Garp punches Luffy. Luffy: "Ow! How come your punches hurt even though I'm made of rubber." Garp: "I infused them with Armament Haki. It allows me to bypass your devil fruit and hit your true body." Luffy: "mhmm... I see, so its a mystery punch." Garp punches again: "How bout this then it hurts because I filled it with love!" Luffy: "Ow ow ow!"
The way Haki isn't talked about in the first part of the series but is so ubiquitous in the second reminds me how in the East Blue arc Devil Fruits are so rare to the point people think they're a myth, yet once they get to the Grand Line everyone and their dog has one.

you know always find if funny how garp is comic relief and a likeable character but was also a child abusing monster who honestly is legit one of the worst people in the story for that
No one with Haki are truly nice people. But it is telling that Garp calls Haki Love. He is not really the kind of person who supports lies for children so he truly does on some level believe his Ambition to Change the world is his love for his grandchildren, even if he has to push them to be better
Honestly, since haki is the physical form of willpower, Garps will might be rooted in his love not just for family but in general like as a marine and as a hero.
@@yami122 Counterpoint: Luffy is a Shonen protag from a family of fighters. If Garp _didn't_ beat Luffy regularly in that context, it would mean Garp didn't care about him at all. Unrelated but sometimes i think about the fact that Mihawk was very respectful of Zoro in their fight.....in reality he could have just pulled the ultimate flex, refuse to take out any sort of blade, and slap Zoro around with bare hands.
@@davidortiz3094 I am just saying he could have taken it a step further and slap his ass without any sort of blade. Imagine having to tell people that you challenged the strongest swordsman to a sword fight but he just folded you with bare hands.
maybe he used a little bit of armament on that pocket knife of his. Mihawk may be absurdly skilled with a sword, but I don't see him as physically strong as Zoro, even pre-TS.
@@ritacirocavalcante you serious? Haki doesn't make you physically stronger, it makes your hits heavier. Like... Mihawk could beat pre-ts Zoro in arm wrestling with his ear muscles lol
It is wild to me that when I first stumbled across Tekkin, he had just started reviewing the Fullbringers in Bleach and I was a baby faced High schooler. Now I've been out of college for a few years, have a beard and an adult job, and Tekkin somehow is still exactly the same as he was back then. From his appearance to his bedroom.
As other people have pointed out, Haki is said to bloom in battle. Aside from some exceptions, most Haki users, especially Armament Haki users, were fighters, or lovers of battle. For a lot of the early story characters, this may not have been a requirement. Characters like Buggy and Crocodile are first pirates, and then sneaky or cunning schemers. I'd like to think Buggy or Crocodile would prefer to get their work done via deception or manipulation rather than outright battle, so it makes sense to not really ever focus on Haki.
Crocodile might have been one of the logia users that was so confident and depended on his devil fruit power that he never tried to improve in any other way
The concept of Haki was not a thing yet. But a lot of people didn't peep this during their fight. Oda gave a hint that there was a way to physically fight logia's without exploiting there elemental weakness during the fight. Go to the episode where Luffy first starts to use his own blood during the fight. Crocodile was confused because there is no water splashed on Luffy like in the beginning. Crocodile starts to comment "Could he have......" But then he notices the blood on Luffy finally and does not complete his thought. Lot of people never caught on to that.
Okay, now how many of you have used or know what haki is? Usopp: do slingshots count? No Luffy: is meat haki? No luffy, meat is not haki! Luffy raises hand Fish is not haki either Luffy puts down hand
Sometimes Oda reminds me of Blackbeard. To one degree he's a genius mastermind who's been setting up plans for decades and we really have no idea what his end goal is. Then sometimes he's just flying by the seat of his pants who hasn't quite figured the plan before he does it.
Crocodile focusing heavily on his devil fruit would also explain how he's aware of awakened devil fruit states. Maybe he awakened his fruit, and that's how he's able to turn things into sand by touching them. Same way how Akainu and Aokiji permanently transformed Punk Hazard during their fight together.
@@mozalucas I'm skeptical about that. Right before he transforms the environment, Crocodile specifically mentions that the 'essence of sand is absolute dryness', and then he places his hand on the ground in a similar fashion to what we see in later paramecia awakenings. Also, his presence in Alabasta was able to cause a drought which only ended after Luffy defeated him. Both of these together suggest he has a much deeper grasp on his devil fruit than simply manipulating sand.
@@Nyrufa I mean is Aokiji awakened Logia? No, because as he is ice, he generates frost. Crocodile's sand powers is actually also the power of drought and like Aokiji, he generates it through the environment. Also "his prescence in Alabasta was able to cause a drought"??? What do you think the whole ship utilizing dance powder that Smoker confiscated was for but to create drought?
@@sugartoothYT Aokiji created ice by either freezing water, or coating the environment with it. We haven't seen him actually transform the environment into ice (on screen), like what Crocodile did. He was transforming rocks, plants and even doors into fresh sand. Meaning that he can theoretically transform an island into a permanent desert, like how Aokiji and Akainu permanently altered Punk Hazard after their duel.
@@Nyrufa His presence did not caused the drought. He used Dance Powder first only on the capital and later on around the kingdom. Hell the Navi even captures the ship that did it at the end of that arc.
I recently watched the end of the dress Rosa arc and an interesting line: "all those trained in haki come with me" it implies that some people in the marines army like the various people we see are starting to be trained in haki. This is probably due to the most recent events at that point in the story. Until that point they may not have made haki a well known thing even in the marines.

@@walterlaten7662 In Enel's case there are multiple options, he could just annihilate anyone who knows haki but didn't know about Enel's ability, or perhaps Enel seeing himself as a God wouldn't bother with mortal tricks. Buggy may have known about haki but due to haki requiring a good amount of training to get proper use of it he opted to delve into his fruit in a weaker sea as most people use slashing weapons or guns which he can split himself up to evade. Arlong either didn't know haki or never developed it to a strong point as he believed Fishman were superior to humans so he simply took over a weaker sea's island and kicked back there. Crocodile definitely knew about haki but wanted to figure out things he could do with his fruit and after doing so decided he didn't need haki with how powerful he was, he most likely will have trained his haki after losing to Luffy. The marines likely always knew haki but with so many recruits they most likely left those who didn't know haki before the grand line and only started haki training in the grandline/ new world. Also note that most of the new fishman pirates didn't use haki but chose to use the drug instead, now whether that's because they didn't know haki or just because the drug was easier is up for debate but due to them not using haki could explain why Arlong didn't know it, because of how much Jones idolized him he'd definitely have learned haki to be more like his idol. Sorry for the long message
@@walterlaten7662Haki was just called being strong. We see this in Wano. A lot of people use Haki but it's was literally never called that in Wano. Noland and Kalgara both knew Haki but it was most likely never called that back then either. They most likely just called armament Haki "strength", observation Haki "instinct", and conqueror's Haki "presence/charisma". The fact of the matter is we don't know when Haki was officially recognized, studied, and understood as a specific set of abilities vs a vague quality that some people possessed. We also over-estimate it's prevalence in the wider One Piece world by focusing on a part of the world where it is highly saturated and still growing. Another thing to think about is the fact that Haki isn't the end all be all in terms of fighting. It is more than possible for a Haki user to lose to a non-Haki user. We have also seen on multiple occasions that one of the Navy's greatest strength is it's numbers. Getting as many people as possible without limiting recruitment to those who show an innate talent for Haki is a valid strategy that has helped the navy become the world power it is (quantity over quality). Long story short the one piece world is WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY BIGGER than Haki, we're just focusing on a part of it where it's really intense and prevalent.
No its stated in the manga that all vice admirals and higher rank know haki and also this is somewhat recent information but luccis rokuougan is ryuou which is a special type of armament haki.
Important detail: these are Marines posted in the New World. Given how common it is in the area it makes sense that the Marines learn haki early by necessity instead of late by formality. Slightly higher ranking Marines in other seas are likely weaker than those in the New World.
I'm not sure. She didn't seem to travel that much? I mean, Haki doesn't seem to be so widely known, except if you go further in the grandline or fight powerful opponents, which I don't think she did either of those. If she could learn it, then it would mean it was more known, because anybody who would learn it may pass the knowledge down, whowh don't seem to happen. Sorry if I don't make a lot of sense, I'm not an English native speaker.

