2 years ago and i stick with corona and left vray now after this update corona 7 i back to vray because all my old files and projects change to physical material i have a lot of problems now in my work
Please fix the Converter problem, which automatically convert almost everything to metal materials. I had to switch back to vers 6 because of this annoying problem!
still prefer the legacy material, can't believe you all changed the converter to switch all materials to physicalbasedmtl instead of legacy. switching back to vray is an issue now
Do please post your feedback over on the forum thread dedicated to the converter, just to make sure devs see your thoughts (they can't monitor RUclips comments) and we would like to hear from everyone about how the converter can be improved - forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=33253.0 Thanks! Tom
Thanks for this update. When I use the corona converter in Corona 7, to convert Vray Mtl to Corona Mtl, it now sometimes makes the Mtl a Metal, even though it is not a Metal. whats up with that?
Hi! This is because the materials being converted from were not set up in a physically plausible way, so the converter has to guess what to keep, lose, and change to turn it into a physically plausible material. You can find discussion on this in the dedicated converter thread on the forums - forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=33253. We plan on revisiting the converter in Corona 8 based on user feedback in that thread. Thanks! Tom
Hi, thank you for these tutorials. Can you make tutorial about displacement maps and how to properly use it to get realistic results? Whenever I use displacement map, somehow model looks flat.
We can consider this, ty! However it should be as simple as plugging a map into the Displacement slot of the material, then adjusting the Min and Max levels to control the strength of the effect. If that is not working for you, the quickest solution would be to post over on the forums, sharing an example render of the result, and either a screengrab of the material or the scene, then our support team and the community can help out right away :) forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?board=29.0 - hope this helps! Tom
The converter does a terrible job of converting VRay to Corona Physical (constantly confusing metalness, almost always renders differently...). I saw a comment below that mentioned this. And I understand the difficulty of converting "physically implausible" materials. But some of those "physically implausible" materials look awesome and realistic enough. Why wouldn't you leave an option in the Converter to convert to LegacyMtl? It would fix those issues.
Hi! You can post feedback on the converter on a dedicated thread on our forums (where developers will see it) - forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=33253.0 We'll be taking a look at the converter to see what improvements can be made for Corona 8 (using that thread as a source of things that could be handy for users). Thanks! Tom
Just to make sure we answer you on this video as well - The untextured base model is available at data.corona-renderer.com/download/scenes/violin_charles_IX_base_modern.rar - you will have to make your own textures though. Nejc
Sorry you are not a fan of the new Physical Material for this particular material set up - on the plus side, that is why we still have the Legacy Material in there, for anyone who prefers it in certain circumstances! Thanks for the feedback! Tom
@@ChaosCorona Hi! In this particular example I like more legacy material, but I believe that physical material is better in other scenarious, sorry If I was a little bit harsh. I love Corona, hopefully see you soon in Blender :) That would be really awesome
Nothing came across as harsh, but ty for the extra thoughts on the physical material :) On the Blender question, sorry for the bad news, but there are no plans at the moment to port Corona to anything other than the existing two applications :( Hope this is not too disappointing. Thanks! Tom
Please add the secondary IOR controller, it's the only reason I have to stick to legacy materials. Sometimes you want fewer reflections and more refractions for example..
Sorry, but as explained in the video, this is not physically realistic, materials do only have one IOR. Controls for this can be done by adding a Clearcoat for separate control over reflections (which does accurately mimic reality). For further discussion, best to head over to the forums, forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php - thanks! Tom
@@ChaosCorona We understand it's physically accurate, but regardless, sometimes clients ask for things that aren't physically accurate :D. Nice to have the robustness to accommodate such tasks. But, I understand the logic in simplifying too. Either way, thanks for the updates and continued work.
@@slowgojoe Thank you for the kind words, and also the feedback! I'd like to ask you share the feedback on the forums, there's a dedicated thread about the Physical Material (and that's where developers will see and become aware of requests, questions etc. so we can see if improvements can be made). Head over to forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=31802.0 if you have the time to repost there, as we welcome hearing all feedback. Thanks! Tom
Can't wait for more on this series, please update diligently for a newbie like me!!!
We appreciate it, thank you for the excitement! :) Nejc

I see corona renderer. Instant Like!
Thank you for the kind words!
OMG ! I cant believe!! Thank you so much ! I love you guys.
Most welcome! We should have around one part a week over the next month or two, to build up into a deep dive into the Physical Material! Tom

@@ChaosCorona thank you, I will try with forum, since I already incorporated described workflow.

hi guys, where can I get this violin model?
(it's just so beautiful)

3:20 Legacy material looks better here in my opinion. The new Physical shader really resembles the Principled BSDF in Cycles, which is a shame
