So, other than the motivation to treat hear loss, what is the take-away? The take-away in my opinion is that there should be heavy pressure on medical insurance companies to cover the treatment of hearing loss. Period. Hearing loss treatment is not like cosmetic surgery. It is not some elective procedure without which one can live productively. This study and lots of lobbying should be in the face of our elected officials to do something about the coverage of hearing treatment by health care insurance.
Maybe someday the data will be strong enough so health insurance companies will pay for hearing aids because it actually saves them money by helping to ensure healthier subscribers.
@@Elephantine999 people often have health insurance policies with a $10k deductible, so patients are still being asked to pay for insurance AND care.... That's why I often think of insurance as going to the grocery store with coupons.
They never intended to try to find a cure for hearing loss. We are all lab rats to them.
The real cause is probably proactiveness vs stubbornness. A person who is more proactive about their health in general will tend to live longer on average. That proactive person will also tend to be more likely to treat their hearing loss and consistently wear hearing aids.
That sounds like a good point.
I've known I had hearing loss for years. But the dementia link spurred me to action. I felt my memory has been deteriorating for some time, so decided now is the time.
Interesting presentation. Thanks for passing this along.
Sir Thank you for detailed information.
0bviously, hearing is pivotal to health, as is seeing, yet medicare & many insurance plans cover neither. Inability to hear is not only isolating, but if someone were to break in my house, i wouldn't hear them. I cannot hear my blinkers, or hear my car running. I cannot hear water running.
Im a huge believer, AND I am allergic to my hearing aids.
What about people who are profoundly deaf and using other types of communication, such as sign language?
well wish me luck I'm getting fitted for mine on Thursday
I got hearing aids two years ago. My audiologist has tried repeatedly to tune them with no success. They squeal and hiss and scramble everything together. These are top of the line $6000.00 pieces of crap. If that's the best the industry can do, those of us who have hearing loss are just going to die early. Enjoy the money or put it in the layaway plan at the mortuary.
Same thing with me 6000 dollars makes things louder I can't understand people
I bought 2, one for each ear which cost $9000 Aus $$$ for the pair, if you pay that much you expect nothing the best I'm in the same situation, why is it that these audiologist or so called professionals can't seem to dial in my aids it's a joke and so disappointing I'm seriously thinking of going Cochlear and truly hope this will give me the freedom to hear like I use to
I had not heard this before.
I would be curious to know if there was a difference in specific types of deaths?
How can you tell if you buy phoak lumity 90s if they are what you bought? Are they marked with 90?
Just wondering
Just don't want them switched with say 70s
Tem algum remedio em pesquisa para curar a audição???
OK, so consistency with having hearing aids on is key here (I have somewhat older model hearing aids, probably going to renew soon, so I might be unaware of some advances, but here's my take). Youth and young adults spend a considerable amount of their time on the PC for work and e.g., gaming, myself included. One would think hearing aids manufacturers and Microsoft would promote native hearing aids compatibility as well as Apple and Android have been doing. For me, a headset remains the best (and only?) choice for gaming and none of the headsets I have tried, do not work well with my hearing aids, so I just use the headset without hearing aids at all. And because of this, I don't really feel like putting on my hearing aids on unless I go out. I love the compatibility that works well with my phone, but I miss this connectivity with my Windows PC.
I appreciate this video, very informal and kind of frightening and eye-opening, as I probably fall into the demography of people in the higher risk-zone.
Anyway, sorry for the lengthy comment, I just wanted to share my thoughts.
I have Bluetooth hearing aids. I added a Bluetooth USB dongle to my desktop PC for less than $20 bucks. I now connect directly to my PC. Another though more expensive option is a HA manufactures TV connector. They work from an optical cable. If you PC has an Optical jack, mine does, you can use the TV connector on your PC as well and the sound is PERFECT. good luck
@@gbkworf Ahh, yes. I've used a dongle before, but I wasn't really amused by its sound quality. Connecting the HA to my iPhone provided better sound. Haven't heard about TV connector and I will have a look at it! Thanks :)
But what I truly crave for is a native compatibility, though.
@@OddiM I review police videos for a local police department. I use my TV connector. The sound is PERFECT. As for Iphone, Phonak destroyed my ability to talk on my phone with a Sept. 2023 Firmware update. My audio is always distorted. 8 months now, still waiting for a fix. Every call I must change the audio from the HA back to my Iphone speaker which gives me perfect audio. Been getting horrible customer service. What's worse, my AUD has also been getting horrible customer service from Phonak as well. I have a follow up in a couple of weeks with my AUD and Phonak will be there. I hope this one does more than the last time they were there and then proceeded to do NOTHING!
I wear hearing aids. When I am gaming, I have found that my Turtle Beach Elite Pro fits around the hearing aids. I have no problem with wearing the headphones along with wearing my hearing aids. I would think the hearing aid app on my phone and a Bluetooth dongle on my desktop PC would be fighting over on which device gets priority. The Turtle Beach headphones do a great job with listening to music as well. My studio headphones for recording and listening to music are a little smaller, so it interferes with my headphones. But ever since getting my hearing aids, I prefer listening to my guitar playing through my amps now because I get the full sound tone.
Dear Dr Cliff,
I do feel that you videos offer valuable subject matter, however...
I can never get through watching any of your videos. With all due respect, your video production I find to be annoying. My impression is that you appear to be unnaturally animated and the quick camera zooms are a further turnoff. My advice is to tone it down, be natural, and calmly convey the message. I feel that the hyper production style is better suited for children rather than adults and seniors.

His in-your-face videos is like those big signs that stores plaster on store windows in huge letters that say GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. His way of getting our attention is obnoxious. I loved Dr. Cliff's videos when I first started watching him over two years ago ... I hung on every word he said ... now? No way, not anymore, Sorry.
Good grief. Stop this stuff. I suppose you do sell hearing aids.
Agree , he's a money monger!
May I know why you hate people who sell hearing aids? Did you or someone who you know had a bad experience? Are you even aware that hearing aids are mostly the only option to treat hearing loss? Is your thought about an optometrist the same?
They aren't just "selling hearing aids". It's about hearing health which has broader aspects than just the piece of gear.
@@minjim13 Would you pay $150-200 for a hair cut? $300-1000 for hair color? How much skill do you think is required for this? Hearing treatment is a medical profession and hearing devices did not come out of thin air.. a lot of research and technology goes into developing them. Audiologists spend 6-8 years in education and yet, to make it affordable for everyone audiologists try to forgo their worth and heavily undercharge.
