- I kept seeing a campaign style black woodgrain finished side table on the Williams Sonoma website. While this style of night stand is not specifically Campaign style - it has a similar shape and who doesn't want a 3 drawer night stand? It was refinished in General Finishes Black Gel stain on an Oak Veneer. I'm pretty sure this is now my favorite stain color on oak. Subtle wood grain popping through with variations of black. This could likely be replicated with a black wash (diluted black paint) or black milk paint as well. So many options!!

Here’s a tip when hand sanding grooves and beveled edges..
Take your folded piece of sand paper and wrap around a credit card or plastic scraper and it just helps keep pressure even on the different sides and angles and also helps with thumb and hand cramping. I really enjoy your videos!

I actually missed out on a really cool curved yellowy oak veneer console table recently. I just didn't have a vision for it and now I am just disappointed I didn't get it. There will be more though. Thank you Clyde!

I thought one of the great things about the GF Gel Stain is that you don't need to sand original piece, but just do a scuff sand. Can you explain why you did it the way you did? Thank you.
In this case it would have been layering overtop of an orange tone, and the tone would still come through. If it was a brown it may have worked a bit better. Hope this helps!

If only my hand did have a dust collector attached, oh the things I would do. I'd probably annoy my kids and husband swiping my hand at them at every turn.
I love the way it came out. The handles are unique. Where did you get the heron picture? My daughter loves them.
I found them at Home goods. There were two of them. I paid $50 bucks for each one. It hurt, but I was really drawn to them. I figure I will look at them everyday so its worth it. If I had built in hand dust collection probably annoy everyone too 😆. 'Hey look at this!!!'

There is actually a 'Charcoal' stain I have. I want to say its varathane brand, that I almost used on it. On the can it seems to be pretty dark so I may try that on oak in the future. Thanks Noralee!
