I love how George Lucas tried and failed to get the rights to Flash Gordon, so he just made his own space opera, and then this in turn allowed the film version to be made.

I would love to get some insight into their Tarzan adaptation. One of the best.

The great Lou Scheimer would also lend his voice to his cartoons Including voicing King Randor on he-man and the masters of the universe, as well as doing the opening narration for BraveStarr. He is greatly missed. Plus he pioneered weekday afternoon cartoons as opposed to Saturday morning.

This was the first cartoon that I remember being obsessed with when I was a kid. I remember laying on the floor with my bowl of cereal watching it on the floor model tv 📺 with knobs 😂 Love the series and the live action movie. Made me obsessed with Queen too.

"FLASH GORDON" was Filmation Associates' ultimate production accomplishment throughout the studio's history of limited animation, and never in the cartoon studio's history, have they ever partaken in such a special and creative endeavor. This animated production was the equivalent of a primary science fiction production, and this was a first for Filmation, which achieved a superior status that even exceeded any Hanna-Barbera production! a man that Filmation also used in their production was John Grusd, who was responsible for the realistic spaceship sequences, and it was a visually impressive feat that no other animation studio ever accomplished, especially since this Filmation production was a pricey two million dollar accomplishment, and Lou Scheimer & Norm Prescott were at their highest level of superior animation production, and "FLASH GORDON" was such a special kind of production that has NEVER been done on such a level! Lou Scheimer and Filmation stayed creatively loyal to the Alex Raymond designs, especially the voluptuous "Princess Aura", voiced by future "SHE-RA" voice actress Melendy Britt, and Alan Oppenheimer's voice of "Ming The Merciless", which was originally voiced in the pilot movie by Bob Holt ("WIZARDS")-and why Filmation's version of The King Features Syndicate owned material didn't win an Emmy Award is certainly anybody's guess!

I was a kid when the animated movie came on Saturday night on NBC, and my brothers and I were glued to the screen. We loved it. We got to see this movie before the live-action came out, which we went and watched and loved.

One thing that can’t be denied is the art direction on Filmation shows were beautiful. Flash, He-Man, She-Ra, Star Trek, heck they were even my introduction to Tarzan and Zorro! Now we get characters with “bean mouth.”

When I was a kid - in the time of newspapers - the comic strips that I were hooked on were "The Phantom" (Lee Falk), "Mandrake the Magician" (Lee Falk), "Garth" (can't remember). Great times 👍.
