I'm just a student pilot but if you want to work on airplanes more than just than just doing small stuff like light bulbs or tires, you need to get an A&P certificate. Then you can become an airplane mechanic. There is actually a huge shortage of aviation mechanics right now so it isn't a bad field to get into right now.
