Posting a comment here because 1) I don't know if I did on this one before, 2) the algorithm is one heck of a fighter, and 3) this series is amazing and deserves more attention, as do you the creator and the people you work with.
I like how they add more personality to Taurox. At first, he appears to be your standard strong chief archetype. But we see that he has both emotion (his bond with his beast) and intelligence (him killing the BlueSong’s strongest warriors).
As much as I love the Autodale series, it is what introduced me to the wonderful world of Dead Sound after all, I also recognize that this poor soul is pretty much burned out of making those not quite short short films, so it makes me happy to see more work being made by this absolute badass of an animator, and that he's making things that, I presume, make him happy to create and don't feel like a job. That itself is enough for me. Also, pretty colored reptilians. That helps.
Absolutely amazed by Blood for Blood - it was a masterful tale that I loved from the first time I watched it. Creating the music for it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had as a composer, and I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity. Thanks a lot, David!
The difference? Gennedy Tartakovsky's Primal has effing zombies. One could argue the Fell are zombies but they are not. They living, breathing pterodactyls that worship malevolent entities. The horrid look of this cult is because of their worship of said entities. They have taken on the physical characteristics of these demons they worship.
The fact that the BlueSong emperor seems to be infected with the same thing that infected The Decayed and that troop… is concerning, to say the least. Also, their palms are covered, something which no other BlueSong we have seen so far has, aside from them.
Also, I absolutely *adore* how we are at first led to believe the chieftan is a failed simple-minded warrior that has sunk into depression over defeat, when in actuality he's an *incredibly* cunning long-term thinker with an eye for good sabotage that is also the most physically dominating threat in the war. This man is an actual problem.
Very cool! I love the "I'm not locked in here with them, they're locked in here with me" aspect of the story, and I hope we'll see how this progresses and maybe some future stories with the younger warrior and how their tribe adjusts without the chieftain. Also love how the factions have a general vibe of Strength vs Dexterity and how that shows in their weapons, armor, choice in mounts, architecture, and even how the move. Very, very cool.
It’s a strategy I’m surprised I haven’t seen more often! “Oh, so I can just stay here, train up and whittle down their ranks from the inside? Works for me lmao.” Clever bastard, that Taurox.
@@thatkidwiththehoodiesad it only means the blue ones are idiots because even a child would see through torax plan so disappointing his plan only works because the plot makes it so not because of his so-posed intelligence
@@mxb1585 you’re confusing plot holes with character flaws. Taurox says the Blue Song wishes for him to die fair. Presumably executing him outright or leaving him to starve in his cell would be considered dishonourable to them. He’s using their pride and code of honour against them. Besides, the idea of pride being an enemy faction’s undoing is not a new one.
The hand on his stead and companion’s head at the end really got me. That beast was loyal to a fault I’m sure and that loss hurts worse than a lot of things. His “surrender” truly is blood for blood. SOO COOOOL!!!
He didn’t surrender. He was in their by choice, he could’ve left whenever he felt like it.instead he wants to kill their greatest warriors, tearing them apart from the inside.
You had me at "Badass dinosaur warriors", I really love this entire concept. Superb execution as well. I appreciate that the BlueSong have velociraptors, the division isn't so cliche as "carnivores vs herbivores" and that adds some depth to the worldbuilding. I get Conan vibes from Taurox, which is always a good thing. Definitely looking forward to seeing more!
I love how the chieftan is brutish and beastial but by no means stupid and is simply taking the long haul approach to this conflict i absolutely love it!
Holy shit, mad respect for the War Chieftain, as long as BlueSong offers him thier best warriors, we will stay. Sacrificing his honor to be thier plaything while also destroying them from the insides. Insane story writing, perfect animation and the voice acting OOOOOOOOHHH YEEEAH Not to mention i love the designs for different members of the same species, from the antlets and horns of the BlueSong to the tufts of fur and different spike amount on the Tusks!!!
