    It's true, coming from a poor background means there's no plan b and that we must succeed. i spent a year trying to learn through online sources but felt i wasnt at the level i could be if i had the structure of an educational establishment. so i applied to art center and was accepted. i havent started school yet but sometimes i question my decision because the cost of tuition is so high and it discourages me before ive even tried.

    Your work ethic has really inspired me since way back when I stumbled on your channel; watched, re-watched and even took (lots of) notes from your podcasts, and realized my own love for design and how it's worth taking risks just to continue doing what I'm passionate about. Now, I'm just about to start my freshman year at art uni and this has really strengthened my resolve to make the most of what I've got.
    Thank you, sincerely, from a fan.

    Going through a design program myself right now. Honestly took me two semesters to realize I actually need to start picking shit up and to get focused on my work. Now I'm focused on getting the most out of my program (i'm not that great at what I learn but I enjoy it haha) in hopes to make it somewhere big. It really is about realizing where the faults are and understanding that nobody is going to give you anything unless you start working hard. Keep these kinds of talks going!

    Thanks for sharing Chris. I'm going to have my son watch this as he doesn't always here my voice. ha, and that's ok, I know it takes time and maturing. He is actually my step son and has been a part of my life for the last 3 years. I will do whatever it takes to help guide, mentor and support him. I had a similar experience. I was average in high school, but put it into high gear when I was accepted the second time around to the graphic design & advertising program in Toronto. I worked hard and have been privileged to work in TO, Shanghai, Philly, Vancouver, Hawaii, San Diego and now Bellevue WA. All those places were my choice to live as I've run my own business since 2005. I did not come from money. I get anxiety once in while maybe due to the money thing, but I kill it with confidence so that I can keep supporting a fam of 4, giving back and living a comfortable lifestyle. Speaking of confidence, your video's that I recently discovered has helped with that boost plus guide me in a slightly new direction. Thank you!

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  6 лет назад +2

      so glad to hear Jason. best of luck to you as parenting is probably the most difficult job in the world. you can't "fire" your family, so you just have to support them.

    Fully agree with your State of mind Mr Do. When I was studying architecture, I was also attending courses at the Beaux-arts in Paris to learn physiological morphology (Wich is kind of anatomical courses plus it teaches you how the body structure and muscles react according to poses and movement) the teacher was great, you didn't have to enroll, pay or pass any exam, just drawing and learning. It was a good complement to structure courses at architecture school. So yes, don't narrow your stakes while studying, keep it open. And work!

    Fascinating video. Great to see the passion you have for design. I loved design from a young age, but discovered my passion for the field as I’ve become older. I teach design now and it’s my passion to pass on that passion to my students. I’m just starting to get somewhere with my RUclips channel. It’s great to see you doing so well!

    This came at just the right time...I'm from a pretty wealthy background, my parents have connections, I guess there's things I can fall back on if I fail...but yeah I feel like I am pretty soft and unmotivated I don't know how to change that, don't know how Chris woke up one morning and changed his life

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  6 лет назад +7

      you got get hungry Matt. Realize that you have to make it on your own terms. perhaps you can try an outdoor adventure where connections and wealth won't help you. learn something about the stuff you're truly made of.

    • @itajac80
      @itajac80 6 лет назад +1

      @Matt maybe you could volunteer for a worthy cause. Seen as you don't have to work to pay for tuition, which is great.
      You might learn to be grateful and motivated, after you get to see what others have to go through. It will also help you see a broader view of society and helping another human being is a reward in itself.

    Hey chris, I had a few teachers in the past that would get sick because they would carry the weight of students that failed and couldn't understand how to draw/design. What's that balance of being a great teacher, but not so invested that it's hurting you physically and emotionally?

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  6 лет назад +1

      you have to realize that you don't the power to make someone want do something they don't want to do. worrying about it is counterproductive. i wish i could "make" all of my students great, but all i can do is show them the path. they have to take the steps.

    Hey Cris,
    I got accepted in 3 schools CalArts, Otis, and Ucla all of them in the graphic design department (design media arts UCLA) .
    I choose Otis, because I felt a big connection with the school and the work they're producing seems better. But almost everyone says Otis is not serious, its horrible etc etc. What do you think? did I made the right choice?

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  6 лет назад +1
