Sir, I believe that first helmet that you had on is what is known as a Kitchner helmet. The one that replaced it later on with the broader brim is the Wolsely helmet.

I'm not really into politics, but it's just dumb to say that it's offensive for somebody to wear a pith helmet, in a hot place, where it was meant to be used because of it's light weight and wide brim.
I am afraid You have’nt studied the subject enough: The cheap “made In Vietnam” first pith helmet You show, is indeed marketed as a British style, but it’s overall shape has more to do with a French one, from the late nineteenth Century, except for the pointed peak. Anyhow, for a British “Foreign Service” helmet, the shape is wrong, way too broad at the sides, and too big. It tríes to look like a “foreign service” helmet from the 1880’s, but has nothing to do with the later Wolseley pattern used from 1898 or so in the Sudan campaign (Omdurman) and particularly during the World Wars, and by the Royal Marines in parade uniforms to this day. The next one, is based on the Vietnamese Army one, and has little to do with any French model. And Melania’s one is sold as French, but again it’s shape is not particularly similar to any real French pattern. You’ll better study a subject before recording a video for RUclips!
I have the khaki coloured one and ya I wasn't going for authenticity myself. I bought it off Amazon and that's what they claimed it was from. I like the style, but I'm sure, as you say, it's not exactly historically accurate. This guy sounds like he's a leftist raging fanboy crying over a meaningless hat. Well it was used in the "colonial era" whatever that means and therefore it's racist or whatever. Sighs smh. Lunacy at its finest.
@@histman3133 yes, I guess he's just jumping on the bandwagon. Because I have a hat like the one she was wearing (probably made in the same factory), and it *is* definitely a practical hat. Probably not the best quality, but it does the job. And the thing with pith helmets is there is the gap between your head and the hat, so they are really good for hot sun. I suppose you could say it's costume, because it's a cheaper reproduction, but it's a really comfortable, practical piece of "costume".
You probably know more abouth Pith helmets and where to buy what,so If you could point me to where I could order a pith helmet of good quality or at least traditional materials used. I want to buy one for my sister who is an Archeologist in Easter europe. Partly as a gag and partly because summer Digs are Brutaly hot
Village Hat Shop. I ordered their 'big head' version of the 'Indian Pith Helmet' last Friday, wore it yesterday. It's genuine pith, well made, reasonably priced. Fits my 60 cm melon.
