    With all the fast 'fashion' that abounds today, it's great to see Sian at work fitting everyone for their 'new clothes'... I do miss sewing, so now it's time to get all may machines serviced. I have a stash of laces from my days in intimate apparel, so it's definitely time to sort out the ones that Stephanie could use. To stiffen cotton lace, use a commercial spray fabric starch, for delicate lace try a solution of a water and a clear drying glue.... Lalande is starting a whole new era... Stephanie I can feel your excitement! 🏰👍🦘

    Bc of the amount of wood they used, modern France has more forests than medieval/renaissance France so the chateau was probably visible to all the locals when it was built

    • @michellezevenaar
      @michellezevenaar 3 года назад +7

      Very interesting! I know they definitely used and managed the woods more then. Trees would be copisted (not sure of the spelling), its basically cutting the tree back so that you get lots of thinner branches that are the same size and straight that can be harvested to make things like fencing.

    I watch Stephanie on my laptop with headphones on, whilst my husband watches normal tv. The first few minutes of the vlog I could hear a chainsaw. Took my headphones off and said to my husband, can you hear a chainsaw? Why would our guests be using a chainsaw to chop up firewood? We have an AIRBNB and our property is in the bush (forest to Europeans). I honestly thought the chainsaw noise was coming outside our house! LOL. My husband told me I was hearing things. Mystery solved as soon as Stephanie went to the window I could see Dan in the distance and I knew he must be chainsawing. It was just so funny.

    If you have a metal detector, detect around where the walls are and were...if they're low enough for people centuries ago, to sit, on there is usually a coin or two that has been dropped, as well as bits and pieces of jewelry, etc. Also at the food of old, large trees where people would rest, stop work for a rest or a bite to eat, or to even have an intimate picnic...again, things get lost....wondering too, have you found any area(s) that may have been used as a refuse or trash heap or dump, away from the Chateau? Usually when damaged jewelry, shoes, plates, brushes, bottles, and so on, along with other garbage and trash, were usually placed in a designated area. You have a lot of exploring to do. If you choose to go for walks, you should always take a detector with you. On the edge of your property, near old roadways, or paths, are usually where you find things that have been dropped or things like shoe or knee buckles from the 15th-16th century lost from both men and women's attire. Rings have been lost, usually if someone removes their gloves in the winter while outside. Things from a man's pouch or cloak were lost when they were removing gloves or other items from them. Combs used in women's hair as well as earrings, were sometimes lost as well, while roaming the grounds, or taking a walk with someone who was courting her. Children's toys is another thing that is sometimes found. Because your grounds and buildings go SO far back in time/history, there are probably a lot of secrets just waiting to be discovered! Lucky you! (If I had a wonderful place like yours, so old and with so much history, I would try to designate a time at least a couple of days a month in the spring, summer and fall, to take excursions on your grounds with a detector) . It will be great exercise, giving you a perfect opportunity to get even more acquainted with your "estate" and interact with that amazing nature that surrounds you. If you end up finding some neat things, you can create a display area, on your main floor, with each item, labeling what it is, and where you found it on the grounds. Wonder if you should perhaps name the different areas on your grounds and have signs made and erected to use as reference points for your guests. Visitors will get a better feel of those who lived there in the past.

    This reminded me of a bed covering that was given to my grandmother by my great grandmother when she married. Amazing fabric brocade fabric,amazing quality it's around 100 years old. My grandmother gave it to me to make a jacket that gives kimono/wrap/button up with pearls design vibes, it was my first jacket and praise be to God it was my best work yet.
    So glad the design worked out, making everything symmetrical and even making a belt to wrap around, out of the same fabric. I love it so much, and i will keep it forever.
    And around my house there is all these gorgeous brocade fabric curtains, with deep blues and golds, for years i have been eyeing them. I may do it later in order to preserve and celebrate them in a new form.
    God bless you all!

    Sian is a marvel. Not that anyone needs me vouching for her, but from France to Australia with only my measurements to rely on she made me the most wonderful cape in record time. If only she were closer I would have a wardrobe filled with her wonderful creations. The Lalanders are going to look fabulous for Easter. Can’t wait.

    You could ask Selmar to make benches for around the gardens from the wood felled at the moat. He has such a way with wood and natural benches would look fantastic. I'm sure anybody staying there would love to just sit and anjoy the grounds xx

    The dresses, the gentlemen’s garments, Marie’s florals, the moat ! Scones and tea! I see wattle fencing in the walled garden with all those slender branches. The stable roof! A bridge over the moat, it will be breathtaking , I dream of my visit and seeing the Chateau for the first time it will be quite emotional. Thank you Stephanie for all the beauty you bring to the world.

    The two temporary dresses looked like matching elegant nighties. When Nati put on the beautiful red dress I was waiting for the big bad wolf disguised as Granma to appear. Would love to put in an order for the same outfit that Phil is going to wear, Stephanie your right we need to have that style of coat back, and the idea for a rich fabric in the folds of the coat. The opening up of the vista at the dry moat looks amazing, Capability Brown would be impressed with the work. Also you will have gained an impressive log stock for the fires . Also liking the style of coat Selmar has gone for. Not fair... can not reach into screen for a piece of flap jack.