???? The blue dinos are way to proud and bound by honour to be Tau - Tau are way too practical to let something like "honor code" or something to stop them from doing their job. The entire faction theme is efficiency. Red dino is way too cunning, intelligent and emotional to be an Ork. He was closely tied with his companion and morns it's death - unlike the Orks. He fights for something more than fighting alone - he has a purpose - greater than simple fighting. They are nothing alike.
There’s something remarkably, and gruesomely beautiful about this world and the art style (as expected of David) does it complete justice. Can’t wait for the making-of and episode two! I wanna diver deeper into this series!
You're kidding right?! You can't just get away with making a banger of a film like this, and not get more praise!?! That's criminal!!! Man everything you make just gets better and better! So excited for the next two in this series! If I'm being honest though, you should really make this into a full length film. It's so great!!!
Absolutely awesome! I love the strategy behind the Chieftain staying in the arena to eliminate the best fighters so his brothers don’t have to face them.
He makes himself a slave and entertains the enemies and in the process destroys the enemies' best warriors so that his people, his brothers, don't have to confront something like that.
All I can say is that, we need more paleo x fantasy in media these days, Dinotopia is the only one I can think of a paleo-fantasy story and after seeing the first episode I immediately feel in love with every it had to offer and I’m getting HEAVY Primal vibes from this. I do can’t wait to see the other episodes because the world building that is set up, the characters, and the animation especially are really intriguing!
I don't know if it is appropriate to plug personal material, but if it's what you're looking for, my Gallus Galacticus album is fully animated and has strong paleo x fantasy themes especially in the 1st, 6th, and 7th tracks. It's no where near the production quality of this, though. lol
Thank you all for the great suggestions! I’ll be sure to check them out and it’s nice to see Paleo x Fantasy stuff and I really want to see more of them! Keep it going ^^
The hype for this newest film series was real, and boy did it deliver!! Not only is it a fresh take on a pre-historic dinosaur society, but the look of it is amazing and very nice to watch. The world of Sauria already seems so enticing based off of this first film alone, and I can't wait to see it explored more in the other two!
Dear David James Armsby I think you should turn Sauria into a comic/manga series, not only do I think people will love it, I think you will make lots of money selling these books. I recommend creator owned companies like Image Comics or Kodansha Comics, I'd love to read them! Maybe these animated shorts can be promotional materials for the comic series. Love your work man.
YES! At last! And it's living up to the hype SO much! The music, the art, everything really sells the look and feel of the world of Sauria. Fantastic work mate!
Absolutely amazing. I love the softcore worldbuilding on display, the fact the Blue Song's race are omnivorous and the brutal cunning of Taurox, showing he ain't just some savage berserker but a cunning and lethal thing. The Vainglorious Blue Song allow him to play his game against them. I cannot wait to see more of this world.
Really a strong way to start this amazing prehistoric fantasy you've built up! There's also a sense of poetic irony that the Chief's using the Bluesaur's own arrogance and superiority against them them reminding us that sometimes the smartest people aren't always what one thinks.
I like the inversion of the typical heroic fantasy "slave-gladiator-rebel-leader-king", by having chieftan choosing to become an enslaved gladiator for his own twisted vengeance. And I also like that you choose to show the perspective of more scary looking side first, even if we get to see perspective of the empire later, it still works great to subvert the usual assumptions of who is good and bad that popculture has primed us to. I'm enjoying it and await next two chapters.
That’s actually really smart on the part of the cheften. He basically let the blusong think he surrenders and that they now have the only hope for the resistance to win the war,but in reality taurox is the puppet master and now has free access to killing off the strongest and most powerful warriors the enemies have they were probably going to have in the final part of the war, allowing his solder's to win the war easily and only then will taurox and the carno he has made friends with escape and rejoin the rebellion.
Absolutely fantastic start! I love the detail on the war chieftain. I like that you added claws to his three main digits and left the rest bare, and the detail of giving him lips over his main line of teeth, but keeping larger, tusk like teeth bare. An awesome design choice.
