  • Mike became an instant super-fan of Ilana Glazer in 2014 when her hit series Broad City premiered on Comedy Central. This week on the podcast Mike and Ilana go deep on the origins of Broad City, Mike’s cameo on the show, honest takes on parenting, the development of Ilana’s new hour of stand-up comedy, and how Broad City Ilana is different from real life Ilana. Plus, jokes and stories about weed-induced anxiety and saying hello to strangers.

I saw her do stand up on this tour and it was so good! Constantly pleasantly surprised by how SMART she is. Only brilliant people can play total dummies this well

Ilana’s point about presence in parenting is why I love it too! And I think it is also part of why the “mad mom” trope exists- being present can feel very unsafe which makes it challenging as well as triggering to fight/flight/freeze/fawn responses. For me, my initial “mom rage” was an emotional coping mechanism for not knowing how to operate in presence, which I also associated with hyper vigilance, for so many hours of the day.

Ilana if you see this, I’d love to hear jokes about the experience of getting your kid ready for bed at the pace it happens at. I think there is a wealth of jokes available in the experience of allowing our children to live their lives as their own experience.

Self checkout is along the lines of texting … we don’t answer phones and we don’t interact with people to checkout - and I’m fine with all those.

lol. Most comedians are people pleasers and graduate into further narcissistic tendencies as they enjoin and entwine themselves in spectacle/desire for continued relevance; their own lack building their own grave.
I think it’s difficult to hear other people struggle as parents as in Marge’s example because it shows their existential lack. They love but they are suffering, not just through who they are but because of these amassed wrongs and quagmires of a probable malnutritive partner.
But when you’re rich… these are more easily assuaged by time, help, and almost limitless possibilities

Whenever anyone says they get a panic attack that means they don’t smoke enough. Do it every day and you’ll start panicking without it. Reverse those roles and let your wallet buy happiness. Todays prices and availability, i havent ran out since 1996
