She was very popular in Poland in 80's... Lot of her songs like "Maria Magdalena", "In the Heat Of the Night", "Everlasting Love", "We'll Be Together" and a lot of other were great hits here.
Hey Marc, I love Germany been going there since a small kid in the 80's. Last time i went there was to-Düsseldorf, + then did a day trip to Bochum to go and see Starlight Express was greta to see it again in Bochum. One of my fav Theme Parks in the world is: Europa Park. :-) I'm from UK in England. You ever been?
I loved her music in the 80's, but really loved Sandra's career in the 90's! She was "The voice of Enigma" that was one of my favorites, all through the decade.
This song first became a hit in Greece. The radio was playing it all the time “pirate” stations which were run without any license by ordinary people, usually teenagers or early 20s. At that time cafeterias, beach bars, etc were tuning to radio stations and the song was playing all the time. Back in the ‘80s German tourists were literally everywhere during summertime in Greece. Once the German tourists headed back to their homes in Germany, they were asking to hear the song again which was a reminder of their holidays in Greece, and it then became a hit in Germany and in more countries and Sandra well known as a solo artist.
Dereck, if you enters the world of Sandra, you’ll discover a bunch of masterpieces... “Everlasting Love” “Heaven can wait” “In the Heat of the Night” “Secret Land” “Hiroshima” and so many others...
It was massive in Europe... and Brazil! 😅 She’s got around 15 European hits, plus a few songs with her ex husband’s group Enigma. Love Sandra, very very underrated star.
Yes, Dereck, this is what called the Micahel Cretu effect. He is the genius in the background, her husband. He wrote thousands of megahits not only for his wife but for other german artists as well, even for himself as solo artist. Check out "Samurai" and "Gambit" from him.
All Sandra's tracklist need your reaction ! lol... But especially Heaven can wait, innocent love, secret land, everlasting love, stop for a minute, i need love, johnny wanna live and many more ! I can confess that I had several posters in my room when I was a teenager ;)
Oh my goodness! All of a sudden, I am being taken back to my year in Germany as a 16 year old Exchange student! CC Catch, Sandra, Mandy Smith were I was just so good! Thank you for this reaction!
Maria Magdalena is only one song among so many great hits... We love Sandra so much !!! ❤️❤️❤️ from France 🇫🇷 ....Thank you Dereck for all your reactions that give us so much fun 😃
Sandra was also big in France in the 80's, and probably in other european countries. You should try her song "Everlasting love", the clip is fun and ridiculous, too, and the song so, so catchy!
@@argh1975 Yup, Sandra did quite a few cover songs, including Secret Land (originally Trenchcoat Man by Fabrique) and Hiroshima (originally by Wishful Thinking).
When the voice of a great German singer combines with the musical talent of a great Romanian music producer like Michael Cretu, gems like this song are created!
music we used to hear those years was so good, thanks for pick up those hits and make them live today, how lucky we were in 80's... no stress we just want to have fun!!!
The guy who sang the backing vocals on this song and many other Sandra songs is Hubert Kemmler but the man in the video is named Peter Ries. While he may not have vocals in the song, he still has an amazing voice. He went by Gilbert in the early 80s and had great songs like Give A Little Love, I Don't Care, and So Jung but in 1985, he went by Steve Hall and had songs like Heartbeat (That's Emotion) and Operator in which the first was given to Sandra for her debut album. I highly recommend checking out his music. It's so addicting.
I'm so glad you're undertaking the Sandra journey!! She has several standout tracks such as Hiroshima, Everlasting Love, Secret Land, Heaven Can Wait, Loreen, Hi! Hi! Hi!, Little Girl, Don't Be Aggressive, Stop for a Minute, We'll Be Together, Midnight Man, (Life May Be) A Big Insanity, One More Night, her 2006 collaboration with DJ Bobo, Secrets of Love, to name a few. Looking forward to more Sandra reactions so you continue losing all your fruits and everything.
Brilliant. Sandra is amazing, she has so many great songs. Besides the two songs you already reacted to I like the songs "Johnny Wanna Live" and "Hiroshima" too. And there's many more great songs.
"Oh, my God!" Derek having an Eargasm! HUGE hit in Europe in 1985. Take a listen to Michael Cretu's (Her husband in the 80's-early 90's) hit "Samurai (Did you ever dream)". Fantastic track and HIT that too.
My favourite singer ever! But we have to thank Michael Cretu as well, her producer & (ex)husband who created all her amazing hits! ( let alone Enigma - a masterpiece!) You should know more about her, start with Arabesque! 😊💖P.S. Can you guess whose songs I'm singing on my channel? 🎤😊💖😘 Thanks for this reaction! 😊💖👍
Yesss Dereck! Please more Sandra reactions! If you love Popmusic, if you enjoy 80s and 90s music very catchy but also a bit of edge, you will love her discography. Around My Heart, Secret Land, Midnight Man next please. Hey Little Girl if you want an amazing video from her.
Oh boy this song bring back so many memories!!! That was her one of first tracks of her solo career after breaking up with Arabesque group (couple of attachments below). Great 80s!!!
I loved your comment on all the teenage boys in Europe having posters of her in their room! 😂 You nailed it: I was one of them back in France. I found her so pretty, I thought: Wow! German girls are so beautiful! So I learned German and now I'm married with a beautiful German girl! 😍
"Johnny wanna live" by Sandra is amazing. 1985 was a great year for that type of songs. Other good songs of that year were "Say I'm your number one" by Princess, "Slave to the Rhythm" by Grace Jones, "Remember the promise you made" by Cock Robin, "Slave to love" by Bryan Ferry....
Love your reaction. You are right All my room was full of posters...still having some icone ones!! Maria Magdalena was n 1 in so many countries. Even in mine Spain! I have her Spanish fan club

Maria Magdalena's chorus is a straight rip-off of "Self Control" by 'Raf' (which was also covered by Laura Branigan) which came out the year before. 'Maria Magdalena' even uses the same words during the melodic part that was copied from 'Self Control'... _Self Control (1984):_ *I, I live among the creatures of the night* *I haven't got the will to try and fight* _Maria Magdalena (1985):_ I'll never be Maria Magdalena *(You're a creature of the night)* Maria Magdalena *(You're a victim of the fight)*

From the album "Paintings in Yelllow" (1990): "Hiroshima". You'll love them all :-)
Sandra was huge in the 80's. Try 'Heaven can wait', it has a nice video accompanying this great catchy dance tune. Best album was Secret Land no fillers on that one. Prestine 80's synth pop. Her later work is more refined and incredibly good as well. She should be more remembered en appreciated, she is like a German Madonna and she did sell millions of records at the time.

It was massive in Europe... and Brazil! 😅 She’s got around 15 European hits, plus a few songs with her ex husband’s group Enigma. Love Sandra, very very underrated star.
Strange she's virtually unknown in the UK. Felt as if I was the only one who loved her. Fantastic music!
The Netherlands , Belgium , verry populaire
too many other female pop singers of the same era, probably the reason.
All backings on Sandra’s songs have been sung by Hubert Kemmler. In Germany famous and known as Hubert Kah.

This was without any doubt Sandra biggest hit here in Portugal. This song still plays on AC radios every week.
It’s so good!
She has so many hits left ! "Hi! Hi! Hi!", her cover of "Everlasting love" and "(Life may be) A big insanity" are among my favorites !
Hiroshima, a masterpiece
