talk about nighthaunt reminds me of harlequins for 40k. My girlfriend started with harlequins, and people tried to tell us it was too complex for a new player, because the army depends on movement shenanigans, but it turns out that's all harlequins have to think about. Every model ignores terrain, enemy models, rend, shooting(mostly) and all they care about is moving 4 or 5 times per turn and charging. Certain kinds of nuance can work great depending on the new player, as long as that nuance is focused and ignores other rules
That's a fascinating comparison.
I started with gloomspite gitz because I love the models. I went a soup list because I had a bunch of goblins already from skull pass. I have played them in about 6-7 games and tbh I don’t like playing them at all. Compared to playing the dominion stormcast it was night and day the stormcast army could deep strike and punch and it was way more fun
Yeah, it's kind of a tough army to play honestly.
Oof I am starting with Skaven…played Skaven back in fantasy so at least I know what I am getting into.
It's rough on the models but here is the thing, it's really a fun army to play, you are the underdog, but you'll have fun.
i love the part when the guy says "yup"
It's a common part. ;)
I wanted to start with sce or orruks but now after this video I'm also considering fec... I want to choose army easiest to paint so I'm not sure what to pick now :D
Honestly, all great choices, all relatively easy paints.
pretty new to AOS though have been collecting and painting for fun for a while, wanted to play Gitz, and am almost done with my army, but in between making that army I bought built and painted a Giant army LOL
Yeah, that sounds right.
Is Vince’s cheat-sheet, mentioned during the discussion, available online somewhere?
I shared it back sometime ago, I'll see if I can get it back out there, it's simple but effective. :)
@@VinceVenturella excellent, thanks Vince.
Thanks for all you guys do. Looking forward to the Path to Glory show, really like playing that way.
Nurgle purchase list - is the box with 20PB, sloppity and spoilpox available or was that a limited time only box?
It was a single run rather than limited edition or anything, so you might still be able to find one
Limited time, but it's a great box.
What's your suggestion for missions for beginners, in terms of simplicity and also for lower point games?
The three in the core book and Vantage Point are good starting scenarios.
I really want to play Path to Glory. Just wish I could *get* the rules outside of the massive corebook.
Going to start an Idoneth shark army now that Idoneth seem to have fallen off the top of the meta so I don't need to feel bad about bringing 6-8 sharks and some battleline eels to make it legal. I wonder what fits at 1k...
I am sure there is some version that fits at 1K, though it might not have enough sharks. :)
@@VinceVenturella can one ever truly have enough sharks?
I think this list of best armies for new players is subjective, LRL was my first army, my first tome and I took to it like a fish in water, and have been having nothing but fun, and it’s also fun to paint and the detail kind of hides simple paint jobs because there is so much of it, it is just an inherently good looking army, the price is a big thing tho because there is no easy way to collect them (I managed to find the first starter box for them)
I mean, yes, it's certainly subjective overall, but that also doesn't mean you can't say anything about it. You can lay down the sort of factors and apply those to baseline expectations of the general populace. (This music is VERY LOUD and lacks any sort of melody. That means most people won't like it. That doesn't mean NO ONE likes it, some people will really love that scream singing. ;) )
Rumor engine: perhaps Shadow Elf models tying back into the Dark Elf pirate theme? Ulgu. Rumors of an Umbraneth army. I'd certainly prefer Ghost Pirates, but my money is on yet more elves.
It's always the aelves. ;)
@@VinceVenturella I prefer the good ol' days of fantasy when the elves were a dying race. There's entirely too many of them running around the Realms.
I'm a new player and I've just bought the Lumineth preorder box 😅
Well, you're in for quite a time. :)
Vince, you need to do a show just about being "Frugal", and "Cheap Life Hints". I'll get you started: my Dad puts 2-3 bricks in every toilet tank. He swears he saves $50-60 on water a year!!🤣 PS: he drives a Jaguar. He's not hurting for cash, just cheap, lol!!💖
That would be a great hobby cheating. :)
Can I add another reason that Sylvaneth are not a good first time army? When I first got into this game, Sylvaneth was my first purchase and I was super excited. But because I was new and had not yet developed a steady painting hand AND the Sylvaneth have thorns and branches and little bits all over the place, I literally bled for my models. I took a branch under the nail and I (don't ask me how, it doesn't make any sense) somehow impaled a pointer finger.
But damn did that start collecting box look good.