"Haki blooms in the heat of battle" is such a beautiful retcon by Oda because it explains why nobody says shit. I think the reason why people like Crocus or Garp or heck even GANFALL from Skypiea say anything about Haki (or Mantra) is because it's not just something you can learn or get a pamphlet to unlock. It's got to be awakened from battle. The revolutionary army has kids trained like military combatants for them to awaken their haki. It's something that they gotta pop for themselves.
Rayleigh said that Haki can be learned by everyone and I think that it doesn't unlock at a certain age. It depends on the person and as you said haki blooms in battle. My idea is that the CP9 don't know and wasn't able to unlock haki because they are already very strong in the grandline. No one can stop them and they always achieve their goals. Things were just too easy for them. Also I think that the government didn't taught the CP9 members haki because maybe one day the CP9 could betray them and with rokushiki, haki and devil fruit they could be a threat. Look at Who's-who, he knows haki and rokushiki and also has a devil fruit. He was able to escape Mariejois. The government not teaching the CP9 haki is just another way for them to keep the CP9 in check.
@@kayl65 the cp9 are stealth assassins.I can imagine they accomplish their goals secretively by stabbing at the back. The strawhats were probably their first face to face battle that challenged them
@@kayl65 Yeah, I could buy that. A fan story I read a while ago brought up the idea that the World Government was deliberately stunting the growth of its forces just to keep them easier to control.
The reason for CP9 not knowing haki could be Spandan's incompetence. Either a) Spandan thought if he made CP9 any stronger they'd stop listening to him. Or b) A higher up saw that Spandan was leading assassins and went, I don't trust him with haki assassins.
I would agree with you but check the listing of members of CP0. That said government organizations have different people in acquisition, investigation, interrogation, analysis, communication, and Enforcement. It could easily be that Spandam’s skillset lies in investigation or communication (connections/politics to cover a lack of actual skill). Further, I’m not sure we know how the CPNumbers are actually organized by the system, 9 seems to have been the lowest and 0 is the highest, but it could also be a matter of districts or target viability. CP9 was clearly not considered necessary for any other tasks in the multiple years they were stalking Iceberg based on Spandam’s personal obsessions with acquiring the Pluton Blueprints and Spandam was clearly over the moon with the Opportunities of both Franky (personal vengeance) and Nico Robin (Father’s great Black Mark) almost literally falling into his lap. The While Eins Lobby Arc could have easily been something that should have been in the hands of CP3 or CP5 but both Spandam and Lucci wanted the rank and status of this Big Score
@@michaelmaki6857 CP9 are absolutely not lowest Cipher Poll, they are given a unique right to kill as they see fit and must remain hidden to not stain the reputation of the Government. That is huge responsibility. Also Sanji much more easily beat lower-numbered CP operatives than CP9, so by battle-Shonen logic they are lower in importance. Also also Spandam was in charge of CP5, but was PROMOTED to being the chief of CP9. Also x3, CP9 was not stagnant for the 5 years they stalked Iceberg. When we were introduced to Jabra, Fukuro and Kumadori, they were just being chewed out for a different mission.
My thoughts were just whenever a cipherpol member learns haki they’re immediately rolled into cp0 so some commanders keep it secret from their best guys to not lose them to 0
"There was no one who would tell Luffy about Haki until the Kuja." Ummm, aren't you forgetting Ace here? And with Smoker around, it would have really made sense for him to tell Luffy how to hurt Logia users.
Ace himself is a little weird when it comes haki. We know he has all 3 forms but its like he doesn't know he has all 3. We've seen him use conquers as a kid but seemingly never used it again. We know he has armament but he was surprised when black beard punched him(of course bb wasn't using haki) but it still shouldn't of been a surprise hell pre devil fruit bb was able to scar shanks. Finally we see him use observation in the anime but I dont remember if that was filler or not
@@dishantithomas4198 Haki users don't use haki all the time. Its been mention that its draining to have armament up. As a haki user, Ace would be able to tell if BB was using haki. @@arthurmarshall6825 oh bullshit and you know it. Hes a divison commander it doesnt instantly drain you as soon as you use it. And certainly wouldnt stop ACE from using it the moment he realized how deadly BB was. Stop being in denial. Its a fucking retcon, get over it
It seems like Luffy was always using it a little bit passively. Like when he hit blackbeard in impel down and he was like "Oh, your haki's a bit stronger now".
I'll say that while Haki is part of the core of the grand line, I'd argue its not part of the basics. The lessons for Haki are pretty intense/long term. And crocus can show you the basics of a compass in a day or two, but haki would be a long time to learn. The basics of Haki? He could probably have dropped a hint like "eh, you can learn it from people who know how to fight" but hey, long running manga with a change in power systems.
I'm reminded of how Rayleigh, an expert in haki, specifically said to Luffy that he could not train someone to use haki in less than 2 years, and he was shocked when Luffy picked it up in less than that. It really suggests that learning haki takes a very long time, to the point some of these characters we see without it pre-timeskip like Smoker or Crocodile must have been training in it before the timeskip. I'd agree, it's really not something basic.
before the grandline, the story made a point about how crazy dangerous grandline is. Crocus probably saw ton of pirates go to grandline then die in a few days.
Personally, I think Haki could be soft-retconed to have been there all along in varying degrees but it only gets visible in extreme cases. Like, Garp can bypass Luffy's rubber body just fine without the glossy cover, and Zoro is pretty ridiculous in his weight training, also, Margarete does shot arrow rpg's at Luffy without the black sheen. And I'm guessing most pirates wouldnt bother to turn back all the way to the weakest seas to make a show of their full power haki. I alos think CP9 would have been brought up so as to have little to no 'ambition', if they were to be tools for the governenment, so haki would not just develop unless they really pusehd hard.
I always took it as the sheen doesn't appear until Luffy can use observation haki. Back when Rayleigh was teaching Luffy about the types of Haki, he uses armament haki and there is no black sheen. Once Luffy learns observation, we start to see the black sheen.
@dggdvg0 That's grossly not true. Lightning appears when conquerers is used. Black Blades only exist because of Haki infusion Just get over the issue that it IS a retcon. Its not a big deal just stop being in denial that oda isnt perfect and he has to pull stuff out of his ass occasionally for the stories sake
Pretty sure the reason why CP-9 never used haki is because they think they didn't need to use it or they are trying to master rokushiki techniques first.
@@SmartAss4123 I'm pretty sure armament coating is extra-diegetic. Lightning is visible but the coating has never been acknowledged as visible in-world. No character has ever referenced it. Black blades become black after a process that involves mainly haki, but the black coating of armament haki is not acknowledged ever, see Mihawk's explanation of black blades, he never draws any distinction between the two. Can you reference any context in which a character has shown that they see the black coating? Because black blades are a special case. DO NOT dare dismissing me as an Oda fanboy, because I'm not. *Edit* : Eh, now that I think about it, Black blades are not even coated in haki, silly me. Not only that, in the manga no one said anything when Luffy used Elephant Gun against the kraken.
Previous to Haki's explanation, it was an invisible force to the crew and therefore to the audience. Many characters likely did express Haki or at the least had the capacity to use it, but it wasn't necessary to explain given the circumstances. For example, Its stated by Oda (When asked) that the 6 powers are NOT Haki. But then the question arises, is Haki (as a defensive option) stronger than the "Iron Body" technique. As unlikely as it seems, its possible that Iron Body is actually better than Haki for defensive purposes rather than offensive purposes. -This also is backed up by the fact that Koby is shown using "Shave" implying that Garp has the ability to use the 6 powers, but in the same chapter attacks Luffy with Armament Haki, we know its Haki because he expresses pain and the crew is taken aback by the fact that he had taken actual damage from a blunt attack. Moving forward, On the end of offensive tactics, its also entirely possible that the 6 powers are ultimately stronger than a base knowledge of haki when relating to both, Armament Haki with Iron Body, and Observation Haki with the dodging one i forgot what it was named. The powers themselves exist in such an obvious parallel that it would be difficult to believe that Garp would use anything but the 6 powers when hitting Luffy in the scene. That being said, the 6 powers being shown nearly directly before Haki's reveal shows substantial evidence that the 6 powers are relevant to a different extent, albeit possibly lesser.