I still don’t know if I enjoy the process videos more because of how thoughtfully done they are. Honestly so much love goes into everything on this channel and it’s so easy to tell that’s the case in all the best ways.
Finally got to watching this and DAM it does not disappoint! …Except for how it leaves me wanting more because this feels so much it’s just the prologue to a movie or a series! Epically done! 👏
"Chieftain, we've come to rescue you from this prison ... ... Chieftain ... ? ..." "Their Chancellor should leave me to starve..." Such a great opening dialog. They're not on the same wavelength at all. And the way the rescuer starts to understand is just so awesome. Quality, have been hungry for this kind of atuff my entire life. Glad it's you who contributes 👌
I know they aren’t, but the big dudes (actually, both sides) feel like WHFantasy Lizardmen in the best way. Additionally: seeing Reptiles with mammalian styled horns/antlers will always give me a weird feeling. Great work.
love EVERYTHING about this already; the lore, the world, the designs....we've been needing something like this for ages! Some dark-fantasy series with dinosaurs and such- been begging for something like this for a long time. Really excited to see how this goes!
As a Lizard Folk player in DnD love this movie. It basically shows exactly what for me is the perfect Lizard Folk Lore!!! I'm already looking forward to the next two films!
Holy shit this is amazing. The story, the visuals, the soundtrack, the action, the incredibly detailed lipsyncing, the subtle expressions and movements.... it's all so so good. I love this so much.
It begins! And called it on the BlueSong Empire being the villains of the entire series. Taurox using his imprisonment to his advantage to weaken the BlueSongs from behind enemy lines…seems like the BlueSongs really underestimate the intelligence of everything other than themselves. A good deconstruction of the idea of “evolutionary levels” and the notion of coelurosaurs being smarter than other theropods by default (which was based on outdated ideas about crocodilians that were based on the idea of evolutionary levels).
Coming back here from 'rise of the decayed' - has anyone else noticed that the bluesong chancellor's eyes have that same glow to them? And on top of that... their palms are covered?
I have a feeling she's possessed in some manner or has been in the past. Her more mute persona couples with the eyes and her covered palms sorta hints towards this. It could either be that either she banned magic because she was possessed and understands its severity or one is presently possessed and is being used ta take her people down the route of the Fell in some manner. Perhaps taking the rest of Sauria with them? Banning magic may prevent them from ruining this plan or stop them from finding ways around possession.
this is probably one of if not the best animated films i have ever seen. The quality of animation is what i would expect from an entire studio, the scripting an VA work is all fantastic, and the sheer amount of work you must have put into it! the concept, the storytelling, all of it is fantastic!
Even more than that. He could potentially have a shot at taking out the BlueSong leadership and decapitating their command structure, maybe even at killing whoever the BlueSong Chanceller/empress is.
I love this, everything from the dramatic music/chanting, to the story. One thing I really appreciate is that the trousers of the cheiften has a hole in the back for the tail, I love that kind of attention to detail, and while watching this I learned what I was doing wrong when I draw lizards and reptiles -namely around the edge of the lip and the lower jaw, so thank you as always for the inspiration. This channel is the reason I first started aspiring to be an animator.
I absolutely love the dino at the start, who was locked in a cage. He saw his superior and didn’t make a sound, but when he saw the blue song leader, he basically sneered. I love the small, but cool details.
god each new upload im just blown away i love how these characters are so fleshed out with little dialogue, and i especially love how you flipped the red and blue for the different sides! we always see red as this evil colour and blue as being good, so to see them swapped was amazing to see and offers buts of subtle storytelling i absolutely loved!! can’t wait to see more of this world! :DD
Seeing Dinosaurs in a fantasy setting makes them more fantastical than they already are! I really enjoy watching this one! Looking forward to the next episode!
Going back to this after Episode 3, it's haunting to see the Chancellor of the Bluesong with golden eyes, just like the Decayed. Makes you wonder if there is a connection between the two
This is literally gonna be my new obsession. I've been starved for Dinosaur content for a while so this is absolute gold! The animation is fantastic, and the story is so interesting, the character design are beautiful it makes me wanna buy them as figures. Keep up the great work!! Can't wait to see more!
