This is part 4 of the full love story of Olivia Spencer (Crystal Chappell) and Natalia Rivera (Jessica Leccia) on Guiding Light.
This lesbian love story evolves over the course of 2 years of soap opera tv. The writers took the time for them to slowly go from hating eachother to loving eachother. Because of the writing and amount of time they shared the screens together, the characters and the story have a lot of depth to them. What you won't see a lot of in this compilation is physical intimacy. Back in 2008/2009 gay storylines in soaps were still a new thing and the network and sponsors where afraid of backlash. What the actresses couldn't show in physical affection though, they made up for in their very realistic portrayal of emotions, great chemistry and overall great acting. Together with the writers they've created a beautiful love story nonetheless.
This is the fourth part of their story that starts with "the kiss" in january 2009 and ends with the the wedding in april 2009. The blissful ignorance that characterized part 3 of this compilation is over. In this part Olivia and Natalia slowly come to realize how they feel about eachother and a lot of conflicting feelings arise that lead to a whole lot of stupid actions.
This video has some great angst and it includes some of Crystal and Jessica's best scenes, but the characters actions might leave you a bit frustrated.

I don't think there is a better love story. I think there is one I liked as much. It's a series that ended in 2002, so, well before GL. Jessie and Katie faced some of the same societal stigma that Otalia did, but not the religious complications. Their story was a slow burn, too, different, in part because of their youth and innocence. The compilation by Tonttu0 has nearly eight million views. I'm going to try to post the link, we'll see if it posts.

Crystal Chappell gave her heart and soul to this storyline. She was amazing. I've always loved her on every show she'd been on and yes, I'm going to admit I'm biased she's my favorite daytime actress, but this storyline finally gave Crystal the opportunity to show people who didn't know her how talented she is. I still love her performance and this story to this day. 💜

2:21:04 This is one of my all time favourite Otalia scenes. The way they are talking around what they want to say breaks my heart every time. Their performances are on point. Plus CC looks extra gorgeous - love her hair!
When Otalia talks to each other in the cemetery, it's masterclass. The performance of the actress who plays Olivia. It's so subtil, and the interpretation is so real. The timing when she says certain lines and starts to crack into tears (specially with the blue, new, borrowed thing). Also, the script is very well writes. The way she tries to chabge the subject, the way she says she loves her but directly said that Franck is more secure for her despite the fact that she can offers her a family and a home. I think she is the best actress on the show.
ahhh thank you. and honestly as frustrating as all the non-kisses were, crystal and jessica have always said that it actually helped them create a more realistic emotional bond between the characters. and they're right. and it's funny, because i'm usually not into enemies to lovers, but the progression of otalia from enemies to friends to lovers is really something special to watch. lightning in a bottle, and in my opinion, the best soap wlw ship of all time. i can't thank you enough for all your hard work in putting this together.
Yes, I’m sure it’s partially due to the limitations they got for this storyline, that they portrayed such a wonderful relationship. And even though the non-kissing seems more unnatural the more this story evolves, I would choose seeing this deep emotional bond between them over kissing any day. Every downside has it’s upside ha?
@@FlyingWitch1 i feel the same way. as great as it would have been for them to actually kiss more than once, the way the storyline was written and acted, they didn't need to kiss for the audience to feel and know they were in love.

I agree with you about the development of their relationships, the way it's realistic and that they are many way to show love. But it's right that I feel frustrated that they kissed only one time (and it's not in their real relationship as lovers) and then nothing more. Because you see that they care for each other (kiss hands, the looks at each other,...) but sometimes the atmosphere makes you feel (and make you need) an act more passionate as a kiss on the lips.
You're right enemies to lovers that's what happened in batwoman especially in season 3 in season 3 it kicked off I mean they pulled up in the season 3 in season 2 they were enemies and lovers #wildmoore and trust me that woman and Sophie would definitely enemies until they found out they were both gay oh trying to renew your gay membership
Thank you for putting these parts together. I never watched the progression of Otalia's love story. I love Olivia's character and her story. Crystal Chappell is a great actress.
I kept hearing about Otalia and randomly the RUclips algorithm suggested your videos and I went 'why not?' and started watching them not expecting much since this came out in 2008/2009. To say I've been blown away by the build up and thoughtfulness of their story is an understatement, they are one of if not the best slowburns I have seen. I'm just a teensy bit trepidatious since some comments mention there are some iffy storylines ahead for them but with these two I'm sure they will still turn out great.

