Matt, I think your main pain here was not meeting the requirements for each coaster. Different coasters require different things to be present to get their full excitement; not meeting the requirements usually halves the excitement rating (and intensity and nausea, weirdly). For example, you can meet the requirements for a corkscrew coaster with just one half of a corkscrew, but you need a big drop for a hypercoaster. This is true of all tracked rides as well, not just coasters. Pretty sure that was what was happening with your launched coaster pair. One of them met it's requirements, the other didn't. So even though they were identical, one had 6 excitement and the other had around 3. Because it's stats were halved!
the corkscrew is the best coaster to cheese scenarios with. You just put it in powered launch at lowest speed and have it do 2 station segments onto a half corkscrew. It cost around 700 dollars to build. The stats are good enough to charge around 7 dollars a ride and adds i think 165 to the guest soft cap.
It's honestly a real challenge to get 6 excitement on a Stand-Up coaster even if you don't fail to meet the requirements. It's a super bad ride type for something like this.
Not 100% sure, but if I'm remembering correctly, you can build coasters in those rock faces, and the coaster uses the rock as support... that way, coaster pieces don't cost as much, and you get great excitement value going in and out of rocks! Would love to see you try again! 😁

Research is one big list of what will be unlocked. You can control it by not selecting a research option. And say you only put research towards Roller Coaster, there's a specific list it will follow. So yes, it's not random.

Its because of ‘stat requirements’. Basically every coaster has certain requirements and if not met the ratings are sometimes halved, sometimes even divided by 4. The specific requirements and ‘punishments’ differ per coaster type
The first two coasters and the Jr coaster are the epitome of "Any man can build a bridge, it takes an engineer to build a bridge that just barely stands."
I feel like this would have gone much smoother if all the loans weren't taken out at the start, that loan interest kills! So close to success tho, interesting and fun video, love the roller coaster tycoon videos! ❤
This is one of my all-time favorite games (well, RCT 1 is). The fact that you're playing them is genuinely the best thing. I can't speak for anyone else but I will always watch these, no matter how silly they are.

(Or might've been 100 mph... whichever the speed cap was, it hugged it) XD (There were no survivors beyond the station launch) But yeah, would also be a challenge to build these without deleting any parts too. Keep up the great work! (And looking forward to more of your Minecraft playthrough too, as well as more of this!)
The looping coaster is also the strongest shape! Also I haven't played the game in ages, but could you build on the higher areas to get free momentum to not need as much chain lift for speed?
The reason the stand up one has a low excitement is because of the red vertical g’s. Any red number lowers the other values, a lower speed to lower the g’s may have made the difference
Excessive vertical G doesn't reduce excitement, only increase intensity. Excessive lateral Gs are the ones that give big penalties. Stand up coasters have naturally shit stats, though.

In the future if you weave the roller-coasters in and out of each other, like make a loop and thread another coaster through the loop, it will increase the excitement.
Funny how we came up with the same solution. When I was younger I loved this game so much. And I would boost them with barrels! Also tunnels and going underground for more excitement! Much love dude!

Hey Matt the researched coasters are not unlocked randomly. Each scenario has a specific order that they unlock in.
you could have build the coasters, saved them, and build them in another try, therefore saving money on trial and error as well as interest.

The airpowered coaster is pretty good, even without a hill. Not sure if the excitement is over 6 tho…
Next time don't take the loans out at start, but only as you need the money. That way the interest isn't as painful.
