  • In this video we're creating an infrared photography effect using only Photoshop - so no filters or converted cameras required!
We'll create both colour and black and white infrared effects and take a look at the channel mixer, Hue/Saturation adjusments, as well as levels.

That looks pretty convincing, Robert. I'm probably one of Dave's 'In Camera brigade' here as I like the faff on with the filters and the process 😄

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong Andrew - that's my preferred way too. Although I haven't tried a converted camera yet - that's one for the future. Cheers for watching. 😊

IR is something in which I’ve never dabbled Robert - seen Mr Heaton shoot some but that’s about as far as it goes. As for the edit process it certainly looks a bit of a stretch 😂 (for me anyway) but enjoyed seeing the end results 👍🏻 All the best and thanks for sharing .

Using the filters can be fun, although there is still a bit of processing required there too. I guess a converted camera would be easiest, but it's an expensive bit of kit for quite a niche genre. Not sure I can justify it! Thanks for watching Andrew. 😊

Had an IR filter in my bag for about two years now and maybe used it once.....just not something I'd necessarily consider 'in the moment'. With that in mind this is actually pretty cool non-destructive way round of doing it. IR filters require a bit of post prod to get right anyway it's probably a quicker way of doing things. The 'must be done in camera brigade' won't like that conclusion though 😄 Nice final results and simple to follow vid mate

Haha yeah, definitely going to be too far for some. Personally I feel IR falls under creative photography anyway, so I don't feel too guilty. Got to say though, I'd like to try out a converted camera at some point. Thanks for watching mate. 😊

That is a pretty cool effect! I was wondering while you were doing this if there is a setting on some cameras that do this automatically without filters? Me being curious. Wonder what out Otis' would look like in purple!? lol Great work and enjoy the week ahead!

I'm not sure Bruce, I believe it requires altering the sensor to only record the infrared light, so whether that can be done at the flick of a switch, I'm not sure. It would certainly be a cool feature. Maybe you should patent that! 😁 Thanks for watching. 😊

Great Robert, very informative and much easier than messing about with filters or the expense of a conversion. 🐕‍🦺

Thanks John, it definitely is. I know it will be too much manipulation for some, but infrared is very much getting into the realms of creative photography, so I'm quite comfortable with it. Thanks for watching. 😊
