- The purpose of me requesting they react to songs like these is just to expose them to music they may or may not have heard before, to expand their horizons and to sate my curiosity over whether they will like them or not.
I am responsible for the song choices, what I choose to request so if want to complain about that then that's fair game but if want to complain about Ashtyn or Jon's reaction just remember this is not their channel and by proxy it is very unlikely they will read your comments unless I personally pass the message on next time I speak to them...however I have zero interest in passing on any vindictive, rude or spiteful comments.
They do these for me and I just post many of them here in case other people might also be curious about what they think of these songs too after they send me the videos and I have watched them myself. As mentioned this is not their channel, if you wish to visit their channel it can be found listed below.

"Self Control" was by Italian singer Raf (Raffaele Riefoli), released in 1984. It was written by Giancarlo Bigazzi, Steve Piccolo and Raf. The song was covered the same year by American singer Laura Branigan which happens to be the version most people know. Sandra's "Maria Magdalena" has similar chorus lyrics to Self Control but they are not the same, it's possible was just inspired by Self Control but that would just be an assumption by me.
I think that chorus sounded very similar in that part. Overall this song is a bit more laid back and mellower than Self Control. I also liked that original version of Self Control you referred to.
if you think about it Self Control and Maria Magdalena are very smaller in meaning so the inspiration is definitely their over the years I thought I was the only one who picked up on that but I'm very glad I'm not the only one that noticed that

Maria Magdalena's chorus is a straight rip-off of "Self Control" by 'Raf' (which was also covered by Laura Branigan) which came out the year before. 'Maria Magdalena' even uses the same words during the melodic part that was copied from 'Self Control'...

Maria Magdalena has nothing to do with Self control at all guys. SANDRA made her own production and career. As a fan from all times its the first time I heard this comparation. Maria Magadalena was n 1 in Europe, Latino America, Asia and South Africa.
Many songs back time could sound similar because of synthesisers and way of singing... but Sandra has her own career and personality and there has never been need to copy anyone
Come on, Cretu made production and career of Sandra, she is 100% Cretu's project.

"María Magdalena" is one of the great songs of the 80s ... It crossed borders, it was a world number one hit and it is also one of the great music symbols of that era.

Of course, tastes are different. But apart from the text line "Creature of the Night", "Maria Magdalena" has nothing to do with "Self Control". Seriously, you should take an example from other reaction videos. That can also be done more benevolently and less destructively. What should a fan of Sandra enjoy about this video?

I dont see Jons point that its a rip off of self control at all..I dont at all get that vibe...If they sounded abit similar it probably was by coincidence..there are so many songs out there,its bound to happen that a part of one is abit similar to something else.I didnt see any copying and ripping of here.

It doesn't sound like Self Control at all. It's only his words that he sings...that sound similar. And the guy you see singing the lyrics in the video, isn't actually the guy who sings this part.
First: both are to boring. This song was in 26 countries top 1. Second: you dont understand nothing of music. Serch another job.

Sandra was a big Star and not only with Maria Magdalena.
These days in the 80s many songs could sound a bit similar but definately nothing to copy to Self control.

What's funny is Jon says this song reminds him of Self Control, and on the Self Control reaction, he said that song reminded him of Pocahontas, lol.

Maria Magdalena has no similarities with Self Control. Yes, the lyrics are somewhat similar at one sentence of the whole song but calling this a plagiarism is insane.