AMazing, the trees are getting vicious! ;)
Any chance of getting other cheatsheets linked besides Weirdboys?
I'm not sure of any others to link them.
2:29:00 For 3d printed models at my local club people are fine with them, but they aren't hugely common to be fair. More 3d printed is cool and good in my book.
Agreed, find the best models that you love, that's what matters. :)
Should have added a third axis to your graph showing painting difficulty...who doesn't love a three axis graph you have to view at a weird angle to work that then obscures information!
Yeah, the old X/Y/Z axis. ;)
Do you like my daughters of Behemat army? I'm running a superstar warstomper, totally hair gatebraker and 2 Malibu kraken-eaters.
I suppose it's a lower cost option for sure. ;)
One of my MTG player friends, who is a Johnny, has showed interest in AOS because he thinks Gloomspite Gitz are hilarious. Given that Gloomspite has it kinda rough atm, what would you recommend? Have them start Gitz and hope they get their new Battletome soon? Or maybe have them start Skaven who have that same comedy +Johnny combo but with a better book?
Skaven could be a good option, as could Kruleboyz honestly.
Rumor engine may be from new Dreadfleet.
This would be very sad.
"Hit the like button before I piss you off" 😂😂. Obviously I had already hit that button, I always do before I start the vid 😎
and I apprecaite that. :)
Nice
Very nice
Cannot wait for 69,000 subs
Almost there. :)
For almost any game I play I gotta be hardheaded and pick the choice everybody says not to. The thing is I always pick it before I learn that it's not what you pick. Then I feel like I gotta commit. That said, I have made the jump from 40k to AoS with Bonereapers lol. I don't think I've had over wip 100 minis on my desk since I got into 40k. ALL THE SKELETONS
All the skeletons! ;)
I think Tzeentch is not just poor like the other Chaos gods - i started AoS with tzeentch, i already painted 120 minis so far, 50blue horrors, 50 brimstones and 20 Pinks so far, just 30 models more and i have around 700 points. :)
That's a lot of models for 700 points! :)
16:54 buying classic thunderhawks must be cheaper than buying stuff directly for Australians...
You're not wrong.
Where would you put Seraphon
They are in the medium category. :)
So I've been watching a lot of WW lately as I'm finally getting an itch to find some games and learn it now that stuff *seems* to be normalizing with COVID.
So if I've taken score right you are at 21/25 armies and I'm trying to figure out the 3 you don't have that aren't Fyreslayers.
KO, OBR,....Gitz? I would guess LRL but guessing because it's got so many cool sculpts you painted enough of it to run it.
Well, remember, one of my armies is 40K and 2 of my armies are in Legends (Brets and Tomb Kings). So I am missing KO, OBR, Gitz, LRL, IDK, Fyreslayers and Nighthaunt.
I am a new player and loved the look of lumineth. Needless to say, I'm struggling. Can anyone suggest a good guide for noobs? I'm already invested.
Cult of Paint has a nice painting guide all about keeping it reasonable but looking good, might want to check that out.
SC are only a good beginner Army if you have someone to tell you what units suck...you can build a bad list realy easy wich can be frustrating
It's a fair point, it's their major drawback is the number of units.
Two hours and twenty minutes?? Slow week 😉
No. I'm just back to reign in the silliness of 5 hour shows.
Yeah, really phoned it in this week. ;)
Is it terrible that i've been listening to your show for the last 4 years, and i've yet paint an entire AoS army, and haven't played a single game of AoS? In regards to the video, i have 3 of the 'low' armies, 1 of the 'medium' armies, and 1 of the 'high' armies.
Not terrible at all. You are far from alone in that. :)
Is there a non Twitter cheat sheet?
They might have it other places, I am not sure.
Id like a simple ruleset like aos for 40k, no big back and forth with strength and toughness
I would love it too. One Page Rules has a nice version right now
I now vote for Tyler being the best co-host. I don't what happened to Tom in his sabbatical that he has to tap and pound his desk when he talks now.
I've got to break him of that habit. :)
@@VinceVenturella yes please lol. I usually listen with headphones the next day and it is bad with the headphones.
Tom till I die, man.
I'm beginning to wonder if someone should release a fast, brutal, miniatures-agnostic ruleset that pits your hand picked cabal of pirates against your opponent's to determine who's mashup is the funnest. 😆 #whateverpirates
hmmmmm
I'll see what we can do. ;)
Tom!