Just coincidentally I’ve been reading the manga recently and Oda answered an SBS about this. Morgan got lucky that Kuro spared him, but he’s always been strong and evil. Oda says this exactly: “It is Morgan. He was a sergeant then, but after that incident he was promoted to lieutenant commander. Then he muscles his way up to Captain and was given command of a Navy base. I suspect that when Kuro looked deep into Morgan’s eyes, he probably sensed a kindred spirit of some kind.” So you can call it luck, but Kuro likely picked Morgan over others.
Oda definitely had haki thought out by Drumm, with Hiriluk's quote of eyes like an eagle, a body hard like stone, and a voice that tears the sky asunder
@@GJMEGA1 Apparently it's not in the manga, only the anime, which means it was actually around the time of Alabasta (the manga arc coming out when Drumm was airing in the anime)
I have always thought that CP9 members are forbidden to learn haki, that the world government has set this rule as a precaution against any risk of rebellion/betrayal. I think the fact that all of them learned haki while transitioning to CP0 can be considered as proof of this.
That makes no sense whatsoever... so if they ever came across a Logia user, than that's that? They're F'd? It's completely illogical for the WG to have such a rule. People would rather come up with this type of absurd mental gymnastics than to simply admit that Oda might've overlooked a fews things while writing OP... Too much fanboysism.
Love the video. My thoughts on Crocodile is that it was a mental block. His ambition was crushed so decisively by Whitebeard, that it wasn't till he saw the insurmountable rival get killed that he was able to move on from the mental block
@@Tekking101 oh boy what if zorro actually would have beaten mihawk if he knew better haki? We both know Mihawk could have sliced zorro in half but chose to only slash him with a near fatal wound. IMO Zorro would have beaten mihawk had he not had the knowledge of haki.
One thing to take into consideration is that armament haki initially wasn't visible, it's only after a bit that Oda started to draw the balkanization, I feel like he wanted to pull the "some people actually used some haki in the story but you didn't see it" card, then the editors said "not drawing apowerup is lame"
*The universe where Mihawk really didn’t take Zoro seriously at first* Mihawk: Alright... I’ll test your worth with this. *raises his index finger, coats it Armament Haki* Zoro: You’re not even gonna use a blade against me? Mihawk: For a true swordsman, anything can be a blade. Even a simple finger.
I'm pretty sure the straw hats were unconsciously tapping into Haki or the concept canonically since the start. Especially the monster trio. I believe that Zoro, in particular despite the visual effect not existing yet had been using a degree of Haki inconsistently since Alavasta. Given more recent events in the manga, I'm 99% sure Ashura has something to do with haki.
I've been thinking about Buggy a lot recently, and think there is might be more to him than just the comedy relief Oda wants him to be. After observing him and his flashbacks multiple times, especially the Oden one's where he continued to fight for 3 days against the white beards just like shanks. I feel like he might be hiding something or holding something back to stay hidden.
Crocus: *stares intensely with observation haki hoping they'd ask to be taught.* ~dum dum dum dum dum dum~ Strawhats: _get confused about it and act out, and only ask about the way out_
He's gotta have it, he would of saw the straw hat and protected Luffy and possibly tested him to see what his devil fruit was now that we know it's the Nika fruit not the rubber fruit he could of went on his way to go with straw hat cause he always seems to be close by Luffy.
Coby was told after Marineford that Vice Admirals and above know how to use Haki, so captain Morgan should not, it requires a lot more dedication to train in than the fanbase likes to think
well it's kind of hard to imagine when you know characters like sabo/coby learn it in 2 years or less and you see every FODDER marine in dressrossa using armament haki but yes it would require you to... probably train it specifically for a year or two, which would be a. hard when you don't know about it and b. hard to do when you're sailing on a ship, finding treasure, trying to find pluton, being the leader of a gang 24/7 yeah I mean I guess realistically 1-2 years of being taught it is kind of a tall task, but Rayleigh did say that some people unlock it right before their death, but end up dying anyways, so there might be a shortcut but only if you really think your life is on the line yeah I guess putting aside 1-2 years from your goals of sailing the seas or w/e ur plans are is difficult, it's easy for marines who do nothing but train all day, or sabo who did nothing but train all day I think it's just hard to comprehend that these absolute FODDER marines could learn haki and all of them have haki, but beasts of characters who can decimate them, and who SHOULD WANT TO LEARN HAKI, just don't learn it. you'd think if u want to be a pirate/evil person and fight other people then you'd learn haki, but I guess not. guess it's easier said than done. like people who play league of legends for 5 years and still can't hit 90 cs+ a game if they try lmao hard stuck silver.
I guess one explanation could be that Haki is simply not overly prominent in Paradise..... though this would also come with the caveat that Logia powers appear more dominant in that part of the world than they actually are. It'd be kinda like how Devil Fruits as a whole are rare in East Blue (and possibly the other three oceans), but once you get to Paradise, they're friggin' everywhere. At any rate, Crocus may've simply thought that people just entering the beginning of Paradise haven't had enough experience to know about the real shit that'll come about in the New World, but if they do manage to get that far, knowledge about it will come to them naturally. Another thing I think is worth mentioning: Crocus may just not be capable of using Haki himself. Yes, he was a member of Gold Roger's crew, but do consider that the Strawhat Pirates are a good ways into the New World, and over half of Luffy's crew STILL doesn't seem to know a single form of Haki, let alone all three (as an aside, I'm especially surprised that Robin never learned it during the timeskip, given that she was training with Dragon..... assuming Demonio Fleur isn't supposed to be Armament). With that in mind, it wouldn't at all surprise me if the doctor of Roger's crew wasn't a crucial combatant, and therefor had no mastery of Haki like some of the more physically powerful members. Thus, it might be easy to explain that the reason Crocus didn't tell anyone about Haki is because doing so might be difficult if he were incapable of a live demonstration (though, you do make a good point about him being able to explain that Logias aren't invincible, but really, I just think that the subject of Luffy's fight with Smoker simply never came up). Also, I have a guess as to why Arlong never used Haki. As a Fishman, he's a natural master of aquatic combat, and even has some control over the flow of seawater. Given that these alone are MAJOR weaknesses for all ability-users, Logias very much included, he may've just never seen the need to bother with an alternative method to fight such opponents (more so since he isn't a disciplined and dedicated martial-artist like Jimbei is). Plus, one must consider that One Piece seemingly has an even bigger water surface than our earth, with nearly every landmass just being a relatively small island (granted, the Red Line is a continent that stretches around the entire globe, though one that's pretty thin in width). This means that Fishmen have an inherent advantage against ability-users in nearly every part of the world by default.
The funny thing is the east blue might be the weakest sea but all of the really strong characters come from there like luffy, garp, dragon, roger, rayleigh zoro, usoppand buggy d clown
Buggy was actually born on the Grand Line. He came to the East Blue after leaving Roger’s crew because he knew he would be considered powerful in the East, and he could exploit the fact that pretty much no one would know how to deal with his Devil Fruit.
Maybe Crocus didn't want to destroy their dreams imagine Luffy wasn't strong enough to use Haki at the time and Crocus tells him he will die. He might have not told them about it because it is unlikely to need Haki on the first few islands. Don't forget that being followed by a Logia Navy officer and planning to fight a Sand Logia Warlord is something that not everyone gets to experience :P
@@Sertifi He probably didn't mention it because there was no time, it would have taken him months to teach Luffy haki, and Luffy wouldn't have been able to attain it without training.
@@Sertifi why would he talk about something that could be damaging to him. Remember some people have innate talent for haki (Eneru) what if by talking about it he would give Luffy an awakening to Haki. As someone who survived the New World there is no reason for him to take any risks

