This just happened to me and when I called the 877 the person who answered had an Indian accent. When I said I didn't feel comfortable speaking to someone with an accent and asked to speak to someone from the US he said in a defensive tone that he didn't have an accent but a speech impediment. 😅 That was enough for me to know he was a scammer so I hung up.

I just got my computer locked up by same. Indian accent - and when I said that my computer was Acer, he did not know it! He was hezitant on a number of points, and though I went with it, he eventually hung up. I don't know if he stole anything. In the past month, I got 3 phone calls - people with speech impairment with bizzare requests - I hung up. I wonder what is behind these speech impaired calls?

This same story happened to me., dont tell anyone, transfer my money to keep it safe, mole in my bank. The only thing that woke me up was the fact the scammer wanted to "transfer" my money to a Bitcoin machine. I hung up, called my bank immediately and had computer company check out my computer. Very frightening.

I’m surprised how come rebooting PC didn’t help close the stuck scammy web browser tab, usually it can be closed easily with Ctrl+w (close tab even in full screen mode) or Alt+F4 (close the browser completely) keyboard shortcut. So it looks like some drive by downloads added a startup link to re-launch the browser and re-navigate to the same address every time when the victim’s PC was rebooted.
Anyway for some reason the victim failed to try the safe boot mode, that could be efficient enough to help get rid of the intrusive startup scamware.