He's back. :)
Yeah BoC are really tough for beginners: lots of bad rules and really tough playstyle. Disagree on the BoC assessment regarding the units you want though. For example, the Ghorgon is actually the OK thing in the SC now, and the Bestigors are the junk now with new coherency. Ungor spam is much less desirable now too. Most of us are running Warhounds and Centigors for chaff instead because they're not battleline. If you're interest in my thoughts on BoC in AoS3, I talked about them when I was on AoS Coach a few weeks ago.
All completely fair.
This was a good episode, this is a fine example why i've ended up quitting the game - everything ive ever loved is now in the headache section lol.
S2D i considered to be nice and smooth back in 2.0.....Thats why i moved over to them from Khorne, now its all just flown into the hard corner.
Personally i'm utterly baffled by GWs decision to make this game twice as complicated when its entire history has been so player friendly/fun up until now. :/
All i can do really is pray that when Khorne gets remade its the most Timmy army that Timmy has ever experienced....
What might be helpful from the company is if they introduce a new player friendly game mode that either cuts out alot of the nonsense or perhaps a small scale combat patrol concept, i know meeting engagements didn't live up to expectations but i loved it for having the right idea at least.
Path to glory doesn't interest me - that just bolts on YET more rules and complexity.
If folks in the community think im a scubby noob, i dont care!
This hobby is already a demanding niche in the world regarding prices, paint work, travelling with 100 models - its supposed to be fun not a second job.
Been there, done that. WFB died because of it and its why i wont touch 40k with a barge pole.
But on a more fun note.
Harrowdeep is an awesome setting, we have been wishing to see more of the oceans for some time now.
Either a Wraithfleet redesign or a bolted on expansion would be epic, even my family loves Nighthaunt and they dont even know what they are.
What excites me about Chaos dwarfs is that its looking more n more likely that they will be Aquatic themed also, be so good.
Like maybe a "Bioshock themed" evil green glow look. :D
Lot there, but the thing I agree with most - the new player mode. They really need this.
@@VinceVenturella Yeah sorry i had alot to say - But yeah a new player mode would be very helpful at this point.
In 2.0 i was happy to play up to a moderate army but now that the game is more difficult, its pushed me into needing an easy army to play instead - So i hope GW swings this back around and smooths the experience out for everyone......Khorne like i say would be a good start!
My first army was OBR, second was IDK….haha
OBR always would have been moderate, it's really with 3.0 they fell to bad. :)
@@VinceVenturella I agree with you guys, it’s not a good army for beginners in 3.0. I chose them in 2.0 because I loved the aesthetics.
I'm a woman who is new to the hobby after leaving it as a teenager due to sexual harassment in GW stores, and this is the first of your videos I've seen. Stuff like at 23:20 when a female character is being discussed and the first question asked is "does she have six [tits]" is really disappointing to me, and makes me think not much has changed in the last 15 years.
Hello, so first, let me just say thats awful that happened to you when you were younger, no two ways about that. As to the current state, I can't speak for everywhere, I know there are still challenges in wargaming to say the least. I can say that it's our goal to always be inclusive. This hobby is for everyone to enjoy, full stop, no exception. THe joke was certainly not meant with malice, but I also know that intent doesn't matter in this case and I'm sorry. I can say that our general goal is to provide information and be fun and welcoming to all. That doesn't mean we always succeed, but we certainly take it as a mission statement and know we are always trying to improve. I take the feedback and I hope the rest of the show was better and showed that we have no malice. I do think AoS is a very welcoming community and I do think things have changed, but that doesn't mean we still don't have a journey ahead of us.
@@VinceVenturella Thanks for replying. I hope my comment didn't come across as me saying "you're what's wrong with the community" or anything like that, because that wasn't my intention. I know the comment wasn't malicious, but I thought it was worth explaining how casually sexualising female characters makes some viewers feel, so that you could make a decision to change - or not - in the future. I did enjoy the rest of the video a lot, and it made me feel good about my choice to bring some Stormcast to my first game back at a store next week!
@@SlamTackle I didn't take it like that at all, just fair honest feedback and good feedback at that. I try to be thoughtful, but it's a good note that we always have room to keep growing. Stormcast is a great choice and I hope you have a great game with some great people.
I enjoyed the show but one thing had me shake my head. When you mention "This is easy for beginners! Just 3-4 start collecting boxes and you have an army!", I'd like to point out that you probably lost all beginners at the second box. Please do not encourage beginners to get 4 boxes. Start smaller! Beginner friendly should mean that 1, maybe 2 boxes should get you going.
