Traditional Korean House Tour ► Hanok in Jeonju

- Hanok are traditional Korean homes and I give you a tour of one during our stay in Jeonju! The city is filled with over 800 hanok, making it a hotspot for tourists to experience old-school Korean culture. Within walking distance, we also check out a folk performance accompanied with live music. For dinner we have a feast paired with makeolli (Korean rice wine). Watch the video to see the day unfold :)

When I see old house's like this I think family..nothing much else other than its beautifully peaceful
I think of the whole place burning down by accident. I imagine myself standing amongst the ashes in silence, the peace before you relize you have no where to live.

And the houses looks more sturdy than those they build in Usa. These kind of buildings always looks so peaceful and reminds me of drinking tea and leaves from blossom trees falling

Shay45 I love those homes 😍 those houses are uncommon Sadler as most houses are now built with thin walls and rely on cheap “insulation” and dry wall for warmth which isn’t great for the colder climates that you can have

The way Korea maintains its cultural heritage is just wonderful. It is so modern yet packed with culture!

I really enjoyed this tour of a traditional Korean home. I was stationed in Korea for over a year and was fortunate to work with people who were kind enough to invite me into their homes. At that time many people still lived in the traditional houses which I thought were extremely practical. I was a little skeptical the first time I spent a night and realized everyone slept on the floor. What a surprise when I discovered it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Thank you again for bringing back wonderful memories.
lived in Ulsan and the folk dances is one of my favorite memories. At the 2 minute mark, the stand with the buttons is a sewing machine stand. The silver plate inside one of the drawers is a part of the machine that you would pop open and place a thread bobbin to catch the sewing thread as you sewed. My mother sewed all her life till she passed away at the blessed age of 85. I LOVE watching your videos. Many wonderful memories.
The random piece of metal 1.57, is where the needle puts the thrid stitch on the back of the fabric. I use to work at a fabric store.
My children (age 7 and 5) love your channel and all the places you show us. You may not realize it, but the food and accommodations information is extremely relevant to small

Thank you for showing what Hanok building looks like. I have become fascinated by the wisdom in everything about ancient Korea. I read the way they are so clever they build the Hanok out of all sustainable materials, the floor is heated while cooking dinner from the fires, every single wall and window is placed according to the weather, sun, season etc; and they teach the infinite wisdom of Confucianism life principles to help us live our life in strength, purity and intelligence. The western world seems so sort of polluted, weakened and lost in modern diseased ways of entitled thinking, so when I started to discover traditional Korean way of life, I am now hooked on learning about Korea! From the traditions, philosophy, healthy cooking and incredible architecture - I cannot get enough!

I stayed at a Hanok guesthouse on my visit to Jeonju. This was definitely one of my favourite experiences on my Korea trip. Especially after spending 10 days in Seoul, this was a great break from the busy city. The host was very sweet and also made us a huge traditional breakfast.

I love the content on your channel! I'm not Korean, but that's how my family & I slept growing up when we visited family too. Next to each other in the living room! Guests bedrooms didn't exists. However, we have the luxury of renting hotels today if there are no guest bedrooms. Lol

I think hanok is great both in design and science. Simple but well designed to show the tradition of the culture. For example, the space was divided, which shows the Confucian culture of the time. The scientific principle is greater. The wind direction varies depending on the season, and people recognized it and arranged the position of the window, which used Bernoulli's principle, a well-known concept. In addition, as the height of the sun was recognized and made according to the season, each season could be cooled comfortably.

Fun fact for some Traditional Korean houses: The floor is always warm, thats why some Koreans sleep on their floor.

Ondol, which literally means “warm stones” and was developed during the prehistoric period, refers to the system of channels running beneath the stone floor of a room through which heat is delivered from the fireplace in the kitchen. It is also designed to effectively draw out the smoke through the under-the-floor passages connected to the chimney.
Another architectural feature is the board-floored room called maru located at the center for multiple purposes. The room is usually larger than other rooms and is raised from the ground to allow warm and cold air to freely circulate under it. This creative natural air-conditioning system ensures a cool living environment during the summer. In other words, the traditional Korean house is scientifically designed to incorporate these smart ondol-maru systems in harmony.

Did anyone notice the beautiful mill stones on the ground so cool .my grandfather told me that’s why Japanese house looks the way they do because during the Japanese invasion they took craftsman from Korea and slaved them in Japan

At 0:12 you said that the house is made of Wood Stone and Earth. Well, i am not a native speaker of English language but i think you mean "soil" not "Earth". It's simple to see the difference, just type on google soil and look at the images and then type earth and see what you get.
