Here's a tip from a PC Repair person: When that Microsoft window pops up, either press or hold the ESC button. It then reverts back to normal view mode. Exit the browser, then go back in. DO NOT RESTORE ANY PAGES. Go to settings and clear cookies and cache. Make sure to toggle the drop down menu to "For all time". It goes without saying, do not call the phone number. If you give them remote access, it bypasses any antivirus software you have on the computer, because it's akin to opening the front door for a burglar. The scam happens after you make 1st contact. The phishing redirect is usually from cached data which is why it's recommended to keep your browsing history regularly maintained. Also make sure to have a good popup blocker extension activated. Most important tho: Don't contact any phone numbers.
As a Cybersecurity guy myself, I appreciate you posting these for others. Easy for them to understand and to the point. This in an ongoing battle. We must stay vigilant.
Hi Julie …nice to see some more scammer videos. It would be really cool if BBB participated in the people’s call center next year with Scammer Payback. One of the big bosses from Anydesk was there this year and he was calling scammers with the guys, he even live-streamed a couple of scambaiting sessions.
My favorite thing about this video is that it's about scammers and exposing them. then during the RUclips ads it's telling me about my $6400 government check I can qualify for that's clearly a scam.
I'm in the UK (England), and I've had the courtesy of actual phone-calls from people claiming to be from MS security services. I think they're as commonplace over in Europe as they are in the USA. I really appreciate these educational scambait videos. I watched many of others. Lots of scambaiters are really good with computers. They told the victim to remove the remote control software. That is the way to prevent them to reconnect to the victims PC.
Once they get connection with the 1st remote software. They can install other remote control software what you do not see. That is what a lot of scam baiters do not tell you. If you do connect to these scammers just removing the 1st ultraviewer or anydesk, does not guarantee that the scammers do not still have access to your computer, and unless you are computer savvy, you will still need to take your computer to a reputable computer shop.
Restoring the entire system wipes it all out. I have done that many times before but more for other reasons. I got help from PC world over the phone as I have insurance with them. They did it themselves without asking me every time I brought my computer to them for other repairs.
It can be scary to get one of these pop-ups which make your computer unresponsive, especially as they usually include a warning not to restart your computer. When this happened to me, I was shocked but I realised it was a scam and I did not phone the number. Instead I held down the power button to turn off the computer. When I turned it back on later the pop-up had disappeared and everything was working normally again.
Yes. Just turn off the computer, restart. If it doesn't fix it, keep doing that. Eventually it will unlock and the computer will work again. These sites should be sued for harassment and time wasted by its victims.
I just loved the word salad answer she gave, when you started asking probing questions. Also I work in IT, and have called Microsoft many times. I have spoken to people in America. No one was in Washington.

Another red flag is the scammer often having two first names, often one male and one female (Sara Charles) since they don't know which American names are male and female.

What you do after you ask where they are located and they give you a bogus answer, you ask them *what time it is* where they are now. And have them answer quickly. You'll either get a frantic answer or a hangup right at that point. Also, when you are done with the scammers, ALWAYS make them hang up first. That way the call costs them money, which won't happen if you hang up first.
A scambaiter I follow asks where they are, and if they say California, for instance, he follows up with, "Is that eastern or mountain time zone?", and when they invariably answer wrong he lays into them. 😂😂
I got that pop-up and it disabled my screen. I knew it was as a scam so I didn’t click any links. I brought up task manager and shut it down. It was a well made scam because I couldn’t get rid of it unless I clicked on it. Luckily, I’m computer savvy.

I keep all of my files and downloads on portable and external hard drives. I keep only the programs on the PCs and maybe a few saves of something I am working on (with a backup on portable drives too). That way if something happens to a PC, all of my important data is on separate hard drives. Make sure you have a backup and be very careful with portable hard drives. They can be delicate, especially if dropped or handled roughly. In the old days, I would even burn some (data, photos, files, music) on CDs/DVDs as backups before the external and portable drives were able to handle larger files. With all the scam baiters out there now, news, and documentaries available to everyone, I'm still shocked to find so many people still falling for these things. Romance, lottery, and computer scams are the most common, but there are so many other ways people can get cheated.

My mom fell victim to an Amazon scam and she doesn't even have an Amazon account. I have repeatedly explained to her to be aware of digital scammers and they'll say anything to get your money. If you let them get access to your pc, you don't have to destroy anything. Just unplug the network cable. Or, if you use wifi, turn off the pc, turn it back on and don't connect to the wifi. They can't use your device if it has no connection to the internet. Depending on how far they got, just uninstalling anydesk or whatever they used to get initial access is not enough. But nothing that can't be fixed. Even if they changed your password, there are ways to get it back. Ask someone you trust to check the PC. Don't allow them to mess with you!
When you give the scammers in India a hard time they can eventually get pretty vulgar. Some will admit they are scammers and brag about it. It`s sick out there. Lying becomes a way of life for them.