A thought on CP 9 and Haki. Haki is Ambition. CP 9, your pet assassins, are not people you want too much Ambition in. Ambitious Assassins might just get Ideas. The bodyguard group might get a pass from necessity due to just how many people with Devil Fruits and Haki would be gunning for the Nobles. So you sort of need your bodyguards to be able to actually do their jobs.
my headcannon is that haki has to manifest naturally before it can be learned or trained. I also think that it is less likely to naturally manifest if you are trying to make it. at least that first time. that's why nobody tells newbies in pirates or marines or cipher pole or countries. becuase you actively sabotage someone's ability to learn it if you tell them about it. even if you are an enemy you don't want to tell them about it on the off chance they have it and didn't realize it. telling them could make them stronger. so basically there is an unspoken rule that there is no fight club.
I feel the 7 deadly sins motif can be categorized more like this in the closer to Latin themes. Pride - Dishonesty. Being unable to see and admit ones own faults. Greed - Uncharitableness. Being unable to value what they have, only valuing that they have it. Envy - Covetousness. Placing value on what others have, and on what one doesn't. Sloth - Complacency. Comfortable with lacking the motivation or ambition to do more than the minimum. Lust - Obsessiveness. Willingness to do 'Anything' in 'Anyway' to achieve or obtain something. Wrath - Apathy. Unwillingness to sympathize, emphasize, or show mercy. Gluttony - Wastefulness. Valuing nothing, to the point of destruction. Very bare boned definitions, I know. I would say Crocodile is definitely closer to Envy, Greed, or Lust.
Moria is honestly more so on the envy side because he feels the emptiness of his crew and failures. He still strives to go beyond and become the pirate king. Crocedile lost his dreams and tried to be lazy and comfortable as he can about it, bullying people below him. Moria overall is still heavily ambitious and he is literally surrounded by larger-than-life forces all around him. He spent his life’s work trying to create the best and the most invincible pirate crew around and sought after the most powerful corpses he could get his hands on.
He certainly seems to be a joke to you. I know that many people write the name differently, but "Jinbie" is probably the worst one that I've seen. Jinbe would probably be pride, because of his goal to better the relationship between humans and fishmen and because of his past with Fisher Tiger.
@@xxshadow-_-gamerxx1932 shanks conqueror haki would never work on buggy. To familiar with him that would be like usopp being knocked out by luffys haki lol
@UCLdJtBZjA61tf7JDVlscB6Q saying that buggy or lucci doesn’t know Haki isn’t a logical mistake, buggy never said he doesn’t know haki , lucci is a guy who’s all jobs are in paradise, he was already taught powerful techniques, crocodile knows haki and he said it to luffy at alabasta, but he never learned it , that’s why he escaped from the new world, it all makes sense just because the haki doesn’t have value without physical strength, from fishmen island to wholecake, armament haki wasn’t what made him wins in the fights
Dr. Hiruluk: "A pirate? Pirates are great men of the sea. They have a body hard like stone, the eyes of an eagle, and a voice that tears the sky asunder!" These are clearly the three types of Haki. Absolutely Hiruluk and Kureha knew about Haki in some way. The best explanation is that Hiruluk's cherry blossom land that cured him was Wano and that Kureha's secret to youth is also Haki. Obviously Mantra is advanced observation. There are endless examples. Fully developed Haki requires a certain level of strength. Without that strength and experience, it comes out without the user knowing. Nami's superhuman navigation is observation, so is Usopp's insane aiming. Zoro slicing the stone and not cutting the leaf is advanced armament (the same thing is said by Zoro's master in East Blue as Hyo in Wano about what armament Haki really is and what it can do). Haki was used all throughout the first half of One Piece, it just wasn't given visualization until Luffy learned it, because the story is from Luffy's perspective. It's the same thing as us not knowing things about the world that we should, because Luffy doesn't pay attention to that stuff. Lucci has been confirmed to have known and be using Haki in Enies Lobby and it's very clear the 6 powers are a learning tool for the precursors of Haki in general. Luffy and Sanji learned the 6 powers (it's arguable Luffy only knows Tekkai, Soru, Kami-e, but Rokuogan is a basically a specific form of advanced armament Haki) Crocodile of course knows Haki and probably used it constantly throughout the arc, but he just applied it to his sand attacks, explaining why they are so freakishly strong for just being sand. There's not a single example of Haki being a plothole if you understand that Haki was used but not shown all the time. Characters talk about Haki constantly, just not in the language of Haki, because the word "Haki" is not a universal term. "Wano" uses Ryuo, Amazon Lily uses "Haki."
This kinda make sense, most people assume that haki makes you invincible to normal attacks where what it really does is make you more resistant to damage In the case of crocodile of course he knew haki but the elemental counter just made him weak enough to where Luffy could hurt him even with his armament active People always forget that armament has levels Weak armament exists like the kuja pirates and some low ranking officers of the Marines and cp9 Then there's people like Virgo, katakuri and kaido with very strong armament
I think he forgot to mention ACE, he was the one who could/should have told Luffy and his Crew about haki in Alabasta. He probably knew about it since he was the 2nd division commander of the whitebeard pirates and was mostly hanging out in the new world before going after Blackbeard of course.
Togashi clearly hinted at Nen in the first arc. It was specifically hinted at when the instructors comment on the fact there are two applicants that already have an aura
You could easily mistake that as just the cliched ‘killer aura’ you see throughout all manga, even in gag or shoujo manga. It was only in Heaven’s Arena where it was explained that “No, it’s a legitimate skill you can use and master through training, not just a trope in fiction”. Same for Zetsu, which prior to Wing’s explanations you can just view it as ‘concentrating really hard on not making a sound’ as Gon had shown in the Hunter Exams. Can’t blame people for not catching these hints because of how universally-accepted it is that these tropes and cliches, especially in shounen, are just there for dramatic effect and not actual skills in-universe like Hunter X Hunter.
@@somethingcool1533 yeah but there’s the fact that killua didn’t know about nen dispute having multiple family members that’s can use it and trained him on how to fight. Then later in the chimera ant arc he recognized his grandpa’s dragon dive nen technique so he def should’ve known about it lol.
@@yoboiboy4182 That's my point. Nen wasn't discussed at the beginning so there's nothing the audience would've known until the story explained it. Not to mention the example you brought up is another cliche in shounen where a character briefly name-drops some other character's newly introduced technique/ability to both give it dramatic weight and give it a cool name (AKA the reaction panels from Dragon Ball). Since nobody else knew Zeno except for Killua and Netero, it would be Killua by default that would have to name drop the technique for the audience to really establish the situation escalating to an absurd level of chaos. Even tho it retcons Killua's character a bit (which honestly isn't much considering everything else).
Pride: Mihawk, his pride as the greatest swordsman in the world, and his pride made him refuse to fight Shanks after he lost his arm. Greed: Doflamingo, was the biggest arms dealer in the world, was literally a celestial dragon which may as well be the embodiment of greed in One Piece Lust: Boa, you know why Envy: Jinbei, a jealousy towards humans and their freedoms as opposed to the fishman, and longing to see the sun as children since he represents fishmen as a whole to the world Gluttony: Crocodile, his ambition made him attempt to steal the title of the greatest from Whitebeard and seek out an ancient weapons. On the subject of Captain “Axe Hand” Morgan’s lack of haki, I’m pretty confident he cheated his way to that rank by pretending he defeated Captain Kuro. So it would make sense he not only didn’t know haki but that the marines would assume he did. Unless that was anime only.
Not so much pretended he defeated Kuro, but legit was hypnotized into believing he did so by Jango. There’s also the fact that his rank of captain is technically 3 ranks lower since he’s a branch officer vs a headquarters officer.
Also, he was stationed in the East Blue. Out of all the locations in One Piece, I feel like Haki is the least necessary there. Smoker even used a seastone weapon instead of Haki probably because East Blue Marines don't really need it.
@@mildsatyr3731 also the fact that pretime skip haki did not darken the body so would not even know if smoker had a basic level of haki or not since he could still hit threw devil fruit defense because of his seastone weapon also the weapon drains devil fruit energy due to being seastone as well so useful even with haki.
I know this video was made over a year ago but I think we have a pretty good explanation now for why CP9 was taught Rokushiki and not Haki. Time and resources! But for real, I would argue that it probably takes most people in the one piece world years upon years to develop haki through training if they don't awaken it randomly like Coby did. Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji were able to use haki after 2 years because they all had insanely powerful people training them, but it's also established that they already had an abnormally high level of ambition when compared to almost anyone else in the world. The CP9 members were constantly sent out on missions, even long-term undercover missions. It would make sense for the WG and navy to have a policy to only train people in Haki who have naturally awakened it to some extent or have shown that they have some affinity to it because the time and resources it would take to train anyone else would be exponentially greater. The CP9 agents that were promoted to CP0 were probably trained in Haki after Ennie's Lobby out of necessity because the WG realized they needed stronger CP agents. I imagine that they are probably taught Rokushiki first because those abilities don't rely on the user's ambition and it's probably more reliable to train agents that way rather than risk trying to train people in haki who might never be able to use it. We also don't really know how long it took for all of them to learn the powers, it's very likely that the CP9 agents who were undercover at Galley-La only mastered all of the Rokushiki powers just before going undercover, and the ones who didn't go undercover may have still been training or on other missions during that time. TLDR: It's very much believable that CP9 was not trained in Haki by the time of Ennie's Lobby because the WG just didn't have the time and resources to train a bunch of active agents in both super advanced martial arts and Haki, especially since they can always just call in a vice admiral to situations where Haki is needed.
Tekking, man, thank you for being you. Your pure excitement has gotten me thru more days than I can count recently. For a long time, the OP community and weekly chapters/epis are the highlights of my week and I can confidently say you and others give me life! Thank you for making me smile!
"Why the Marines did not teach the CP9 Haki?" Yeah, like it's a good idea to give AMBITION to a bunch of assassins you don't have real allegiance or family to hold on to. Remember Who is Who? They did lock him up, I imagine it would be harder if he had Haki back then.
People seem to forget that Haki is quite hard to teach too and you need aptitude for it. Not even all Strawhats have it. And they need to want to learn it, Rokushiki seems quite fine really.
Also haki blooms in warrior culture. Not the same as assassin culture. Or following orders culture that is the Marines/world government in general. Amazon Lily was a warrior culture and they all knew haki though only the sisters knew conquerors. Zoro learned a bit from training with mihawk and Sanji from new kamas also a warrior culture if an odd one.
@@Fallenangel_85 I MEAN ALL THE MARINE FODDER legit FODDER in dressrossa can all use haki, doesn't seem hard to teach or need aptitude for it. but I don't know.
Oda has stated he wanted to introduce Haki to the Strawhats early on, but for a long time he struggled with its appearance and how it would he visually indicated, as it is invisible cannonically
I think Crocus introducing them to the log pose wasn’t helping them perse it was more him starting them off in their actual journey since you can’t start a journey unless you have all the equipment for it. Crocus understood Haki wouldn’t be relevant that soon
With power come the desire to use it, it breeds conflict, and buggy being the philosophical mastermind he is, deliberately nerfed himself to stay away from such conflict.
Not really. I think Crocodile is way stronger than we believe as Oda even mentioned it in a SBS how he did introduce him and his arc too early in the story. Plus, I think he nerfed himself in the Alabasta Arc by using his Devil Fruit to prevent it from ruining in the country. Crocodile told Luffy during their first fight that he mastered his Devil Fruit to perfection. Plus, Crocodile was the first character in the story to mention Devil Fruit Awakening to us in Impel Down when he was talking about the Jailor Beast Guards being Awakened Zoan users.
Its because what you know about crocodiles power level is false. Like the other comment explained, he's a lot stronger than he was in alabasta which is why he's still in the story and hasn't been important yet. When he shows up it's going to need to make an impact and the power levels are already super high so he must be stronger than that.
@@retrogamermax8287 oda just fucked up the power scaling that’s all. There’s no way he loses to pre time skip luffy then goes toe to toe with doflamingo and mihawk.
@@yoboiboy4182 I somewhat agree with you about Crocodile's scaling in the story because pre-Gear Haki Luffy shouldn't have been to beat Crocodile. And there's like I said where I think Crocodile was already Awakened Logia user and was using most of his power to keep Alabasta from ruining for years. Like if that's true, he wasn't 100% fighting Luffy at Alabasta because of that but he was 100% at Marineford since he wasn't holding up anything. Though, I think it's just as likely it was a mistake on Oda's part to introduce Crocodile's arc so damn early in the story.
Even if Crocodile know of haki's existence, learning and using it is different from just knowing. And people learn in different speed. Even if he had haki, if it's not strong enough it will still possible to lose to someone not using haki. Like Sasaki vs Franky shows it is possible.
i disagreed... crocodile showed to be a boss of a bunch of devil fruit users and very fond of his devil fruit. Crocodile also showed to believe his DF is superior than other so he probably refused to lose to luffy devil fruit power. @@FHK_88 yeah he didn't want to use it. I think cro took an L because he underestimated luffy. Like he is confident enough to hired Robin so I don't think his haki is weak that luffy can barely feel it. Maybe just mid haki

