Every auto climate control has a manual option. If you want outside air in, turn the A/C off manually, turn off the recirculation and set the temperature all the way to the coldest setting. Adjust the fan speed to your liking.
+Yuri Tereshyn -- what I do in my Honda that has auto climate control is I have an outside temperature gauge (most modern cars do). I know if it's 16ºC outside and I put the climate control on max cool without A/C, it's going to deliver me air that's 16ºC. If I want it any warmer than that, now I just turn the dial to read anything above 16ºC. Auto climate controls can do everything that manual climate controls can do, you can literally have an auto climate control run fully manual, just like the cars of yore. They simply offer more precision when you want it and if left alone, they will manage the hot and cold for you. I love mine and use it both automatically and manually.
Saab 9-3 has auto climate control, has TWO temperature modes, when the roof is up (convertible) it does the numbers thing (18-28c i think). but when the roof is down you get a choice between 0-10 of how warm the air coming out the vents is! That is fantastic engineering (not what ud expect from GM!)
That isn't even what the A/C button does. Think of A/C as dehumidifier and that's close enough to accurate. It says nothing about whether the air will be cooled more than outside air.
Ok guys! Automatic climate control has two settings. 1st is automatic ON - when you set the temperature and the system keeps that temperature level and controls the fan. 2nd is manual (automatic OFF) - when you want just "outside air to come in to the cabin" just set the temperature the lowest and turn the fan speed to your liking. And if you want warmer air just raise the temp. That's it :D
The 2015 Forte 5 was the first one I bought, for my wife to replace her Golf. Now I've bought my second Kia, a K5 for myself. Best alternative for VW lovers are the Forte hatch and now the new K5. The 5 year German influence within Kia is showing.
Hey Yuri, what you want to do in a Kia is this... When in auto mode press AC, then press AC again. First press turn auto mode off and turns AC on. Second press turns AC off. Now you're on Vent. Now set the fan speed and there you go. Also, I like auto climate! Dual zone 4 lyfe.

The 92 mazda 626 had a slider next to the climate vents that would literally just allow outside air to rush in. It was awesome (except when a ton of leaves would rush in lol)
Auto climate is easier but not Superior. Sometimes you just want air, and you want to point it towards the hot or cold. It should be an option and I always prefer cars that give you more control over the airflow and temperature.
Side note: I used to drive for Uber and wanted fresh air blowing at all times so I would use manual temp set to 75 in the winter with doors opening all the time. But I had climate control as one of the panels on the touchscreen and it would show 75 75 with no explanation. Passengers would open windows or say it was too hot even though it was really more like 70. So I changed the touchscreen panel to navigation or something just so they wouldn't get psychologically primed to think it was too hot. Problem solved.

Gotta agree with Yuri, I miss ventilating the interior by just using the fans and not the compressor. Nowadays when I want to do this, I have to set the inside target temperature to exactly the same as the outside temperature and turn off the A/C manually.
I was only off by around 100 balls... On another note, I'm not usually a fan of Kia's but this video definitely made me appreciate them more. I could definitely see myself considering one if I was in the market for a car in its class, instead of ignoring it like I would have before
Praveen Premchandran This is an old review, don't think they're going to reply. But yeah, this "review" was really light on driving impressions, but other review's I've seen say the handling is just ok, but nowhere near class leading. (Steering feel isn't great) Another problem is unlike the Elantra GT Sport, (and all of the competiton, even the Chevy Cruze offers watts linkage in higher trims) the Forte5 SX has a torsion beam rear suspension instead of fully independent. Having said that, you probably won't notice unless you push this thing pretty hard..
I agree, Yuri. In Colorado in the morning and evenings I like my temperature setting in the middle, the white dashes between the red and blue. Keep up the good fight.
Yuri, totally agree with outside air. Have auto climate in my manual A3, awesome car but miss outside air option from my 01 manual Focus ZX3. Auto climate is great if it had that option. Cheers guys.
Btw, did you guys know that Kia's traction control system is actually a 2-stage system? Pressing the button only turns it off partially: holding the button down for 2 seconds shuts it completely off (you'll here a chime and get a message in the instrument cluster) 😎
First saw the automatic transmission in the Kia, wondered why you chose AT over MT. The cluster gauge speed was in kilometers, thought this car was a press car from Korea. And later finally realized you are in Canada and the Forte5 is not offered with manual. Fun review!

I agree about having just a neutral air mode. I had a car that had an auto climate, but it really wasn't like what temp it said. So sure I had the nob set to 70f but was getting like 80f air because it was 100f outside.. Also whenever the car thought it cooled down enough, it would crank the fan down to low. Being 6', I sat far enough from the vents, where it would get stuffy real quick.
I agree with Yuri, don't like automatic climate control...every one I've experienced always sets the fan too high. And yes, sometimes just cool fresh air from outside (windows/roof closed) is best. However I do like setting a specific temp, 73 degrees Fahrenheit for me. The blue/red thing also works fine though..

I have a Elantra with auto climate control, if you turn the system off and also have recirculate off the air still comes in the vent at whatever the temp outside is, you just have to choose which vents you want in coming in before you shut off the system, I'm sure its the same on this car.

You are welcome. As for it being more difficult... Are GPS being run by mind control these days? Can not imagine how it can get much easier. How are these other cars doing it that makes it so much easier? How would you normally zoom a map?
+Cy begon honestly very tough choice. I think the Civic looks cooler (different) but the Kia looks better (more conservative design). The Kia is faster but the Civic handles better. The Civic has a bit of turbo lag and comes in manual, which makes it more fun to drive. You really can't go wrong with either depending on your preference.
TheStraightPipes so quick update. I drove the kia and really liked it. A week later I drove the civic and the kia back to back. No contest, the civic just felt better in pretty much every way. The only things I liked better on the kia was the torque felt more immediate and I liked the cooled front seats. That was it.
You should review the 2018 Nissan Sentra nismo to this kind of small sedan cars or hatch, it has similar power, similar or even better feel, raw manual driving when you put it on sport and traction control off

Some just told me this last week. Do you what the different stages are?
How about checking the ext temperature from the instrument cluster and match the AC temperature. That is an option.
That seems like a lot more work than keeping the knob in the middle.

To get unaltered outside air, set temp low but turn off A/C compressor.

You are welcome. As for it being more difficult... Are GPS being run by mind control these days? Can not imagine how it can get much easier. How are these other cars doing it that makes it so much easier? How would you normally zoom a map?

would you guys take this over the new civic sport hatchback?
+Cy begon honestly very tough choice. I think the Civic looks cooler (different) but the Kia looks better (more conservative design). The Kia is faster but the Civic handles better. The Civic has a bit of turbo lag and comes in manual, which makes it more fun to drive. You really can't go wrong with either depending on your preference.
TheStraightPipes so quick update. I drove the kia and really liked it. A week later I drove the civic and the kia back to back. No contest, the civic just felt better in pretty much every way. The only things I liked better on the kia was the torque felt more immediate and I liked the cooled front seats. That was it.

You should review the 2018 Nissan Sentra nismo to this kind of small sedan cars or hatch, it has similar power, similar or even better feel, raw manual driving when you put it on sport and traction control off

+Larry Richelli no not quite. It's cheaper and has more features though. If you're looking for a fwd hatch that would match the performance of a WRX, I would recommend looking at the Focus ST. That just so happens to be our review next week!

Praveen Premchandran i have a 2018. It’s faster than the Mazda but I think the Mazda has slightly better handling. I love mine though