The prevention against such inconveniences is relatively simple. you create a boot stick with rufus, the image you put on the stick is Hiren's Boot PE, which is a bootable Windows 10 from the stick with some tools like Macrium Reflect...which you should also install on your computer. Then make sure that the system partition is clean, that is, with all the programs installed that you need. Then use macrium reflect to create an image of the partitions needed to start the operating system, the selection is made automatically by Macrium Reflect when you select the appropriate option. If the box is now contaminated, boot from the boot stick, start Macrium Reflect and restores the clean installation...done. I always create new images as soon as something has changed in the system, I do this every day, it takes about a quarter of an hour (SSD) for my installation, about 100GB in total, and it's worth it to me. Thanks for Your good work! P.S.: If for some reason the partition table of the boot disk has been damaged, additional measures are necessary to restore it. There are also tools for this on the Hiren's Boot PE.
When whey would call and tell me they were from Microsoft and tell me there was a problem with my computer. I would tell them I didn't have a computer. They would insist that I did and that I was lying lol. Nasty like haha
I like when they want you to take a picture of a receipt or cash, and the scambaiters say they don't have a cell phone, the scammers tell them "before you go to the bank, you need to go buy a cellphone" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 As if... smh.
The problem with these scammers is that they have a script, some wrote this for them because they have a very low grade of education, this scammergirl really believes she is from Microsoft but in real life they never heard of the real company, and also their Hindi accent most trigger us that they are not real ! Never let them f…….up your computer because they do not know what to do with it ! 😂
Another telltale sign was difficulty in spelling Redmond and when she repeated the address skipped over the city name. I doubt she was able to pronounce it.
It might be worth noting that to be in the BBB, you have to pay them, so it’s essentially a pay for play organization. It doesn’t mater if you’re a reputable company, it’smatters that you pay them, for them to tell you.
That’s not true. While there have been some issues in the past with a few BBB offices ,that’s not how the BBB works. When taking an application for membership, there are very stringent criteria that have to be met in order to become a member. Also if a member breaks the rules they can be denied membership and taken off the rolls. That’s what happened to Mike Lindell, the My Pillow guy. He was required to amend his TV advertising and refused ,so he was no longer able to remain a member and had to take the BBB logo off of his adds.

6:43 She would hold more credibility if she said we connect to your pc and conduct a voodoo ceremony
When you give the scammers in India a hard time they can eventually get pretty vulgar. Some will admit they are scammers and brag about it. It`s sick out there. Lying becomes a way of life for them.
If you heard about the roma or the gypsie poeple in europe they originated from india they are the mosted hated poeple so now that you realise the scammers lie is a way of life in india well now you know why the so called roma poeple are most hated
I don't know about "becomes", they are always at it.
Dabloo dabloo dabloo dot.😅😅😅 These scammers don't even know the phonetic alphabet.
Excellent Job Julie and I enjoy all your wonderful videos and excellent work

Hahahaha, the dubloodubloodubloodot dance.
Julie - the REAL Wonderwoman!
I like how ALL of these supposed "Microsoft" employees, have the HEAVY Durka Durka accent. 🤣🤣🤣 Makes me laugh everytime I hear it!
"MY NAME IS JOHN SMITH."
@@DVincentW BWaHahaha! 🤣🤣🤣
West Bengal. Kolkata india. Yep
"remove hackers and walruses, then do 2 to 3 scamming" lol
Hottest scambaiter yet
My experience has been when ever people are overly polite, their usually up to something.
Nice work!!!
"Doub-loo Doub-loo Doub-loo..." 😄
I heard an Indian scammer yesterday who could pronounce W properly, and was blown clean off the map. Guinness Book material right there
Someone's gotta get 'em and say 7 James Bond? after that 😆😆😆
What!!! You did not delete their computer.... Or bring down their scam centre! Sad!
Microsoft scammers answer when Microsoft Customer Service is Googled> Be aware.
Ah, yes. Redmond, Philadelphia. I’ve been there many times.
You are an amazing actress! Is that your academy award behind you (on our left)? I’d believe it! Insta fan here and subbed. All the way from BC 🇨🇦! Edit: and nice nails 😊
I wish you would do it more often. Julie is so good in it 😂
Why go through all this to remove the hackers, when you can just run the TREE command a few times yourself 😆😆😆
Almost forgot, you have to run Netstat first to identify all the hackers
@@billg7205 if the hackers aren't already 'Listening" your conversations(sic), they are 'Close and Waiting' 🤣
play some minesweeper while you "wait" lol
Thankyou so much this is invaluable!
When whey would call and tell me they were from Microsoft and tell me there was a problem with my computer. I would tell them I didn't have a computer. They would insist that I did and that I was lying lol. Nasty like haha
I like when they want you to take a picture of a receipt or cash, and the scambaiters say they don't have a cell phone, the scammers tell them "before you go to the bank, you need to go buy a cellphone" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 As if... smh.
Tell them you were watching pornography when they ask what you were doing when your computer was blocked. Say you were watching their mother.
Good work Julie
The problem with these scammers is that they have a script, some wrote this for them because they have a very low grade of education, this scammergirl really believes she is from Microsoft but in real life they never heard of the real company, and also their Hindi accent most trigger us that they are not real ! Never let them f…….up your computer because they do not know what to do with it ! 😂
You should have said your name was Judy bloom. Lol
Goat herders are now computer experts 😂
They usually have an Indian accent (from India). They don’t sound American at all.
Destroy all of the scammers.🎉🎉🎉
Another telltale sign was difficulty in spelling Redmond and when she repeated the address skipped over the city name. I doubt she was able to pronounce it.
It might be worth noting that to be in the BBB, you have to pay them, so it’s essentially a pay for play organization. It doesn’t mater if you’re a reputable company, it’smatters that you pay them, for them to tell you.
But not to scammers who blatantly abuse the BBB logo!
17:12 Unusual, usually it's threats, getting demanding, and eventually swearing if they can't get anywhere
It was refreshing to see Julie use her own voice rather than using Google voice changer, as some of these other scambaiters I follow do. Definitely a much appreciated and different approach to dealing with scammers.
I have never seen one of these pop-ups, they must be local to the US. Only had 'Microsoft' cold called me once, had them hanging in there for about an hour or 2, then they realized it wasn't a windows machine. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