Buggy clearly have a fourth unknown type of haki that makes people follow him and even he doesn't know about it just like Luffy didn't know about his conquerers, and he's the only one who has it
Haki feels like a core component is awakening it. Yeah you can train it, but outside conquerors you have to intentionally develop it or be physically pushed until it kicks on ie Ussop. As for CP9…rokushiki has haki elements like Shigan hurt Luffy a bit and Tekkai is very rudimentary armament. Kamei is basically observation. I think it was haki, just specific applied usage of it.
I feel like Kuma would be Envy because he might be envious of being free, since he’s a slave now and, apparently, someone with a connection to the Revolutionary Army (their goal being to liberate the world from the government)? Idk
Then you got Law, Jimbe, Buggy, Weevil... even Blackbeard. You end up with more members than 7 at some point because folk were revoked/resigned to make a list like that work. I mean, sure, Moria gets revoked, who would be Sloth after him? Then something like Wrath and Pride can go for several of the warlords... even lust and greed depending on how you spin it. I think Jimbe is a real hard one to pigeon hole as a sin because he seems to be an actual stand up sort of guy, even Kuma seems to be, to you point. Though I have to admit Greed from FMA is the best spin I have seen for that sin.
@@blktom Jinbe is probably the hardest one but if I had to give him one I would actually give him Sloth for letting Arlong go free, I mean, it wasn't for laziness but if you had to give him a sin I guess you could spin it to something like "he didn't put the effort to stop Arlong from becoming a greater evil", then I would give Moria gluttony cause well... he literally eats the shadows? (yup, that's the best I could come up with) To me the best match ups would be: Crocodile - Greed Moria - Gluttony Boa - Lust Doflamingo - Envy Kuma - Wrath Jinbe - Sloth Mihawk - Pride I disagree with Tekking on Doflamingo as wrath because I think he's more defined by the lost of his Celestial Dragon status, making him envy of them in some sort of way, and that leaves Wrath to Kuma who was called the "Tyrant", so I guess it would make sense.
Kuma is wrath because he is known as the tyrant Jinbe is pride because pride on him as knight of sea where despite warlord he have is honor Mihawk is sloth because he won't bother if he not feel like it Moria is envy he envy of kaidos crew
@@radamap7455 I feel like his “tyrant” epithet was applied by the world government as a way to demonize him, but idk. Your character analysis was very interesting though, I can def see Mihawk as sloth lmao
I like to think that Haki is like Nen in HxH. It’s a a skill that’s only taught to those who ready to face the new world. It’s beneficial to world that as few a people know about it as possible for both the government and pirates.
To be fair when Shanks met Whitebeard, it seemed like all of Whitebeard's weaker crew members didn't know about Haki either because they got confused when Marco warned them to stay away. The One Piece world seems to treat Haki as something to teach if you have natural talent for, like you said it's ambition and will power, if someone has enough of it, then I'm sure they'll be worth sharing this knowledge. Otherwise it just be easier to have someone grow with their own innate abilities instead, which is why I think most of Luffy's crew and even a lot of the Yonko's crew members hasn't fully developed haki yet.
In my mind, any character that damaged Luffy with blunt attacks in the pre time skip, knows haki. (Except for Nami because she is just blessed by Goda) I don't remember if Crocodile and Cp9 damaged Luffy with regular punches and kicks, so I can't tell for sure. I mainly remember Crocodile using his hook and Lucci using his claws and rokushiki. Another thing to remember - Rokushiki could just be a martial art that requires haki to be learned. Just like Ryou is a technique or a way to use haki in Wano, Rokushiki could also be a technique to use haki among the world government fighters. We just dont know enough about it yet.
For Nami, after haki was revealed I always interpreted her hurting Luffy as just having ridiculously strong will in how much she wanted to hurt him at that moment in time.
I always assumed that Tekkai and maybe Shigan were just very basic applications of armament haki. Also Kami-e seems like it might involve observation haki.
Luffy isn’t immune to blunt damage completely, if you hit rubber with enough force it can dent I imagine it’s the same for him, considering everyone has near super strength too
@@uranolodo3280 I'm not sure normal rules apply here since the one piece world is one where Magma is hotter that fire, even though it makes no sense. The immunity to blunt damage without haki, is the one thing that's good about the gomu gomu no mi. That's why I think he's immune. It could just be an unrealistically durable rubber.
In case of Cipher pol I guess it could be argued that firstly considering how rare devil fruits are in grand picture, for most of their potential assassination targets they don't need to know armament. Secondly haki is tied to strong will, you don't necessarily want your secret assassins be nothing more than pawns. Then there is also the thing how Luffy trains his haki/will in heat of battle. Marines and pirates face open combat, so there is opportunities to develop your will. Sneaky CP agents strike from shadows so there is less chances for that too. I guess Lucci and gang while running from marines wakened this potential to use haki everyone has and now they are a blade pointing in two directions in WG's hands.
They're deep cover operatives, fighting is the least they do. They had to have been taught a whole host of skills to blend in while not on job and training in haki on job would definitely make people suspicious.
I was always under the impression that since the straw hats didn't know haki, they just couldn't see it and it was being used by characters pre-time skip. Like Garp used it on his fists and that's why he was able o hurt fluffy even though we didn't see his fists turn black.
It's funny people only mention garp lol meanwhile there were all these very powerful and informative enemy's they were fighting who had devil fruits and huge organizations but they didn't know or used Haki it just doesn't make sense at all as the navy alone u would train every marine too see if they can use Haki u probably have too awaken it in battle but most people fight in one piece especially marines and pirates so how would no one of all these people know it but afterwards everyone knows it and everyone is using it it's just a plot hole but the show been running for so long and it's good people dont notice this huge plothole
@@walterlaten7662 if you actually watched/read one piece you would know haki did not darken the body pretime skip so hard to know when its used so this entire video is trash since no proof the characters in it did not have a basic level of haki even if they did not know about it.
Are you people for real? Listen, there's LEVELS to armament haki just like there's levels to Conqueror's haki. Haki is only visible when used at a high level, a high concentration. For instance when Luffy first used Conqueror's to knock out a bunch of people, that wasn't visible. But Zoro using it on his swords in the fight against King was visible like green lightning. Black armament haki is a similar thing. Basic armament is invisible. Good armament turns black.
When I was watching enies lobby for the first time (I already knew about haki because you cant really expect to not be spoiled about a 22 year long running story) it was really funny, imo, to see the members of CP9 act all high and mighty despite the fact that all of them combined would just die against any logia user,

