My mom so badly wanted to see them live but the 4 times she tried fate intervened.
And by fate i don`t mean "oops sold out" or "dang concert cancelled" i mean almost dying in a car crash, mother in law actually dying of cancer, getting stranded in 5ft of snow from a freak snow storm nobody predicted in the middle of nowhere and the one time she actually got as far as buying tickets she gets robbed and stabbed on the way to her car to drive to the concert.
She was not meant to see them live.

You should listen to Love You To Death...yes, it's gothy, but also romantic and sexy. And not heavy. Cuz TON can get heavy and gritty, too.
And just a personal note, I always hung out w the guys when they played the west coast, and Peter Steele was a very sweet, funny guy. I miss him all the time.

Type O is one of those bands that doesn't take themselves that seriously. The lead man is/was Peter Steele. He was known to be a hopeless romantic. Much of their music is borderline satirical. Black #1 is the hair dye. Goth girls won't leave the house with the roots of their hair showing. "Dye is black...black #1" I highly recommend "Christian Woman" and "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend". Carnivore - "Retaliatiion" is one of my all time favorite albums and was where I was introduced to Peter Steele. The brief guitar solo at 3:53 in "Ground Zero Brooklyn" is one of my favorite from any band and any song, it grabbed me the first time I heard it and it has never let go. One of the band members of Type O Negative was asked why Steele changed his style and the music and he replied that it was 100% because of women, lol. He said that the chicks loved the style and look and that was the motivation for Type O Negative, lol.

These guys had the best senses of humor. Never thought of themselves as great artists but they defined goth metal in the late 90's and early 2000's.
Peter Steele had an incredible voice. A natural bass with a 2 1/2 octave range and the music is the epitome of what goth metal should be. Atmospheric, personal, achy, dark, and beautiful. The melodies and harmonies Peter Steele wrote are insanely good. A few songs off of Bloody Kisses, the entire October Rust album, and many more after are just musical gems.
I have such great memories surrounding listening to them and going to see them. They were a part of who I was in my 20s. I proposed to my wife on the El on the way to see them play with Cradle of Filth and Moonspell at the Riv in Chicago. Peter Steele gave darkness to the world when alive and a noticeable diminishment to it in his passing. I will never forget him. RIP Peter.

Gothic has origins in the medieval “dark ages” and refers to the Germanic Goths. In the early 80’s there was a goth movement in music with bands like Bauhaus. In the 90’s there was a big vampire fad and goth culture sort of erupted from that.
This song, literally about hair dye. Most goths died their hair black and would not go it if their roots were showing.
Type O are a super clever band and have a dark sense of humour. My fave song of theirs is Love You to Death.

I think its a post-breakup song because early in the song he's talking about how they're all about to go out on the town but her roots were showing so she called off their plans to re-dye her hair. So I think he's kinda sick of her.

“Loving you is like loving the dead” in this context is a Pearl gem of a compliment. Re-listen, the witchy/goth woman described is dark, broody and even “smells like burning leaves” (Halloween or incense/frankincense) Antithetically, a woman of “God” would smell like roses and be a light of life.

Can’t believe Peter Steele has been gone 11 years now. His voice was so amazingly original and something about bassist lead singers is so cool.

Type o this one of those bands where you’ll either not get it or become Uber obsessed with them…..they’re one of my favourite bands. No one else is like them.

My interpretation of the line, "Loving you was like loving the dead," was always that he's is talking about the look/style of the goth chick he's referring to. Like she made herself up to basically look like a dead chick, or at the very least, someone who's super into death and dark stuff, and that's how she presented herself... in a style that's dark and morbid and creepy. And to love *that* was like "loving the dead."

Peter was basically a giant, lol. near 7' tall. I always saw this band is sort of goth-rock, with a deeper tone. Kind of slow, but still heavy.

Long live Peter Steele. He was a legend. This is one of the best Halloween songs ever imo. Glad you guys got around to them. It’s interesting you say they’re “kinda chill” cuz this song and record is where they made their transition from doom thrash to this more romanticized goth hard rock. Much of their earlier stuff was a bit faster and darker, and very controversial. Everything after this was a bit lighter. They were truly unique tho. Their music completely represents my personality. Happy Halloween you two 🤘🏼
