Got mine at the age of 27, a couple years into being married (no kids). Had the same concern about chronic pain but haven't had any issues. I went for what I thought was just a consultation and ended up getting the procedure done that day. Basically no pain during the surgery, just from the needles applying the anesthesia. Took a week before I was going on long walks with my dog again, and only two or so before I was back to biking and running. Overall I'd tell people any worries about pain, recovery, etc. shouldn't be worries at all. Sorry to hear you had a more difficult experience!!
I got mine July '21 (Age 26) with Australian Vasectomies in Newtown. I'm a hard antinatalist and vegan, there is no good reason to pro-create. I had no complications whatsoever other than the normal post op care. Good on you mate!
I’m actually gutted I didn’t think to do this lol, but glad you did man! Legend! Was looking forward to you posting this. Great video! I had some lumps too like you mention but they went away after a while and they weren’t painful.
I'm honestly surprised at how much worse it seems to be for men in sterilization. I had my tubes removed almost two years ago now, and it was the smoothest recovery I could have imagined for an invasive procedure requiring anesthetics. I think the duration of recovery was longer-lasting (three months to feeling 100%), but it was overall an easy experience for me personally. I know everyone handles differently in these situations, but the discrepancy of pain and healing turbulence between the sexes regarding our reproductive organs is something I find very fascinating.
Congrats! Infection + Covid definitely sucks, but great that you are up and moving and things are finally on the upswing. I'm hoping to have coverage to have mine done later this year. I hope the recovery process continues to go well!
Congrats! Glad you recovered quickly. I did mine in the UK a year ago (for free from the NHS, although it took a while to find a surgeon willing to perform the procedure). I think it was "no-scalpel" vasectomy. The procedure itself was uncomfortable but not too painful (although I'm definitely sensitive to pain in general). Perhaps adrenaline and positive expectations helped w/ reducing the pain :) I took no painkillers afterwards, as I didn't need them, and didn't take any days off (I worked remotely). No complications as far as I know. Would do it again as well 🙃
Hell ya dude I also got mine done a few weeks ago too, we might have had them within a few days of eachother haha. Mine had zero complications and I was without pain at 10 days in. The worst part was having to drive myself back in heavy heavy traffic 😂 Side note I started reading the culture series on your recommendation with Consider Phlebas. I found it pretty hard to get through cause I didn't like the plot or the characters but found the worldbuilding fascinating. I've been reading online about how some of the things I didn't like were intentional by Banks and that CP is one of the worst out of the series so am defenitely going to read another, maybe Use of weapons or Player of games.
Oh driving yourself back doesn't sound fun! I don't think I would have been able to do that. I'm excited to hear you're reading Culture! Player of Games was my favourite. Hope you enjoy it!
So you've just had your first anniversary-ish. Assuming you're still happy and no regrets. Had mine at 22. Didn't have the setbacks you did (bummer!!) so recovery was rather uneventful. Knowing what I know now I'd do it all over again. Absolutely no regrets.
I'm sorry to hear about your chronic pain. The risk of PVPS is why it took me so long to get one, but I eventually decided it was worth the risk for me.
Surgery is surgery; it's normal to feel trepidation. Glad you came through it OK. I don't know why they didn't drug you to the gills, as pain trauma slows healing, but maybe it's different in Australia, land of he-man drovers and boxing 'roos. Thanks for documenting this for the curious, and I send best wishes for great health and good experiences in 2023!
Sounds like you had a tougher time of it than I did. Not much pain, short or long term. I didn't even have to shave myself. It's now been 36 years for me, from 1987.
I had a no needle no scalpel open ended vasectomy. Had it done with VasectomyPro in Spanish Fork, Utah, I watched the whole procedure, and left one tiny hole, less painful than giving blood! Sorry to hear you had problems. What did your procedure entail? What did you cry about?
It was no scalpel, open ended. I was doing well and was feeling no pain until a very sharp pain for a second that startled me. I started crying shortly after that, but I don't think it was from the pain per se. It's hard to explain, but I think it just made me emotional, and once I started I couldn't stop until I started using the Penthrox (green whistle).
Nice!! 🙌 But I have to say that your story is actually the first I've come across with this "many" problems. I can see how some men will have second thoughts, as from what I've read, they are already hesitant getting something done down there. But I didn't experience pain, the "worst" was the needle penetrating the skin 😂 I didn't take any painkillers, so that should tell you something... I did walk like I crapped my pants, because of the swelling, I was worried it would hurt haha. Some minor discomfort on my right side, but that went away and was really only a problem if I abstained from ejaculating. So I guess that would be filed under luxury problem lol Also, I want to add to any man reading this: no, it's not "castration" (yea some still think it is) and it's not like turning off a tap; the swimmers only make up a tiny portion, and you won't notice a thing! But in the end, it is surgery, even if it's a small and quick procedure, like 20-30 mins, you should rest and take care of yourself! ✌
It would be cool if other people who had a vasectomy shared their experience here too!
Congrats on joining the club!
Thanks :)
Congratulations planning on having one done too

Haha, more people should do this I think. It's cool to look back on the documentation. And thanks!
thanks for documenting your experience

great video and you are a great man
Go you!!!! What a fantastic and honest recap of your experience. Proud of ya ❤️
Thank you. You helped make the process so easy

Thank you! I'm very much back to normal now. I hope your procedure goes well and there are no issues!

Sounds like your procedure was quite a bit smoother than mine. Thanks for sharing!
That's awesome, congrats! I hope you're recovered and well now.
Thanks, I'm fully recovered and back to my normal life now!
🙌🏼 Congrats!
Glad to see more men being responsible and getting this done. Birth control for women has so many awful side effects, including death.
Im also a little over a week into my bilateral vesectomy recovery. Going well. No issues.
Day 8
Worst part was the shots. And ots not that painful during recovery so long as you take it easy as recommended by your doctor.

Congrats on the vasectomy and glad the infection went away...

Congratz
I decided not to get one due to risk of PVPS. I've suffered from chronic pain for 15 years; it's awful. Don't want to add more pain to my life.

Is vasectomy reversible
Not at a 100% success rate, but yes. Successful reversal gets less likely the longer it has been since surgery.