Sandra was born in Germany and is half german, half french, but she lives on the spanish island of Ibiza. And dude, your girl is right. She is very smart and tolerant. I like her opinion! Get some from it ;-)
"Creature of the night" is too commonly a used frase for it to be sample of Self Control. There are common factors in this type of music, a distinct 80s sound you can find in lots of music of the time. Michael Cretu's earlier album Legionnäres has a lot of these elements already, and is before Laura Brannigans Self Control. I think this was just part of the music picture at the time. It's interesting to track influences and develpment of music though, but can be hard to pin point an exact origin. Self Control was in 1984 a major hit in Europe too, I would not rule out any inspiration from the hit. I don't know how much Sandra was played on the radion in the US, but her albums with Michael Cretu were at the top of the hit lists all over Europe, even Japan.
I love the song and thought it was great the first time I heard it. I'm glad you both gave this one a listen. The singer, Sandra, is German. The song is from 1985. At the time, she was married to the guy in the video, Michael Cretu, who went on to found Enigma. I think this song sounds nothing like "Self Control". :)

If it was just a similar melody in that chorus that could be mere co-incidence, but to also use the exact same phrase is more suspicious, especially since they were made only a year apart from one another.

I think Jon got abit too much hanged up on this alleged similarity with self control,the other song they did a reaction on. I myself didnt feel it was very similar,and even if it had been,well,why not just relax a little, its a good song,a monster hit,let us viewers enjoy it .I like Jons reactions in general, he has a good sense of humour and he can do them well overall,no doubt,but when it comes to music reactions,I think I prefer Ashtyns,she is more laid back with these ones.

Nice that also Sandra finds attention with you. However, I would like to know what goal you pursue with your videos here on RUclips? You know neither the singer, nor the songwriter ... The names Cretu, Hall or Kah are foreign to you and also the success behind Sandra and Michael has probably escaped you. The male voice you hear ist from Hubert Kah and Steve Hall (heartbeats) does lips singing in the video. Maybe you could prepare yourself a little better in the future. I might even continue to watch your videos.
I cannot speak to their goals but my goal is to expose them to stuff they may not have heard before, broaden their musical horizons or in some cases I'm just curious what they think about certain songs even if I believe they 'might' have heard it before due to how popular some songs are. That's why I request they listen to all these songs.
They are reactions not reviews so in depth analysis of each song wasn't either my motive or expectation when requesting these, real reactions include good and bad reactions, sometimes boring and sometimes interesting ones but they are true reactions to what they are seeing and hearing (often for the first time). Ashtyn and Jon never claimed to be experts on the subject and they are a little 'musically' ignorant because they haven't been exposed to as much music as some others.
Ultimately I want to know whether they like the songs and artists or not especially the ones they haven't been exposed to before. Nothing more and nothing less. They do these videos for me personally (not just the ones you see here but other reactions they did for me too which haven't uploaded), I decided that after I watched them I would post them on here just in case anyone else might be interested in watching them. I make zero money from doing so, I just share them because I've already watched them and thought maybe other people would also like to see them.

The guy in the video is not the actual singer. Just lip syncing. The singer is actually Hubert Kemmler. He had a band called Hubert Kah. Produced by the same guy, Michael Cretu.

The guy she likes doing the background vocals is Hubert Kemmler aka from the band called Hubert Kah. The guy in the video is not really singing it. You should listen to some Hubert Kah songs. Some good ones are Military Drums, Limousine, So many People, The Picture, Help Me thru the Night.

I just think that songs used that kind of words just because it was fashion in that time, horror themed songs, more dark, mystic tune, for sure more magical to listen now days.

Oh, you like the voice of the background singer? Sorry, it is playback. The real singer is the famous german Hubert Kah (Kemmler) who is well known from important songs like "Sternenhimmel" from the Neue Deutsche Welle aera. Btw. Sandra is german.

Not sure what you mean, whether don't remember the singer or don't remember me posting this while back. On the singer aspect Sandra is a German pop singer who was very well known across Europe in 80's and early 90's. I don't know how well known she was in US though.

I noticed that they have raised prices quite far from their original 5 dollars a video.I think they may be overeaching now. 20 dollar for each request is a heck of alot of money for a few minutes reaction. They are not stars of any kind,although they are fun to watch video reactions from. I like them,they seem to be good people and I like them bantering in the videos,thats why I ask you if you would put them on,but I wouldnt even pay that even if