Rayleigh said haki blooms in battle, I'm willing to bet that the SH were the first challenge CP9 ever really encountered in their lives, losing to the SH was probably the trigger they needed to unlock haki. before that I bet they never really had a tough fight in their lives. Maybe CP9 were taught about haki at some point because they might unlock it but just couldn't use it because they had no real ambition or goals of their own. they were essentially just pawns of the WG following orders blindly.
@Zero we don't know shit about the average marines, some people are predisposed to having strong haki when they are born, just look at Aisa from Skypeia. Maybe the marines all have goals to become admiral one day and that drives them to seek power faster than most marines or they had traumatic experiences that lead to the unlocking of haki like Koby during Marineford. Having ambition alone doesn't make you stronger though and just having haki doesn't make you strong, you clearly have to put in training. But its better than cp9 who seemed content in their positions/careers as assassins and already thought their current power was far superior to everyone, they might have killed plenty of people who had weak armament haki and though well this shits trash and never cared to learn. they spent 4 years living in water 7 playing at normal lives and jobs, they probably didn't feel they needed to be stronger, they were clearly wrong. You are correct you don't need ambition to have haki but ambition will help you get it. CP9 are just stagnant and you ain't getting shit like that.
The blooms during battle thing doesn't make much sense because Luffy didn't just awaken Armament and Observation Haki during battle, he had to train with Rayleigh for 2 years instead.
One thing to be said about all this is that Haki is just another tool in the arsenal. It has its uses, but isn't the be all and end all of a conflict. Lucci and CP9 were able to recreate most of its effects without ever learning it, and there are other devil fruits that can harm a logia type user. I'm also sure there have been plenty of people who tried to tell Luffy about Haki, "You know there are people who can hurt even you, rubber boy" "Yeah, haha! Like grandpa"
Although sun pirates relied more on being stronger than humans and being able to swim, they must've know about it. And Arlong was pretty high on the hierarhy. If Nami knows about haki just from hanging out with stronger crew members, Arlong should know about them. Not necessarily know how to use them, but he should knew about it. And I would argue Hachi should as well, and probably should mention that Haki exists to Luffy during Sabody. But then again, Sabody was very fast paced.
@@nihili4196 Fisher Tiger himself only had a 250 million beri bounty and Jimbei was like 50 or 100 mill, The next one in line would be Aladdin and only then Arlong. Arlong shouldn't know about haki IMO and he ran from The Grand Line so maybe he lost some of his potential
Though, it wouldn't surprise me if Arlong thought he didn't need Haki and thought his strength as a Fishman would be enough. I could totally see Arlong's pride blinding him from reality here.
When zoro fought Das bones he seemed like he was using observation haki like when he knew where his swords were even though they were buried under rubble
I dont think every marine officer knows haki. After marineford war, the doctor told Coby it was haki that makes Coby can hear all the pain and scream but Coby doesnt know it, so the doctor tell Coby to ask Garp about it.
im fairly certain that observation and conquers haki were both set up very early on, due to mantra, zoro sensing the breathing of things, and shanks in chapter 1. they might not have been fully fleshed out to the t at those points in the story, but the general idea of intimidation and sensing surroundings are clearly there from the beginning. however, I think that armament haki specifically wasn't set up at the time. the only evidence of armament haki before amazon lily is mihawks black sword, but that could have very easily just been a black sword design, that was later retconned into armamanet haki. that's why no one in CP9 had armament, or why crocus say anything. I'm pretty certain that Oda realized that logia devil fruits like smokers, aces, and crocodiles, were way to overpowered, and decided to make armament haki later. so the need to create armament haki came up in alabasta, and at that time it was simply a way to hurt logia users, and not anything more advanced then that. CP9 didnt use it since there were no logia df users in the straw hats. when oda was about to head to amazon lily, he decided to expand the use of armament haki to harm all df users, and that's why it became so important later on.
I think Zeff knows haki, I do remember vaguely that he was known as having a kick so strong, he could leave a footprint on steel and for the longest time I thought that Zeff taught Sanji the diable jambe and that's how he could leave his footprint on steel
@@TheElectriczil I think that, besides the 140 years lifespan of humans and the other obvious things, the world of one piece is pretty similar to our world so having a normal human leaving a foorprint on steel is quite the feat and I feel like pre time skip Sanji was probably not up to it.
He always called it the “fist of love” so maybe he was just waiting for Luffy and Ace to grow up and join the Navy to teach him Haki and tell him “do you remember the fist of love? Well this is how you do it” and the punch them with haki untill they learn how to do it
It could also be hard to learn as a kid even if Luffy was shown it he would still have to awaken it before he could even begin training. I’ve always thought as bc we mainly see the journey with luffy, we grow with him and learn about haki through him regardless on what’s going on with haki around the world. haki was more than likely used in marineford but we just couldn’t see it like luffy
With the anime extending the Roger vs Whitebeard pirates bit, it makes a lot more sense why shanks didn't take luffy with him as a cabin boy. He saw how watching the sky split shook buggy and didn't want to coinflip on what he would turn out like.
A Fanfic called 'This Bites' had some interesting explanations. Crocodile didn't want to use Haki on a rookie and his pride stopped him from using it when Luffy put up more of a fight, Buggy definitely knew haki but was keeping his head down and mostly sandbagged his abilities to live out as a big fish in smaller waters. Moria as well, but he was lazy and relied on others to fight until he went Kaijuu. Also rookies using Haki in paradise would likely have a vice-admiral hunting them down personally and any more would have Akainu going up and down paradise regularly.

