    I remember this at-bat well. I was driving home to LA on PCH after visiting my daughter in college up north. I was passing through the Santa Barbara area, and picked up the Dodger broadcast as I got closer to home. Ross Porter was on the radio calling this, and I was in disbelief as the pitch count kept mounting. What excitement when Alex Cora hit that homer to end it - I went nuts in the car shouting out loud to no one and everyone. What a great baseball memory.

    • @jo_verabradleyfan4743
      @jo_verabradleyfan4743 5 лет назад +13

      @Calem LePage Yes, but Roberts hardly spent much time as a Red Sox player. He was picked up at the trade deadline in 2004, he then helped the Sox get to to the World Series with his famous steal in the ALCS, and then the Sox traded him right after the World Series. Cora and Roberts played for 10 combined seasons in LA, only 4 in Boston.

      +JetsMetsfan117 He was brutal from the stretch. He always took his sweet ass time. I had to stop watching games he started in. After every pitch he'd walk to the bottom of the mound, bend over real slow, grab the rosin, play with it for 5 seconds, drop it and slowly walk up the mound, stand behind the rubber, lick his nasty ass fingers, dry them off, take 5 seconds to find his fucking footing in front of the rubber, get himself set, look at the runner on 1st out of the corner of his eye for 3-4 seconds then finally he'd start his motion. I never understood it. I remember this at bat. This might have been the longest at bat in the history of baseball. It didn't help that this fuck cora kept calling time every 3rd pitch.

    My coworker sent me a link to look at this. Dam. What a great link that was. Cora, a guy who was changed for predoira and today is his manager, a guy that Astros didn't want to pay for and then beat them as a manager, a guy who played with Dodgers and then beat them, a guy who played agains a guy who was being watched by a manager when he was a player while hitting a homerun and then a guy who beat Dodgers and that smiley manager at the series. What a story to tell.

    See, if he had known what the pitch was coming was ahead of time, this would have been a shorter at bat.
    He probably thought of that when he was in management in his recent career.

    I hope he's as good a manager as he was in that AB. He was a quality player, hopefully a quality manager. Was a quality bench coach with the WS-winning Astros last year.

    Funny to see former Dodgers that played big roles in Red Sox Championships; Dave Roberts as a player in 2004 and Dave Roberts as a manager in 2018.

    The pitcher, the batter, and Dave Roberts in the dugout would all be members of the Boston Red Sox at some point over the next twelve months.

    Alex Cora homers with the Dodgers against the Cubs after an 18-pitch battle. The Red Sox won the World Series that same year. 14 years later, Alex Cora is the manager of the Red Sox and watched his players hit 4 homers against the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series to win it all for the 4th time since 2004.

    Was at this game and it was one of the most slow-building big moments you'll ever see in sports. A creeping recognition came over the crowd as the foul balls piled up that this was something special, and when he hit the HR it was like a cork popping off a champagne bottle - such a release!

    This is basically 2018 World Series Game 3 in one at bat. The count 2-2 matches the score. Game 3 lasted 18 innings, this lasted 18 pitches. And Alex Cora was the manager

    Can’t forget this group of Dodgers..being born in 89 this was my crew when I finally could understand the game; watching Sheffield, Lo Duca, Gagne, etc was so sick..that’s what big league baseball is..at the Ravine, 17 pitches deep, then bye bye! We’ll see who wins this WS 2018 battle of ex-LA teammates