Amazing job on this. It’s right up there with the Primal series, no doubt about it. Everyone will be eagerly awaiting the next instalments and I hope you decide to do more than just the 3 episodes. It’s a chefs kiss all round 👌
I just came from watching the Decaying and noticed the eyes of the leader of the Bluesong's is also gold. Does that mean the Decay has reached the inner city and is controlling them from the inside?
The *Legend* has returned and blessed us ! The epitome of talent and great works ! Blood for the blood god Skulls for the Skull throne ~ Common Carnatosaur enigma
Absolutely beautiful film. I already love the world that is being created and can't wait to see the making of this setting, film, and the next 2 episodes as well. Feels like a wonderful mix of classical fantasy with new elements as well, and it just makes me want to learn more about this setting you created!
Honestly David makes the best animations. This might not be as surreal as his past works but it Sure is recognisable as his style. He also has really thought provoking quotes.
Interesting detail that the Carno he's fighting alongside isn't his Carno, and that in the flashback when he sees his Carno dead he seems very mournful. This gives me the idea that the bluesong trapped and gave him a Carno because 'that's what those savages ride', regardless of the fact that the Carno looks to be too small for him to ride and completely disregarding any rituals his culture might have about taking Carnos as mounts/companions.

I want a video game in this universe with this exact art style.
Primal doesn't count?
"This is not your prison. This... this is your vengeance!" Such a powerful line.
i absolutely love that therizinosaurus. It's a way to make a dinosaur accurate and cool at the same time.
"Therisinosaurus"
I love the attention to detail. The subtle movements of the nostrils, the slack jaw of the dead carnotaur. All the creature designs look stunning.
The ending just shows how much blind and foolish the birds really are, having a thought that they could rid the chieftain once and for all without realizing why he surrendered in the first place
The fact he's literally destroying them from the inside by letting the king sends his best high rank soldiers to fight him in the arena
The birds claiming to be the evolved ones since they are closer with modern birds while the scaly chieftain and his race though seen as primitive aren't to be look down on.
Also the Blue leader is actually a female.
@@senpie6639It's a female and she's their chancelior.
Well the description might illudes to his death

ALL HAIL TAUROX, CHIEFEST OF ALL KINDRED OF THE TUSK! ALL HAIL TAUROX! ALL HAIL THE TUSKED MESSIAH!
Posting a comment here because 1) I don't know if I did on this one before, 2) the algorithm is one heck of a fighter, and 3) this series is amazing and deserves more attention, as do you the creator and the people you work with.
I am rewatching after episode 3 and seeing the Blue Song leader have "glowing eyes" gives me a whole new perspective on their motivations.
That helps.
My thoughts exactly.
Absolutely amazed by Blood for Blood - it was a masterful tale that I loved from the first time I watched it. Creating the music for it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had as a composer, and I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity. Thanks a lot, David!
This is giving me 'Primal' vibes 🦖 absolute class!
Wait their palms are totally covered! *Your on to something*
@@thatkidwiththehoodieClever boy indeed.
@@berandom2000 it’s like battle strategy and workout routine rolled into one lmao
That beast and he grew up and fought together their entire lives, they were essentially brothers.
This is so much better than anything Hollywood make these days. And it's episode one! Which means there's gonna be more!! Can't wait
I love how the chieftan is brutish and beastial but by no means stupid and is simply taking the long haul approach to this conflict i absolutely love it!
he's not only intelligent but also fatherly. He keeps his brotherhood out of the war and avenges his dead ones, especially his war horse
Yeah, pretty ironic and I never meant to vote a dislike so I rectified it with a like
Holy shit, mad respect for the War Chieftain, as long as BlueSong offers him thier best warriors, we will stay. Sacrificing his honor to be thier plaything while also destroying them from the insides.