I think you forgot about Zoro’s teacher, Koshiro. It looked like in a flashback during the Zoro vs Mr. 1 fight, Koshiro was trying to explain Armament Haki to a young Zoro. That’s how Zoro learned how to cut steel. Also, I really don’t think Haki’s something you can just teach. You have to awaken that ability first, then you can learn how to control it through lessons. Both Luffy and Zoro had awakened to the ability before the time skip. That’s why they could be taught. Sanji probably awakened to his while trying to escape the Okamas. Coby awakened to his ability during Marineford. Usopp awakened during Dressrosa. The CP9 probably didn’t have the opportunity to awaken until during Ennis Lobby when they felt challenged for the first time in their lives.
I think the CP9 knew Haki, they just didn't have a reason to use it (aside from Kalifa when she was fighting Nami but you could argue that she was still fairly arrogant in that situation before she suddenly got overwhelmed by the thunderballs)
It's true that Haki is a really important power, but it takes years to master it and Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji were already very strong for the first half of the grand line.

All of CP0, vergo, the gorosei and Imu would say otherwise.
Crocodile might have been one of the logia users that was so confident and depended on his devil fruit power that he never tried to improve in any other way
And he said he wasn't like other pirates because HE doesn't just depends on his DF. HE said that he trains and utilizes it to it's full potential.

Nah thats not what logia awakening is, there is no confirmed awakend logia oda prob has something special in mind for logia awkening

@@sugartoothYT Aokiji created ice by either freezing water, or coating the environment with it. We haven't seen him actually transform the environment into ice (on screen), like what Crocodile did.

It's basically so Oda can avoid showing training because for some reason he really hates writing training.

Yet Katakuri has haki when he's about to fight when he was a kid. Without known training at all.
The reason for CP9 not knowing haki could be Spandan's incompetence. Either a) Spandan thought if he made CP9 any stronger they'd stop listening to him. Or b) A higher up saw that Spandan was leading assassins and went, I don't trust him with haki assassins.
spandam was not the first leader of cp9
Being that Haki is invisible, they honestly could have been using it the whole time, it only started being visible after the timeskip

@@rain7122 How?
@@johnychrist5475 How?
@@HSuper_Lee Well most people post timeskip are from families like in dressrosa so they had instructors teaching them haki from a young age.
Or well now a days with two primary power systems.
before the grandline, the story made a point about how crazy dangerous grandline is. Crocus probably saw ton of pirates go to grandline then die in a few days.
they already knew about haki they were trained by vice admirals data books says lucci had haki just body parts not darkened pretimeskip.
About the Giants, Saul should have been able to use Haki, since he was a Vice-Admiral...and he's not from Elbaf
How do you know that he wasn't ? Just because a character doesn't flex his haki doesn't mean he doesn't have it
He probably did, but what was he gonna do against the actual admirals?
I mean the black sheen isn’t even supposed to be there. Its purely an aesthetic thing for the audience’s sake
Black Blades only exist because of Haki infusion
Just get over the issue that it IS a retcon.
Moving forward,
On the end of offensive tactics, its also entirely possible that the 6 powers are ultimately stronger than a base knowledge of haki when relating to both, Armament Haki with Iron Body, and Observation Haki with the dodging one i forgot what it was named.
Only downside with iron body is you can't move while using it unless you spend years mastering it like dude with the wolf type dog dog fruit.
The 6 powers are still relevant and are basically assassination tools like we say in wano/egghead. They even work on unsuspecting Haki users.
Again with Morgan, he only became a captain because he got lucky with Kuro right?
Yeah he got his hand cut off by kuro and then hypnotized to think he captured him and that's what gave him his rank

Zoro definitely used Haki against Mr. 1
I like the idea that the first Shishi Sonson was a use for Haki, I did want to see Zoro try it again in another form after Alabasta tho
The whitebeard pirates just went easy on the kids.

I'll be honest buggy using future sight observation haki with his devil fruit would make him op. He can just move his body out of the way.
He's gotta have it, he would of saw the straw hat and protected Luffy and possibly tested him to see what his devil fruit was now that we know it's the Nika fruit not the rubber fruit he could of went on his way to go with straw hat cause he always seems to be close by Luffy.
Buggy would just be Katakuri. That's why he was never taught it, Roger was afraid.
Coby was told after Marineford that Vice Admirals and above know how to use Haki, so captain Morgan should not, it requires a lot more dedication to train in than the fanbase likes to think
well it's kind of hard to imagine when you know characters like sabo/coby learn it in 2 years or less and you see every FODDER marine in dressrossa using armament haki
but yes it would require you to... probably train it specifically for a year or two, which would be a. hard when you don't know about it and b. hard to do when you're sailing on a ship, finding treasure, trying to find pluton, being the leader of a gang 24/7
yeah I mean I guess realistically 1-2 years of being taught it is kind of a tall task, but Rayleigh did say that some people unlock it right before their death, but end up dying anyways, so there might be a shortcut but only if you really think your life is on the line
yeah I guess putting aside 1-2 years from your goals of sailing the seas or w/e ur plans are is difficult, it's easy for marines who do nothing but train all day, or sabo who did nothing but train all day
I think it's just hard to comprehend that these absolute FODDER marines could learn haki and all of them have haki, but beasts of characters who can decimate them, and who SHOULD WANT TO LEARN HAKI, just don't learn it.
you'd think if u want to be a pirate/evil person and fight other people then you'd learn haki, but I guess not. guess it's easier said than done. like people who play league of legends for 5 years and still can't hit 90 cs+ a game if they try lmao hard stuck silver.
Crocodile no cap has one of the most creative ways to use his fruit.
A giant using haki well kaidos a thing
Maybe Crocus didn't want to destroy their dreams imagine Luffy wasn't strong enough to use Haki at the time and Crocus tells him he will die. He might have not told them about it because it is unlikely to need Haki on the first few islands. Don't forget that being followed by a Logia Navy officer and planning to fight a Sand Logia Warlord is something that not everyone gets to experience :P
He still was someone that should've known about haki and did not share Luffy or us that information. :)
@@Sertifi He probably didn't mention it because there was no time, it would have taken him months to teach Luffy haki, and Luffy wouldn't have been able to attain it without training.

Luffy and Sanji learned the 6 powers (it's arguable Luffy only knows Tekkai, Soru, Kami-e, but Rokuogan is a basically a specific form of advanced armament Haki)
Crocodile of course knows Haki and probably used it constantly throughout the arc, but he just applied it to his sand attacks, explaining why they are so freakishly strong for just being sand.
There's not a single example of Haki being a plothole if you understand that Haki was used but not shown all the time. Characters talk about Haki constantly, just not in the language of Haki, because the word "Haki" is not a universal term. "Wano" uses Ryuo, Amazon Lily uses "Haki."
This kinda make sense, most people assume that haki makes you invincible to normal attacks where what it really does is make you more resistant to damage
In the case of crocodile of course he knew haki but the elemental counter just made him weak enough to where Luffy could hurt him even with his armament active
People always forget that armament has levels
Weak armament exists like the kuja pirates and some low ranking officers of the Marines and cp9
Then there's people like Virgo, katakuri and kaido with very strong armament
Garp uses Love which is an interesting way to define his ambition to change the world and tells you A LOT about Garp as a person
I think he forgot to mention ACE, he was the one who could/should have told Luffy and his Crew about haki in Alabasta. He probably knew about it since he was the 2nd division commander of the whitebeard pirates and was mostly hanging out in the new world before going after Blackbeard of course.
My guess is that Ace knew that Luffy wanted adventure so he probably wanted his little brother to figure it out on his own.

