Welcome to this Poco F1 Rooting Video Tutorial.
In the last months Xiaomi has changed a little the process for unlocking the bootloader. I have put together the steps as well as links to the needed files.
If you carefully follow the instructions, you will be able to root it quite quickly.
Most of these procedures work the same way for many Xiaomi devices, however some of the files (like recovery) may be different. Be careful and do the reading first!
PART 1: UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER: 0:33 - this may void your warranty
- BACKUP!
- visit the following URL and follow the steps: en.miui.com/un...
- download mi FLash tool and initiate the Bootloader unlock procedure. Likely there is going to be some waiting time
- Once the waiting time is over - finish the unlock procedure. The phone will be reset to factory defaults.
* if you are unable to unlock the bootloader, you may have to first enable Developer Options (tap 7 times on the MIUI build version in Settings) and enable the OEM UNLOCK feature.
PART 2: ROOTING and BOOTING TO TWRP 2:04
- download the Poco F1 TWRP from here: www.androidfil...
- download magisk .zip from here: forum.xda-deve... and copy it to the phone
- enable Developer Options - tap 7 times on the MIUI build version in Settings
- enable USB debugging from developer options
- download Minimal ADB and Fastboot and install on MAC or PC forum.xda-deve...
- copy the Poco F1 TWRP .img recovery to the installation folder of Minimal ADB and Fastboot. Optionally rename it to pocorecovery.img
- connect the phone, and make sure to accept the USB devugging prompt
- type "adb reboot bootloader"
- once you see the phone being in Fastboot - type "fastboot boot pocorecovery.img"
- after TWRP is running - locate the magisk.zip file and install it
PART 3: Backup and Custom ROMs - 5:52
- to perform a Nandroid Backup just use the backup option in TWRP.
- to install a custom ROM - you will have to perform a Factory reset and wipe Dalvik. After that install the ROM .zip.
Some custom ROMs may have slightly different installation process - refer to the specific instructions included with the ROM.

rooting won't void the warranty, but any problems caused by the root modules which may brick your phone will not be covered by warranty.

Yes, it will. Make a backup.
Update MIUI (using system update) while still keeping/having TWRP possible? Phone is rooted too
you have not overwrite TWRP, only load it on RAM original bootloader. I did this way (with magisk) and OTA comes easily, just have to repatch magisk. Step by step: Start phone in fastboot (volume down + power); on command prompt open as admin, type: fastboot boot TWRPRECOVERYIMAGE.img; install whatever you want using TWRP without overwriting it.
No such file. ??? When lodging pocorecovery.img
then you are using the wrong filename or the file is not placed in the correct folder.

Yeah. If you install another rom and soft brick the phone. They take 100 Indian rupees and install miui10 and your warranty is intact

poco f1 needs boot, system image, vendor image and data when making nandroid backup.. not system, boot and data like most phones!!!! else the backup will restore but most likely will not boot!!

Try to keep it cooler. If it has a case - remove it and check if that will help.

Means that the driver is not there. Try to search for some generic driver, or check the xda threads for all-in one tool that could push the driver installation.

what happens if you type "fastboot devices"? If it is the same response - then you need to check the fastboot drivers - it just says that there is no device connected.
I just bought my poco f1 and i wanna play fortnite on 60 fps but if i root my phone it will affect the warranty......I am sure snapdragon 845 is capable to run fortnite on 60 FPS do u think epic will ever rollout 60 fps for poco f1?
yes snpdragon 845can run many big shot tittles at 60 fps but Epic Games decided to be an exclusive lover and capped this beast at 30 , there are only like 4-5 devices that supported fortnite 60 fps

Better use stable version.
Other sites say that before flashing Magisk you have to flash DFE (Disable Force Encryption) and Format Data. Do I have to or not?

I had problems disabling the stock recovery. After fastboot into recovery I flash the disabler yet the phone still would go back to stock recovery. Had to flash rom. Then flash root then run Magisk root app. Run twrp app, grant root permission & flash twrp.img threw twrp app to get rid of stock recovery and get custom

Hi Chan Chan, sure! You will receive the updates, however it will download the full rom, instead of just the update.zip.

No - when unlocking the bootloader it is very likely that a factory reset will happen.

Stock firmware + 4K EIS mode added to the magisk modules - this is the main reason I decided to root the phone.
Is there going to be any issue if I apply OTA update while having magisk installed? Sould I uninstall magisk before updating?
I have the stock recovery installed.
It is fine to apply OTAs - it will not apply the small OTA - you will be asked to download the full one. And then the update will run fine.
Does this work even new updates? Cuz got the Android10 with Poco.
Haven't tried that with Android 10 - but there's no reason not to work.
Do we get OTA updates after this and if yes do we lose data if updated from " select package " option?
Yes, we get OTA, and we don't lose data. Of course keeping a backup is always a good idea.

