  • Today, I brought my friend Regis here to talk about his experience as an ArtCenter Student, majoring in Illustration. In the video, he talks about some of his college struggles, especially as an art student; some insightful tips, advice, and experiences that he had to help you guys out as well. Hopefully this video is able to help incoming students, not only to ArtCenter itself, but other art schools and programs nationwide! Let me know what other college experiences you guys want me to explore and interview; along with other tips and advice for college students or young adults in general. Don't forget to check out Regis' artwork profiles as he does a lot of VR art, illustration, and other works!

Back then, Art Classes didn't transfer to accd. I had to take perspective and lettering again at accd. They have an academic term where you just do non art classes, and the cost is reduced. That said, there is another aspect. The ability to pull multiple all nighters. Only the young.

I recently realized that i want to go to art school. I started community college at 15 in dual enrollment. Unfortumately since i was 13 i have struggled severely with depression and it took a toll on my grades. When i graduated highschool i continued on with CC and had a bad semester.
So I took a gap year and came back with only art classes remaining to comolete my AA. I ended up with a brilliant professor who motivated and inspired me and had me working the hardest i ever have. Ive taken 2 courses with him now and im excelling in school. It is just such a shame that i am stuck with a 2.5 GPA (unofficially) even though I am a completely different person who now earns As, with a different outlook on life, school, and work ethic. My teachers want me to continue in school and they think i have so much potential but i think i screwed myself over years ago. Im 20 now and i think i dont have any options. I dont think id get accepted into a school like this even with their nearly 80% acceptance rate.

I think you might be surprised what results you get, I have suffered from depression and it has definitely affected my grades in the past but I'm 30 now and the best advice I could give is to just give it a shot. At an art school your portfolio will carry a lot more weight than your GPA. It would be a shame if you didn't take a chance and apply. Good luck!

Hello! I'm hoping of going to ArtCenter, but I'm from Ireland and don't live in America. When you said it would be best to go to community college before going to ArtCenter, would that be the same equivalent of doing A-Levels in UK/Ireland?

I'm not entirely sure about the GEs from UK/Ireland. But I will say that it'll be more beneficial to learn the basics of art before heading into ArtCenter to get the best value!
