In the description ot says in the original..does that mean that the song was originally written in swedish..because i thought it was written in english by Thomas and the band?
@@leif1075 it is definitely not a Pink Martini original! It's an ABBA original, in both English and Swedish. The original Swedish-language version's lyrics were written by ABBA's manager Stig Anderson, and differ substantially from the English-language version. In the original, the narrator tries to console the heartbroken Fernando, who has lost his great love. "The sorrow can be hard to bear, but the fact that friends let us down is something we all have to cope with". The chorus' lyrics are: "Long live love, our best friend, Fernando. Raise your glass and propose a toast to it; to love, Fernando. Play the melody and sing a song of happiness. Long live love, Fernando".
Cher did this song in the mamma mia sequel as Ruby and Andy Garcia as Fernando.

Got an earache. Please somebody convince this great band to get rid of this von Trapps "addition". While I applaud the openness and funkiness characteristic of Pink Martini, this idea of inserting yukulele, cheesy looking outfits and untalented singers with no voice or sense of rythmn is bad. They ruin everything.What's next Pink Martini? Ketchup on caviar?

Sorry to contradict you mate. IMHAO, the Von Trapps are extremely gifted, in fact I can't even describe how awesome they are. Love them very much and come back to their songs again and again.
Their rendition is fantastic! It is just like the same old dish with a danceable twist! It's good when people try some other renditions of old favorites. It's definitely uplifting.
And by the way, I dont' see anything wrong with their attire. It's decent and fresh unlike the usual staples of so called "singers" who feel the need to show off body parts while singing. After all singers are expected to flaunt their talent not their bodies.