Insane story writing, perfect animation and the voice acting OOOOOOOOHHH YEEEAH
Not to mention i love the designs for different members of the same species, from the antlets and horns of the BlueSong to the tufts of fur and different spike amount on the Tusks!!!

This is literally the dinosaur version of the Tau & the Orks of "Warhammer 40k"! I love it!
Seraphon would like a word
Also Taurox, the Brass Bull are one of Beastmen leaders
For legal purposes, this has absolutely nothing to do with warhammer in any way
o.o
You'd be hyped to learn about the Lizardmen of Warhammer!

Loved this ❤
Love from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
This film does not get the attention that really deserves, i swear for god this is a masterpiece.
Have you heard of the Planegea campaign setting for 5e D&D? Look it up, you may like it!
I don't know if it is appropriate to plug personal material, but if it's what you're looking for, my Gallus Galacticus album is fully animated and has strong paleo x fantasy themes especially in the 1st, 6th, and 7th tracks. It's no where near the production quality of this, though. lol
have you read west of eden its the best ive seen
Couldn't agree more!
As a fantasy nerd myself, I feel like the genre's been shafted in 2023
Thank you all for the great suggestions!

Dear David James Armsby
I think you should turn Sauria into a comic/manga series, not only do I think people will love it, I think you will make lots of money selling these books. I recommend creator owned companies like Image Comics or Kodansha Comics, I'd love to read them! Maybe these animated shorts can be promotional materials for the comic series.
Love your work man.
5:01 i like how he becomes so calm so fast
It’s just so incredible how much effort something like this takes, really amazing work!
YES!
Having just watched the third episode, the Chancellor's blank, glowing eyes take on a whole new meaning.
Man this should really be a Netflix series or something! CUS THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!
Really a strong way to start this amazing prehistoric fantasy you've built up! There's also a sense of poetic irony that the Chief's using the Bluesaur's own arrogance and superiority against them them reminding us that sometimes the smartest people aren't always what one thinks.
But bluesongs killed him
@@ctenophoractenophoraThey did not.
Not yet they have. But he's going to make sure he takes as many as to pay for his Carnotaur's death as he can.
I'm enjoying it and await next two chapters.
we've waited so long, and now here it is A MASTERPIECE
That’s actually really smart on the part of the cheften. He basically let the blusong think he surrenders and that they now have the only hope for the resistance to win the war,but in reality taurox is the puppet master and now has free access to killing off the strongest and most powerful warriors the enemies have they were probably going to have in the final part of the war, allowing his solder's to win the war easily and only then will taurox and the carno he has made friends with escape and rejoin the rebellion.
Chieftain
Mr. Armsby, let it be known that you are one of the best animators I have ever seen.
Absolutely fantastic start! I love the detail on the war chieftain. I like that you added claws to his three main digits and left the rest bare, and the detail of giving him lips over his main line of teeth, but keeping larger, tusk like teeth bare. An awesome design choice.
This is *amazingly* well made. I can’t wait to see behind the scenes.
I still don’t know if I enjoy the process videos more because of how thoughtfully done they are. Honestly so much love goes into everything on this channel and it’s so easy to tell that’s the case in all the best ways.

The art direction of the project is immaculate, I swear every project Deadsound produces by the saurian gods.
Technically professional, richly imagined, great stuff !
Finally got to watching this and DAM it does not disappoint!
…Except for how it leaves me wanting more because this feels so much it’s just the prologue to a movie or a series!
Epically done! 👏
"Chieftain, we've come to rescue you from this prison ...
... Chieftain ... ? ..."
"Their Chancellor should leave me to starve..."
Such a great opening dialog. They're not on the same wavelength at all. And the way the rescuer starts to understand is just so awesome. Quality, have been hungry for this kind of atuff my entire life. Glad it's you who contributes 👌
Its a clash of completely different cultures
This is gorgeous! The lip syncing is wonderful. Can't wait to see the behind the scenes, and the rest of the series!
That was honestly so epic. I can't wait to see where this goes. So original.
Wow. The storyline is epic. Absolutely well thought off and strategic. Can’t wait for the other two parts. Big love and all the best.