I can't believe I just found this channel. I love how openly different you are. Real BirdKeeperToby vibes
TLDR:
It's very much believable that CP9 was not trained in Haki by the time of Ennie's Lobby because the WG just didn't have the time and resources to train a bunch of active agents in both super advanced martial arts and Haki, especially since they can always just call in a vice admiral to situations where Haki is needed.
Tekking, man, thank you for being you. Your pure excitement has gotten me thru more days than I can count recently. For a long time, the OP community and weekly chapters/epis are the highlights of my week and I can confidently say you and others give me life! Thank you for making me smile!

Yeah, like it's a good idea to give AMBITION to a bunch of assassins you don't have real allegiance or family to hold on to.
Because they dont serve the same purpose
Also haki blooms in warrior culture. Not the same as assassin culture. Or following orders culture that is the Marines/world government in general. Amazon Lily was a warrior culture and they all knew haki though only the sisters knew conquerors. Zoro learned a bit from training with mihawk and Sanji from new kamas also a warrior culture if an odd one.
@@Fallenangel_85 I MEAN ALL THE MARINE FODDER legit FODDER in dressrossa can all use haki, doesn't seem hard to teach or need aptitude for it. but I don't know.

Crocus was probably thinking:
Well, I've already told them about the log pose, that's exposition enough, I don't wanna be annoying
Nice pfp
@@thatguy7323 thanx, you too :D
Every Vice Admiral knows at least one type of Haki which makes Crocodile’s dominance in Marineford really weird.
@Zero powers scaling in ONE PIECE is hard in general because outside of his Gears Luffy is roughly the same strength throughout the pre-time skip era.

To me the best match ups would be:
Crocodile - Greed
Moria - Gluttony

I disagree with Tekking on Doflamingo as wrath because I think he's more defined by the lost of his Celestial Dragon status, making him envy of them in some sort of way, and that leaves Wrath to Kuma who was called the "Tyrant", so I guess it would make sense.
Kuma could be wrath because of his epithet "the tyrant" he may have somewhat of a split personality when he snaps or something.
Kuma is wrath because he is known as the tyrant
Jinbe is pride because pride on him as knight of sea where despite warlord he have is honor
Mihawk is sloth because he won't bother if he not feel like it

(Except for Nami because she is just blessed by Goda)
I don't remember if Crocodile and Cp9 damaged Luffy with regular punches and kicks, so I can't tell for sure.
Garp also hurt ruffy when they met
I don't know how it was there, but first day of autumn here in Missouri dropped from 95 to 70 and it was amazing
I’m not all the way caught up but don’t most of them know iron body? I thought that was actually armament haki
Pretty sure lucci is strong willed
@@apoggione8 Nah the 6 Powers and Haki are completely different things as far as we know
They're deep cover operatives, fighting is the least they do. They had to have been taught a whole host of skills to blend in while not on job and training in haki on job would definitely make people suspicious.
An assassin that gets in a fight is the worst possible assassin.
When I was watching enies lobby for the first time (I already knew about haki because you cant really expect to not be spoiled about a 22 year long running story) it was really funny, imo, to see the members of CP9 act all high and mighty despite the fact that all of them combined would just die against any logia user,
I unfortunately have nothing to say, as Hotori is already canonically capable of Haki.

I’m not joking buggy was with Roger Rayleigh and Oden for his life some of that greatness should have rubbed off on him
it did
Of course it rubbed off on him
What do you think all that crazy followers comes from?
Buggy D. Clown has the same power as Luffy having many people reach out to him.
I mean, Oden and Roger did die in a pretty cool way
Rayleigh said haki blooms in battle, I'm willing to bet that the SH were the first challenge CP9 ever really encountered in their lives, losing to the SH was probably the trigger they needed to unlock haki. before that I bet they never really had a tough fight in their lives.
@@AUselessGod and what did he do. fight really strong animals. the elephant brushed off a gear 2 punch like it is nothing.
@@AUselessGod He used observation haki against mihawk
One thing to be said about all this is that Haki is just another tool in the arsenal. It has its uses, but isn't the be all and end all of a conflict.
Lucci and CP9 were able to recreate most of its effects without ever learning it, and there are other devil fruits that can harm a logia type user.
I'm also sure there have been plenty of people who tried to tell Luffy about Haki, "You know there are people who can hurt even you, rubber boy"
"Yeah, haha! Like grandpa"
I honestly don't know if it sparked the idea for this video, but this answers a question I had on twitter a few weeks ago that you answered. Thank you
I imagine Arlong, Hachi, Kuroobi and Chew know about haki, being apart of the Sun Pirates.
But they weren't really the top guys there, Even Fisher Tiger barely knew about it lol
@@eVill420 there is absolutely no way Tiger assaulted Mariejoa on a whim without knowing haki
When zoro fought Das bones he seemed like he was using observation haki like when he knew where his swords were even though they were buried under rubble
Nah that was a swordsman thing not haki
Honesty I’d believe if Buggy just forgot
Or knew there was some sort of super powerful abilities the adults had, but just never paid attention to it anytime it was explained.
I'm pretty sure Sanji could probably do that without jaimbe pre TS and definitely after
@@TheElectriczil I think that, besides the 140 years lifespan of humans and the other obvious things, the world of one piece is pretty similar to our world so having a normal human leaving a foorprint on steel is quite the feat and I feel like pre time skip Sanji was probably not up to it.
he also kicked luffy so hard it hurt his rubber
Hell you'd think Garp would have taught Haki to Luffy when he was young 😂
I think all the training he did was for it but since Luffy escaped and left before he could be trained he never did.
All the characters who gained Haki have been shown to awaken it before they start their trainings the one exception is Sanji who never showed signs Haki before the timeskip.
@@JoseSanchez-yp5dp yeah how exactly did he learn haki pretty sure ivankov doesn’t know haki so how did sanji learn how to use it
Luffy took 2 years to learn it as a 17 years old why would he have learned as a 7 year old.
Buggy was not afraid of going back to the Grand Line. He actually was nostalgic to return when he decided to chase Luffy.
Yeah, dude knew exactly what it was and how to deal with it. The mystery is more dangerous than the actual danger.
Considering it's tekking this has to be the most mellow intro I've seen in 10 years from him

@@berserker5551 so monet without haki defeating tashigi (a haki user) is plot armor too ? lol
Y’know tekking when you started talking about dr. kuraha’s age, I just got a vision of her punching through reality to slam your head into the floor. Nice video, beware your dreams!
I would like to see a video of Tekking explaining all his theory’s that he made back in the day from the beginning of one piece to today.
The thing about haki in the pretimeskip is that there is plausible deniability with it.
- characts knew about it couldn't use it
- characters didn't know about it, but use it innately
- characters that knew about it, but choose to not use it
And there is instances of characters using attacks alluding to haki, aside from Shanks
Mihawk - Observation to deflect bullets
Zeff - Armament to stop bullets
Dorry and Broggy - Armament against Goldfish
PS: what if Rokushiki is actually haki, but in very specific application
Dorry and Broggy don't need haki to slice a goldfish, especially not when combining their power, but I have no doubt that they at least know of it
@@blastortoise the combination attack they used is haki based, knowing what we know today, from wano we learned armament haki can be projected from a weapon to create shockwave attacks.

ruclips.net/video/2Qi3Yvw4SWA/видео.html
@@pegasBaO23 The aura is the only thing that could be some part of haki. Shockwaves alone doesnt mean haki, if it did then Zoro learned Haki by Skypeia

Hyogoro talks about Ryou aka Armament haki and how it allows swordsmen to not cut paper, but also cut iron ruclips.net/video/BYIet2Dn_JQ/видео.html
You see Zoro utilize shockwave slashes only after his fight with mr1
After Zoro's training with Mihawk his cannon techniques get stronger, and pretty much all his techniques now release shockwaves
It's a retcon, to some extent, but Oda had developped the concept enough around the Alabasta Saga and was vague enough with it early on, that the retcon doesn't feel drastic
@@pegasBaO23 Yeah you could say thats haki, personally i dont
