    The Shishova II consists of a salto backward stretched with a full twist and is named after former Soviet gymnast Albina Shishova. It carries a G-rating and is the most difficult skill performed on this apparatus, excluding mounts and dismounts.
    Like in any twisting element on a 3.9-inch piece of wood, the risk of falling off the apparatus is exponentially increased - especially since the Layout Full can only be performed in combination. Most gymnasts do it out of a round-off, or out of two back handsprings - and China’s Deng LinLin even tried to connect a Korbut out of it.

    Too many are piked down when they should have been taught by their coaches that the secret is to take it higher for more airtime, so they can not only have a far more stretched out position, but also are better able to adjust their awareness in the air.
    Kui Yuanyuan is a perfect example as she flung her layout high enough to notice when she was off center in the 1997 World Championships EF and correct the error.

      The skill is named for Albina Shishova. Elena Shushunova was known for her textbook perfect full twisting Korbut (Rulfova.) Shushunova always completed the twist way before making contact with the beam and I have yet to see anyone do that skill as clean as she did.

    • @poshbo

      Shishova is not Shushunova, they are two different gymnasts

    • @melissakerber8287
      @melissakerber8287 2 месяца назад +3

      Another interesting fact about Shishova- the Yurchenko vault would probably been named after her. Yurchenko was not supposed to compete at the World Cup in 1982, the politics were in her favor. Shishova was also competing the round off entry vault at ‘83 worlds and was earlier in the line up than Yurchenko. I’m sure that there’s a parallel universe where most of today’s all arounders are doing double twisting Shishovas.

    "GEEZ, SIMONE, YOU LAZY COW, GET WITH THE PROGRAM HERE, HUH!?! DON'T SEE YOU TRYING THIS!?"
    (....thats absolutely 100% sarcasm, for anyone prepping a retaliation "reply" to this!? Gawd i WISH I KNEW that i could say that WITHOUT feeling the need for this absolute MORONIC "disclaimer" here, but... The Internet. Yeahhh)
    This is absolutely bonkers?! I bet this girl was walking by like, 5 weeks old because she has some eerily innate connection to Earth's core & maybe she has some weird type of magnetic dust in her bones that helps her stay balanced & in near perfect alignment no matter what's she's doing in the air?! Sheesh!?!
    ....i feel like a crap person right now for not remembering ever really watching a single performance by this girl either?! Especially because i CAN picture her face & remember SEEING HER, but obviously it was for ALLL the WRONG REASONS?!?!
    I definitely can recall seeing her competing with Russia for team finals... Never anything that stood out though- i absolutely DO NOT RECALL EVER seeing THIS!?
    (Which... I... Feel pretty BAD about after watching her DO THIS?!) Like, the most I can actually REMEMBER from her at ALL was at a team competition when Russia WAS maybe in silver but definitely bronze medal contention until the last or maybe the 3rd rotation when their whole team just seemed to kind of, well? Fall apart? (Im not a gymnast- I can't recall exactly when/where this was?) I just remember it was when Aliyah Mustafina had had a baby & was clearly much more of a "mature leader" for the team & i just recall Aliyah hugging this girl as she was crying after like, their 3rd person fell in a row from beam or something & their hope for a silver was absolutely impossible & even their hope for a bronze medal was going to be based on other people having big mistakes?!
    Im SURE someone knoss exactly what im talking about here lol. I dont honestly know WHY i can remember this "scene" sooo vividly?!
    Oh. Wait. MaAaybe because it seems that NBC, in particular, LOOOOOVES to zoom in & just HOLD the shots of gymnasts at their worst , saddest, most emotional, "Damn, give the girl a minute & a meter space maybe?!" Moments?! gahh.... Honestly thats PROBABLY why i can recall this moment so distinctly lol annnnd thats pretty sad & crappy when CLEARLY, I SHOULD BE remembering her for,m THIS CRAZY SKILL?!?
    ....HEAR THAT, NBC?! RUUUUDE MUCH? IMA HIRE SOMEONE TO KIDNAP YOUR STUPID 🦚 & EAT IT FOR THANKSGIVING, YA JERKS!?
    ... I don't even LIKE Thanksgiving, but. I BETCHYA id find it just a wee bit more satisfying eating me an NBC Peacock?! 😊
