I studied pure maths and the level of statistical illiteracy in so so many of these papers is staggering.
I have a degree in engineering and I'm angry that these papers are put together in a way with an intent to deceive. It's a violation of ethics to put together papers intentionally this bad.

I follow 5 young people with Cancer on RUclips. Despite all the hyped game changers one died two months ago, another is days away from dying, another has been sent home to get things in order and the other two are floating without hope. I have zero faith left in cancer treatments and the field of oncology.
Vijay’s huge strength is that he is so well trained in study design and it’s a great idea to educate others on this topic

Am I the only one who watches and/or listens to all of Dr. Prasad's stuff who is not in the medical field but who instead chooses to keep up on cancer science because they expect they or someone in their family will inevitable someday be diagnosed with cancer?

It also helps me understand what good research is, and what problems bad research has.
Well bless your heart, I love hearin' from smart folks. Medical science is a lifesaver, I tell ya what. Can't think of a better way to use one's intelligence than to heal the sick and help people live longer, healthier lives. Now, I know what you're thinkin': 'What about all the other smart folks who are workin' on things like artificial intelligence and self-drivin' cars?' And I say to you, that's all well and good, but it don't mean I gotta be interested in it. I'm a simple man, and I like to keep things simple. So if you're talkin' to me about medicine, I'm all ears. But if you're talkin' to me about robots and stuff, I'm gonna go take a nap.
I volunteer in EMS. I follow all the stuff not because I care about oncology specifically, but because it helps me better understand the limitations of other research papers that I come across which are relevant.
I came for the COVID policy and devubking videos... but I found that I love the super interesting lectures!
As someone in medical imaging field, mammograms and general X rays, I love listening to his lectures. I enjoy talking to my patients and the doctors about the treatments. But I also really appreciate the hematology side of the hem/oncology as I’m a patient for hematology. Thanks Dr VP.
I hope some day, you can make a video about the future of cancer treatment. What can be done to get less toxicity and higher survival rates?

If it comes from Harvard (nutrition) I am always immediately sceptical.
4 cups of coffee or more equates to very few soft drinks, juices, milks, or alcoholic drinks. You could probably show similar results with people who drink 4 or more glasses of water a day.
And now EV-302 is published in NEJM. Only 30,2 % in the control arm received Avelumab-maintenance. Only 13,6 % with progressive disease, so avelumab use should have been much higher. No mention of how many patients received post protocol EV neither in the manuscript or in The supplementary.

My gastroenterologist said coffee is good for colon health but French Roast coffee can contribute to cancer and to not drink it.
Did they base that on papers similar to the one he broke down today? 😉

There are tons of people that love theories cause they don't trust big pharma. So they ask about coffee, you laugh, they decide you're evil, and run to a coffee shop, then learn how to do enemas 😂
As someone recently diagnosed with cancer, watching these lectures has been very helpful in trying to understand where treatments I am getting are on a scale of helpful to hail mary. I would love to hear your detailed thoughts on the recent FDA approval of histotripsy for liver cancer.

I was hoping you’d say something about EV Pembro. I looked a the press release, but couldn’t find any detailed information. Good to know you had the same questions.
My mother was treated for uterine sarcoma at the University of Kentucky. After surgery the oncologist told her she would soon begin chemotherapy. I finally tracked him down and asked him for the evidence to support the chemo regime. He responded, “There is one statistically insignificant study of five people.” Of course he didn’t tell her that the incredibly painful chemo was of no proven value. I’d bet he was using her in a trial without consent.
I had a doctor once that was so great. Old Asian dude, must have been practicing for ages. Asked something, he didn't know. Left the room and came back with a book (before smartphones) with the page turned said yes and handed it to me instead of just looking at me like I was crazy and shooing me away. He even explained some of the issues with their facility and equipment. Regular guy not a narcissist.
My new old white lady doctor did the same thing, haha. It was great.
I’m trying to estimate when the trendy “narcissist” diagnosis will run out of steam. The great thing about psychiatry is that anyone can practice since you can’t prove any diagnosis right or wrong. It belongs with homeopathy and chiropractic.
Most people labeled “narcissistic” are more confident and successful than the people doing the labeling. It’s a take-down.
Decades ago Tom Szasz defined it thusly:
“Narcissist: psychoanalytic term for the person who loves himself more than his analyst; considered to be the manifestation of a dire mental disease whose successful treatment depends on the patient learning to love the analyst more and himself less.”