14 years later and I’m still upset Crystal didn’t win the Emmy for that scene at the gravesite or when Olivia is standing there as Natalia is reciting her vows about love and we watch her soul crumble bit by painful bit. 🥺 Frank, bless his heart, looks so damn goofy. Jessica’s foot stomp during her love declaration in the middle winter wonderland always makes me giggle. 😂
I think Frank is so sweetly oblivious. He's the perfect unfortunate foil. I'm happy, as viewer, that Blake picked him up at the end.

Yes there are so many hours! Originally I thought I’d be done with 4 videos, but it will probably end up being 6 long videos in the end! And I’ve even deleted some individual olivia/natalia scenes that weren't relevant to their story.

Lol they did they just did a shit job of it. Most of her shots were basically chest up or behind a table there’s even one where the crack a joke about her pregnancy because she couldn’t reach something across the table and Olivia went “reaaach reaach!” And they started laughing
There was an old comment that had said because she wasn’t showing much they just threw cardigans and dark colors on her because it made it less obvious she was carrying but it just made people laugh more because Natalia doesn’t wear cardigans and flats😭

Frank is so clingy, but I have a much harder time with the way he constantly speaks for her. When he proposed he said i know what you want and everything after that has been we want, we think as if they were one person. He never asks her what she feels or thinks , ever.
I also don’t know why Natalia did the spiritual work of recognizing she slept with him only to run away from something , recognized that truth after all the aguish and prayer and then proceeded to recreate the same problem on a larger scale.

Gosh so we aren't getting rid of Frank for the last two parts based on that ending?? I was really hoping Natalia would FINALLY tell him she doesn't love him, but apparently she does if what she said about him to Liv is true.. Then apparently her feelings for him changed which must be due to all the ways Olivia was helping him in "wooing" her (otherwise I see no reason why Natalia would suddenly love him). I'm soo annoyed he didn't tell Natalia the truth of their dates earlier, especially that hamburger one at the farmhouse when he took full credit for EVERYTHING from the idea itself to the dishes😑😑

There were so many times I was so frustrated at him that I couldn't help but give him the finger (/-s) or pretend to strangle him through the screen lol. Furthermore - often at the same time - I would complain and curse at him at 2 in the morning.. Clearly I take these shows very seriously😅
Right?! And probably the saddest thing is that he is sooo pathetic. Like the fact that he needs help to get someone to date him and to give a good impression bcs doesn't himself know what she likes although has known her for a long time (actually reminded me of Verbotene Liebe when Hanna's dude didn't know what would be an x-mas present she would like and asked Carla even tho he similarly had known Hanna a waaay longer, AND then likewise takes full credit for the gift.. what's wrong with men??). Also the way he was so persistent to get her to love him, yet she didn't say the three words to him no matter how many times he said them; she never said them back, not even in her vows lmao. By the time of the wedding, at the very latest, it should have been clear to him (and everyone else) that Natalia isn't IN love with him and never will be but despite that his pitiful self just keeps pushing. The self-respect is non-existent and it's not a good look imo

Does it bring up a lot of questions when it comes to the storyline? I’ve tried to edit this stuff in a way that there isn’t too much unnecessary uninteresting stuff that isn’t vital to the story, but I’ve also tried to look at it from the perspective of someone who knows nothing about this show or storyline. The last bit is difficult though when you yourself do know the show and all the storylines in a soap are so intertwined. So I’ve been wondering if there are parts of the storyline that are difficult to follow when you watch it without background information. If so, I’d like to know.

@@each6002 Well yeah haha that's rich influential people on soap opera's for ya, they never stay in jail for long haha. There weren't any scenes that I cut there really, they probably were scenes about that but not that I've found and most likely not very Otalia related. But I do see how weird that must look haha. At least Olivia talked to philip in that scene and said that he got out on bail, so at least we know what's going on.
I'm glad you are following along. There's always more stuff that I could add, but especially when it comes to Rafe/Frank, I'd like to keep it to a minimum because they annoy the hell out of me. If Natalia and Olivia's relationship isn't mentioned in any way and it's not needed for the context -> it get's deleted. Just can't deal with it haha.