I know they aren’t, but the big dudes (actually, both sides) feel like WHFantasy Lizardmen in the best way.
Additionally: seeing Reptiles with mammalian styled horns/antlers will always give me a weird feeling.

love EVERYTHING about this already; the lore, the world, the designs....we've been needing something like this for ages! Some dark-fantasy series with dinosaurs and such- been begging for something like this for a long time.
Really excited to see how this goes!
He doesn’t even need a Oscar at this point he needs more views and subscribers
This is clearly one of the best short films you have ever created! This is amazing!
This the the best animation i have ever seen with good animation, story, characters and voice acting you need to create more of this masterpice
Love the choice of Carnotaurus, very underrated compared to the "classics".
That is incredibly cool ! and just the quality!!! Just crazy
Coming back here from 'rise of the decayed' - has anyone else noticed that the bluesong chancellor's eyes have that same glow to them? And on top of that... their palms are covered?
taurox also has shining eyes, albeit blue ones
i suppose they might be ''touched'' by other elder gods
Yeah i got the same feeling like he could be a spy
That’s actually really smart. He basically has free access to culling off the strongest warriors the enemies have
Even more than that. He could potentially have a shot at taking out the BlueSong leadership and decapitating their command structure, maybe even at killing whoever the BlueSong Chanceller/empress is.
Sad the Blue ones are idiots though they seem to be no threat
I love this, everything from the dramatic music/chanting, to the story.
One thing I really appreciate is that the trousers of the cheiften has a hole in the back for the tail, I love that kind of attention to detail, and while watching this I learned what I was doing wrong when I draw lizards and reptiles -namely around the edge of the lip and the lower jaw, so thank you as always for the inspiration.
This channel is the reason I first started aspiring to be an animator.
Nope. Unacceptable.
Do more.
Please. These are awesome.
I absolutely love the dino at the start, who was locked in a cage. He saw his superior and didn’t make a sound, but when he saw the blue song leader, he basically sneered. I love the small, but cool details.
1:05 knowing what we do of the Fell, those eyes bode an ill omen...
god each new upload im just blown away
i love how these characters are so fleshed out with little dialogue, and i especially love how you flipped the red and blue for the different sides! we always see red as this evil colour and blue as being good, so to see them swapped was amazing to see and offers buts of subtle storytelling i absolutely loved!!
can’t wait to see more of this world! :DD
Seeing Dinosaurs in a fantasy setting makes them more fantastical than they already are! I really enjoy watching this one! Looking forward to the next episode!
This show has so much potential. I was very sad that the dinosaur series ended but this right here is a great replacement
Man I wonder if I'm reaching but those eyes just made me think of the fell eyes now too. On the chancellor.
Going back to this after Episode 3, it's haunting to see the Chancellor of the Bluesong with golden eyes, just like the Decayed. Makes you wonder if there is a connection between the two
The character design in this is phenomenal.
This is literally gonna be my new obsession. I've been starved for Dinosaur content for a while so this is absolute gold!
The animation is fantastic, and the story is so interesting, the character design are beautiful it makes me wanna buy them as figures. Keep up the great work!! Can't wait to see more!
Your work never ceases to amaze me! Animators like you are the reason I want to expand my artistry and talents!
At this point we might need a BlueSong-Kindred team up to overthrow the BlueSong Chancellor and fight the Fell…
THIS. These are the kinds of stories RUclips was MADE for. Keep up the work, I'd like to see where this story goes.
I honestly have no word to describe how gorgeous this is other than absolute masterpiece!
This is so awesome! The look, the story, the music, the voices - absolutely knocking it out the park. Can't wait for the next episode!
I'VE WAITED SO LONG, THIS IS ALREADY SO AMAZING ❤❤❤❤❤
Glad to see this finally come out! Glad you didn't burn yourself out to make it considering the last short film.
This is dope. Barbarian dinosaurs is dope enough, but you also made it so atmospheric. Just splendid work.
