Mato, I think this is the best video format yet. The red highlights, the animated piece movements, simple intro and outro. It has a very clean feel that lets you get absorbed in the game.

I like how thousands of videos later, Mato is still willing to try new features in his videos, while also maintaining the charm that keeps us all watching. Great video as always, Batoreu made it a lot farther than most against Alekhine

That final move was so elegant and precise and I totally missed it. Very incisive play, and great lecture as always.

I believe that at the end he could have played Rh8, assuming the loss of h6 pawn, and strugle his way back into the game after the exchange... after all... he would be only one pawn down

Hello Mato, the other day I've discovered a very interesting player and I
ask you if it could be possible to make a video from one of his games.
His name: Baadur Jobava (GM from Georgia)
Anyway, thanks for your new video format. Appreciate it.
    Cheers from France

Dear Mato Thank you! I watch your videos daily. I do not like the new changes - the checkerboard animated transition in the beginning is distracting and the red lines are instructive but really messy! As they say If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I've been looking at the position after 17. h3. Were Black to play 17...Qb4, what would White's best answer have been? 18. b3 appears solid, after which White could continue his Kingside build-up with Nf5 or Nh5 to remove Black's best King defender.
If I were playing the Black pieces, I'd want to be rid of the White knights, especially the extremely well placed, cramping one on e5. However, it's not clear how that could be accomplished. 17...Nd7 looks very passive and exposes the pawn on f7 unpleasantly.

Don't know about the red arrows. Kind of distracting and reduces the need for imagination and mental calculations. If it ain't broke don't fix it. :)
Thank you Mato for the great lessons.

Hi Mato. I have been subscribing your channel for a while mainly for the way you comment and because you spend time selecting the interesting chess games of the great players. I see you have been experimenting with a video format recently. I understand the more popular you are the more you pay attention to how the video is made. I do not mind seeing you saying hello at the beginning or at the end. However watching you in the other half of the screen and focusing on the game at the same time is a bit difficult. Also the colourful annotations jumping over the board are a bit distracting. You would like to avoid the 'Christmass tree' effect in your videos, I think. More valuable is your commentary, sense of humor and the game we can learn from, than the video special effects.I like more the previous format, that is a text showing up “guess the move” at right handHi Mato. Not sure why black resigned in that position. A pawn down after Rxh6 but with accurate play he should be holding the draw..

    If (1) ... Kg5 ; (2) Rh5+ , then, if ... Kf6 or Kg6 ; (3) Rxh6+ , Kg5 ; (4) Rxh7 and White has a passed h pawn ; or if (2) ... Kf4 ; (3) Nxh6 and White threatens to capture Black's f and h pawns. Trying to stop White's passed pawns will cost Black a piece -- and therefore the game.

You're right. I didn't believe it but I checked the computer. Black is not getting checkmated here. The stockfish evaluation is 1.4, and after just three stockfish best moves, it even goes down to 1.2.
I guess Batoreu did not see the way to survive.

  • @Jimserac

BATTY played perfectly until the imbecilic King move up tog7 at the end which was something like a mouse waving a red flag at a bull. All Bat had to do was double his rooks on the e file, sac the pawn on h6, get a rook or rooks on e2 and he's got at least a draw.

Mato are you interested in commentating good amateur games for a fee? -Murphy

What game and and what fee?

    • @johnmurphy5428
      @johnmurphy5428 8 лет назад

I was thinking, with your approval, the format might be the amateur (me) would provide you the moves list for 3 games and you might decide which is best to commentate? The fee is what you decide (I'm not sure there's a precedent) but with your permission I was thinking $100/hr for however much time you invest? I understand everything has to have a certain quality for your subscribers to enjoy ...so it may take a little time to create a good game with the opponent that's worth watching/learning. I promise I won't waste your time or injure your quality. Ultimately, you make the final approval. Please, your thoughts? Kind regards, -Murphy