Then how come whenever I tried to add my xiaomi account to unlock boot loader, it keep telling me to "insert simcard"

i already flashed the magisk.zip but after checking the status of my device on root checker it says "root not properly installed" and then i opened fk kernel manager it says "your device must be rooted" but then again after opening ex kernel manager it works fine. i dont know which one should i trust and i dont know if my device rooted or not.
That's weird. |You may try with a newer Magisk version - take the latest one.

You can use the embedded in the MIUO backup, and additionally copy all your files just in case.

Follow the regular procedure from the Android itself. Or you can do that from the recovery option.
fastboot boot pocorecovery doesn't find my img file.. it's is in the installation folder of Minimal adb :S

You can try a newer adb version. It will work with normal ADB version too.

I made a backup before install pixel experience ROM. But while i tried to recover the backup it showed Error 205. And then i was forced to install new stock ROM file and install it again. I still have the backup file. Will that work if i do something?
If it is Nandroid Backup - you may try to keep it and to recover it with another version of TWRP. Weird that it gives this error...

ADB recognizes my device when it is in on and it shows the device code. But when i check after going to fastboot it says List of devices attached but not showing any device
Sounds like a driver problem. Try to reconnect the phone - Windows may be able to install the drivers then.

Could be that your storage is full, or that you are using a non-working recovery.
I keep getting the "error: cannot load 'recovery.img': No such file or directory" error. How can I fix that?
make sure that you are pointing to the file. Either it has a different name, or it is not in the directory where the command line is pointing to.
rename the .img file just "abcd" donot rename it to "abcd.img" and enter the command "fastboot boot abcd.img"
in Rooting Part after my Device started , TWRP app was running and it was asking for a password idk what password , i clicked the "back" button and mistakenly pressed "keep read data only" now when i click install button in TWRP there's nothing in my internal storage so i could choose Magisk.zip , can anyone help me??
Yeah, restart and try again - usually helps. The password should be your Android password.

The password should be the one for unlocking your phone; If that doesn't work - temporarily disable the password or unlock feature and try again.

Most likely you have set the default to be "denying" - check the Magisk Manager settings. Check the XDA forums for more information about magisk.

@@charbel6793 ye I just started the process on an old laptop (ryzen for some reason doesn't work) and it was done within one minute, prior to that (like a month before rooting) I requested for root within miui in developer options.
Is there an app I could just install like king root?
Not sure if KingRoot will work. Never been a fan of that method...

there is a password needed in decryption of twrp what to do with that

@@TechMishka when im using the Mi unlock tool.. have tried it a few months back already but i always get stuck at 50% and it gives me that error that it cant find my device... my phone also isnt shown under my "devices and drivers" tab when i look into my pc

If you want to root the phone - then yes; If you simply need unlocked bootloader - it is not needed

I launched TWRP throught adb and wiped all what needed and i pressed "Reboot to recovery" but it rebooted to stock recovery! I was so confused and afraid that my phone is briked. I tried to launch the phone and it was bootlooping. Then i decided to enter fastboot (while it bootloops). I launched twrp throught pc and installed the rom (all works fine and there weren't any errors)
Why custom recovery didn't installed permanently? After rebooting to recovery again - launches stock.( my english is bad :3)
@@bsky6525 Your english is great - no worries about that.
There is a command which can flash the TWRP permanently. Sometimes the flashing procedure won't work, and you may use an alternative app to do that (there used to be one for android, which name I forgot);
If you don't need to use TWRP too often - staying at the stock one is fine - and you can run the TWRP at any time via the PC.
Also - some software updates may bring back the stock recovery.

In rooting part after entering the cmd "fastboot boot pocorecovery.img" my phone starts TWRP app but it asks for a password to Decrypt Data , Can anyone PLEASE HELP?? what's the god damn password
don't worry, either try this password: "default_password" without the quotes, or just hit cancel and you'll be back on the proper screen

Better go to a professional repair shop and ask for help. There might be a way, but it's going to be quite complicated...
Unlocking the Bootloader does not void warranty this was a ruling in UK/EU so even if retailer or manufacture tries to claim it does this is not true.
I have issue with TWRP I followed your steps but when it loads up the touchscreen doesn't work I even waited but then the screen turns of and still doesn't work.
Nic, try another TWRP version - might be a driver incompatibility with a specific hardware revision.
