Hi all, hi @Ruth! First thank you so much for another great video. Apps are fantastic. I use Apps for all Consumers, but there's always opportunities to improve everything (I think)... So, regarding to this Microsoft needs (at least I think so, hahahah) to allow "multiple apps from same workspace"! Why? Because sometimes we may need to have one WorkSpace with multiple reports, but not necessary all these reports for the same Consumers. When you give access to a specific App, everything under the WS attached to this App will be available for all Consumers, no matter if any Consumer has or has not access to a specific report. This is not good because force us to create more and more WSs and sometimes this is not necessary. Another issue / challenge related or close to this App stuffs is to be possible to "subscribe others to emails for reports or dashboards AND APPs that have RLS". For all here, please help voting as follows: >>> Create multiple apps from same workspace: ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19440916-create-multiple-apps-from-same-workspace >>> Subscribe others to emails for reports or dashboards that have RLS: ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/34449625-subscribe-others-to-emails-for-reports-or-dashboar
@Ruth, thanks for the video. Still one of the most up-to-date and informative videos on YT on the subject! Helped my team decide to go all in on apps as our primary sharing method. Btw, what application do you use for annotating the screen like that?
Thank you for the video. This was exactly what I was looking for. I was quite confused on why Apps existed in the first place, but you explained it very nicely. Now I just need to explain to my report consumers why we need to switch from Workspaces to Apps. :)
As usual, brilliant. I’ve been using Apps for long and I fully agree with you except one point. I do prefer “old” Apps rather new ones. I use panels as a “navigation tree” to reach the report user needs, and it works. Thanks for your help. Your videos make our lives easier.
Curbal No, I haven’t. We are lucky they still allow to keep using the “old fashion “ apps. One tip, in case it may help somebody. Using panels with images make this “navigation tree” much more attractive. I use images that simulate 3D buttons ....
@@nachomiranda5151 when you say "... Using panels with images make this “navigation tree”...", where can we set this? You mean in App > Setup session where we can put a logo or in the App > Navigation session? Sorry, I didn't get it.
Jimmy , no , I did not. I meant adding images as tiles into the dashboard. Sorry I didn’t explain myself What I do is to set up dashboards just with “nice” images that “guide” the user to find the report they are looking for. Just imagine you have reports for , let’s say 20 countries on 5 continents and the user only needs to find the country he/she needs at that time (I know you can build all together and select inside the report, it is just an example) First dashboard at the App will have 5 “nice” images (one per continent) If user select, let’s say Europe, a new dashboard will show up, with one image per European country you have reports to offer. When user select the country, a new dashboard with one nice image per report on that country that is available.... Just as an example. Does it make sense? Best regards,
Totally agree. I would create dev and test work spaces (eg: lineAreaName-Dev and lineAreaName-Test then publish from test to an app for business users. Perhaps even have a workspace with lineAreaName-prod to use as a backup of App area. Love the app store feedback and rating / usage info idea! Good info for developers and consumers.
Hi Ruth I wanted to know, what are the capabilities of the end-users consuming reports from an app? I mean, can they themselves set alerts, pin tiles to a dashboard and things like these? Thank you.
Thanks @Ruth, Thanks again for the great video. I’m using the exact same way. I’m creating APPs from my workspaces and allowing consumers to use APPs. I have large audience hence I use premium capacity and uses Azure AD security groups to provide access. When publishing as an APP I use the option to install the APP automatically so my consumers don’t require to find the APP. Cheers Chamila
Hi All Hi @Ruth , I am having issues in power BI We have created a power bi report and have given viewer role to the users in workspace and also have given them app(build) access to them on dataset. We are using June 2019 version. The issue is when ever I update the dataset with any changes in the report the end users who have have created there own reports using this very workspace are not able to load those reports. Please it would be great if you helped out on this. Or if you make a video on how end users(free and pro) should be given access to datasets. Akshay

That is why an app-store experience would benefit users in my opinion.
You need to manage access in power bi service with user groups or RLS.