I agree that some armies are easier to collect, and that is a valid metric, but I can not stress enough to keep games small to get started.
I recently started cleaning up my old WFB models and boxes, and some AoS projects. It's one big pile of failed projects. It reminded me of how the hobby was murdered in WFB by the completely insane level of hobby it required at the "norm" of 2.4K games. Swapping 2-3 units around could easily equate to painting 60 models. I couldn't paint those up at a speed to match the meta or tournament scene. Even today, in the oldhammer groups, you see bat reps of old WFB come up with armies that aren't painted. I'm still convinced that the hobby died in that game long before the game was discontinued because of the insane model requirements. I would hate to see that repeated for AoS.
3-4 start collecting boxes to throw a new player into the tournament scene are a great way to burn up a new player, quicker than a gasoline soaked match glued to the exhaust of a burning rocket.
Play small! Play painted! Better to play 5 small games with a painted army, than 1 big game with less than half of it painted. And when you have nothing left to paint, -then- you're ready for the next step.
It's a good note and why we are talking PtG next week :)
Vince Venturellla, 12:15: "You can agree with me, or be wrong. Your choice, it's a free country"...STEALING THIS!!🤣🤣🤣
Happy to help. ;)
Are we sure Vince isn't a KO because he's speaking pure "The Code" with his free paint stirer measuring sticks.
I have some strong KO tendencies. ;)
I so hope we get 90s style chaos dwarves and not like the one in the warcry band.
Who knows where they will go, but that one was specifically an Iron Golem, so he was not a general chaos dwarf.
@@VinceVenturella I was unemployed through lockdown but got a job late Feb. Forge world pulled them just before I really had the money, close call I was gonna drop a load.
Love your shows though, between you guys and Doug at 2+ helped me get through that time and invigorate my hobby.
Here is my take on the army specific additions:
Army specific battalions are fine.
They are very basic. Only slightly reordered core battalions with the same basic effects. Nothing like the old army specific battalions. And you only need to explain them when presenting your list. No need to remember the specifics for the battle.
Army specific grand strategies are bad / unnecessary.
These mostly just add clutter. Each army will already have a clear favorite or two among the core and GHB ones. So these will mostly not be used. And if they are, they have very little gameplay impact overall.
Army specific battle tactics are just terrible.
These add a lot of memory stuff during the battle. And create potentially balance issues. Even once all armies have them, there will sure be armies with 1 or 2 good ones while others only have trashy, super situational ones. Which leaves some armies with 7 or 8 options for 5 turns, while others only have 6.
I rate them in the same order of badness. ;)
I take it as a compliment my army is ranked low 😂 guess I’m just smart lol
It's just a flex now. :)
Not necessarily relevant to being new considering I've been playing since before AoS launched. But, I loved both 2000 point games I've played in 3E and yet have had absolutely zero motivation to play since around when the first GHB FAQ (and accompanying mass FAQ) dropped. No idea what it is, my army isn't even in a bad place in my opinion. Just can not find the drive to go play.
I think Nighthaunt is iffy on the new player list. Not because they are hard to play, but because they are hard to build without breaking. Yes they are easy to paint, but you have to get to that point first. Plus there are nigh essential heroes that are only in Soul Wars, which a new player may not be able to get ahold of, and even if they can they then have to deal with the misnumbered units in the box. I will agree that they are easier for new players considering the entire army is flying and doesn't care about Save modifiers.
Regarding Slaves, why is amount of unit variety a downside for them when Stormcast have like twice as many? To me, raw Slaves is WAY more approachable than Stormcast. You don't have to even consider Coalition starting out playing pure Slaves, that only matters if you want to expand into one of the specific gods.
It's a good discussion. It's not the only downside for slaves. They are also much harder to build lists with. Right now, you could expand just from Dominion and be a reasonably good place. There is no such guide with S2D, they are generally much more techy and difficult to build lists with so the large number of models becomes an additional challenge even though both do have that downside.

First time back and he’s hitting the table🤦♂️ really annoying with headphones on. Guess I should be grateful Vince isn’t so loud this week that my ear drums are bleeding.😂 great show guys but still doesn’t help me choose from the half dozen armies I’ve been flirting with 😂
Well, we tried (and I am going to break Tom of that habit sometime). ;)
