    Great video Nick. I've gone off the 5110 displays a little bit because of the press fit contacts between the display and the board. If you get any sort of flex you get the screen changing contrast or going blank.

    I suggest you try the I2C color touchscreens from vizic technologies, they have all the libraries on board, so you only need to send commands to the display, this takes quite a bit load off the microcontroller and programming time.
    They have stereo amplifier on-board, SD, can play WAV etc.

    I have been playing with a 96x96 sharp memory LCD, it's mono but high contrast and low power (needs external light sources). It can display a static image without needing refreshing as long as it is powered. The one I have is reflective however you can get black and white ones

    There is a smaller (128x32) version of the OLED mono display that you show. This one is i2c. Some of these displays have 3.3v regulators on board so they can be powered by 5v, but you may need a logic level shifter as these displays are spec'd a a 3.3 volt logic level. They may be 5v tolerant enough to work at that level, but might fail early as a result. Many of those Nokia displays are re-cycled out of scrapped cell-phones so they are actually used but mounted on new circuit boards. Many are not soldered to the boards, electrical contact being made only by spring tension. I've had to rebend the mounting ears to put more pressure on the connections, without this the displays were intermittent in operation.

    Thanks for the info. This video brings up more questions for me. Once I have selected a size and resolution for my tft lcd display, what is the best controller type to use for esp8266 Node MCU and/or Wemo D1? I have seen ili9481, spi, ST7735, and others. I wish to use a 3.5" tft lcd for my next Node MCU project. Which display type would be under $20/€18.78. I won't need animations, or quick screen updates.
    Thanks for your consideration.

    Hi, i'm currently working on a prototype project where i have to use at least 4 displays. currently i use the 0.96" ones, but the are way to small. the displays should primary show a static text.
    So i would like to use some with good readability. i'm thinking of a 3.2" TFT display or some e-paper ones. What would you suggest? is it possible to use multiple of these screens with only one arduino? And does one of the big displays use the i2c protocol because i'm very limited at available pins. thanks in advance

My Screen is a 2.8" TT LCD Shield (hx8347g) and I can't make it do anything. I have tried for days. I got the hx8347 ccp and h files and all but to no avail. I have been searching for a large Nokia 51 style display, like A6 paper size, or similar. There is e-paper, but its refresh rate is too slow. I need something with low power and that is soft for the eyes, prefer to use switchable (back)light if light is needed.

    Hi, what about the really cheap 2 and 4 line LCD displays? (Hitachi HD44780U also known as 1602 or 1604) for like $1.5. They are text only but good for some tasks like the FM radio.

      Well I agree with all you say except about getting better for the money... I don't know where you can get something better for less than $1.30? At the moment I can get a 16 x 2 lince LCD from eBay for $1.30 including free shipping! That's why its worth it :)

    • @ArcanePath360
      @ArcanePath360 6 лет назад

      These displays take more power than my 3" OLED Nextion, which is insane, and they have a big footprint for the resolution and poor viewing angle. I had 2 and had nothing but trouble with them because of how cheap and nasty they are. They need about a billion solder points and miles of wiring and if there was one bad solder, good luck finding it! I never tried an I2C one.
