    I love the map of greyhawk and I also love the idea that Gary left it up to us to fill in what we wanted and use what we wanted out of the books

    Unofficial Greyhawk, by the original players of the setting, is always nice.

    I have a new campaign started using greyhawk setting
    I am using the map to show them there local area but I am creating a new story on my own ideas and adding greyhawk lore into it as a see fit
    It takes place about 10 years after the wars

    Castle Zagyg cost me so much I'm scared to use it. Read it once after i got it then placed in on the self beside Chainmail and OD&D white box, it really is sad looked like a great mega dungeon.

    Wasn't Andre Norton's Quag Keep technically a Greyhawk novel?

    • @GreyhawkGrognard
      @GreyhawkGrognard  2 года назад +4

      Yes, but it's so different from the other Greyhawk canon that it really counts as its own thing.

      @@GreyhawkGrognard ‘Greyhawk adjacent’ as they would say today. I remember reading it at school when it came out and hating the idea of player becoming their miniature but liking the rest of the novel.

    Due to the advancing years, we are slowly losing all the original players/creators. I wish Rob Kuntz would complete at least a version of Castle Zagyg/Greyhawk. He was working on it with Gary before he passed away. I'm sure they had discussed it at length and shared notes. Where is Rob Kuntz hiding these days anyway? Wasn't he in Corsica a little while back?

    Great video. I would have included CASL Publishing that have also done a lot of adventures for Greyhawk that also have the serial numbers filed off. They are high quality publications. I consider these and your works to be impeccable.

    Couple honorable mentions I can think of: The Slayers Guide to Dragons has a Greyhawk/Iggwilv related adventure. The Slayers Guide to Undead has several Greyhawk breadcrumbs sprinkled throughout. And the Lost City of Gaxmoor was originally set in Greyhawk.

      The The Revenge of Ghorkai from Slayers Guide to Dragons had some web supplemental material released that really added to the adventure if you can track that down.

    You modestly omitted that your Castle of the Mad Arch-Mage carefully incorporates almost every detail of the Greyhawk Dungeons that was publicly known circa the early 2010s, from the early Dragon articles to the Gord books.
    We can only hope we live long enough to see a publication of Gary’s notebooks.

      Not being a player in the original campaign, my work falls outside the scope of the video. But thanks for the kind words. :-)

      @@GreyhawkGrognard I bought castle of the mad archmage and loved it,it's the best we got and I'm sure it would have a thumbs up from Gary Gygax 👍 😀.
      Seeing everything that happened,I'm sure Gary would be excited to see you carry it on when no one else did.....
      You did a great job,he told us.This world of greyhawk is ours now....your as well.
      I run castle of the mad archmage and love it.

    No one's thought to translate Gygax's Troll Lords material into PDFs & sell it on Drive-Thru? That could make someone a decent amount of money. Does Gary's family retain the rights to that?
    Didn't know about the Lakofka stuff, I'll be checking that out.
    While the later Gord novels don't illustrate much about Oerth, they do give a detailed, intriguing picture of the politics & personalities of the Abyss. Someone running an Outer Planes campaign could get a lot of useful material out of it.

    • @GreyhawkGrognard
      @GreyhawkGrognard  2 года назад +2

      Totally agreed about the Gord books' usefulness in describing the Abyss. Also extending Eclavdra's personal history to go to Graz'zt after the Elder Elemental God failed to produce results.
      Alas, the rights to all of Gary's gaming works (including Castle Zagyg) reside with his widow Gail. She is the one responsible for pulling the license from Troll Lord Games all those years ago, and has not seen fit to grant the license to anyone else, as far as I'm aware.

    Your dining area back there behind you and your book shelf placement looks exactly like Danial's dining room in Mazes and Monsters as he's eating with his parents. Is that on purpose? You could almost reshoot that scene. :)
