    At a strategy meeting in Tropica, Flash and his friends plan to recapture Vultan's mile high Sky City now under control of Ming's robot guards. Flash and Thun return to Mongo City where they team up with Ergon, Leader of the Power. Ming dispatches his trusty aide Urzeen to Tropica to capture Dale and bring her back for his bride. Flash and his party stow away on a supply rocket ship to sky city where they immobilize Ming's energy shield that protects sky city. Vultan and his winged warriors and Prince Barin and his forestmen attack and recapture Sky City. It takes the verve of Flash and the genius of Ergon to re-connect the faulty anti-gravity beams, saving the falling city just before it slams into the ground. With Sky City secure, Flash hastens to Mongo City to free Dale from Ming. As the chapter ends Flash unexpectedly meets Ming, who freezes Flash into a solid mass of ice crystals.

      Oppenheimer was also in "The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse" (circa 1980, long before that Ralph Bakshi imbroglio) - yet another Filmation series.

    For an all-powerful emperor, he sure seems to have a lot of factions in his kingdom.

    Weird how robots 🤖 run away as if they have fear. Not human.

    So many components of these episodes were incorporated into the Flash live action movie. Its pretty cool

    One thing that doesn't make sense is why would robot soldiers surrender? Robots can only do what they're programmed to do and Ming would never program them to surrender under any circumstances.

      Totally agree with you BUT as this is animation then I suppose the normal rules of logic don't really play into it, there are times with animation that you have to let certain "inconsistencies" slide. Many times in cartoons this has happened, in one episode of the original He-Man series (again by Filmation) there features a dragon....a dragon wearing a (wait for it) A BATTLE HELMET!!! God only knows what the hell the animators had in their coffee that day, but that is just one example. Despite these silly oversights, it didn't dampen my love for these classic cartoons. The style of animation, the actors voices and that amazing background music (just love those eerie incidental scores) .... despite todays technical breakthroughs in animation, not even they could recreate the style and feel for these brilliant animated classics. And YES I still enjoy them today. I remember when I was a kid this show would usually be aired on Bank Holidays and I fell in love with them then and even today I still enjoy enjoy them!! I'm glad to say that I have this and many other classics on DVD to watch and enjoy and relive some great times.

    Who else came looking for one of these Filmation "Flash Gordon" episodes after seeing the "Mythforce" promotional video? You were likely born before 1980 - my peeps (Pepys?)

      Nah I watched some Star Trek (animated) and found out that this show was considered the other top show by Filmation. Yes though to pre 1980 (and a bit more). Surprised to see a reference to Samuel Pepys though. Studied him at Uni.

    Was George Lucas inspired by this episode to make Return of the Jedi?

    • @folgore1
      @folgore1 3 года назад +3

      In a general sense, Lucas was inspired by the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers movie serials of the 1930's.

    • @theshillneckedlizard8364
      @theshillneckedlizard8364 2 года назад +2

      George Lucas was inspired by many things. He's said the original idea was the 1930's Flash Gordon serials, but it also included aspects of Japanese samurai films, especially the swordplay (lightsabers) and costuming, and even the Lord of the Rings books (Gandalf and the Witch-King influenced the characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader)

      I think Filmation "pushed the envelope" in many situations. Their "Zorro" series had a closing educational bit about how Spanish expressions found their way into American English (the audacity!). "He-Man" depicted physically strong-looking women as "attractive" (pubescent boys at the time noticed Teela having hips). The "2.0" or "Legal Eagle" run of "Fat Albert" depicted a dead person in one episode (CBS would not have allowed that).Their last hurrah, "BraveStarr", depicted the title character as being of Native American ancestry - and the episode on drug addiction, "The Price", ended in a death.

      From a purely practical point of view, I always wondered why Princess Aura wore leather gloves to protect her hands during her adventures, when the rest of her costume was more or less just a bikini? I mean, why bother?
