+Jayro Ayala thank you. I made it in the fly. When my mom asked me to do it I started with a chisel and hammer then figured why don't I melt this off. Thought of the methods and decided why don't I make a video on this. So, I'm glad you got something out of it. Thank you for watching and don't forget to subscribe.
Good. Sheesh. Had me nervous. The heat gun is really the fastest way. It’s really incredible that people are still watching this video after so many years. Thanks. I appreciate it.
Same here. I spent an evening, got one tile off & the glue is still on the floor and pulls my shoe off, if I accidentally step on it🤭 I looking forward to getting the rest of them up cleanly, now. Thank-you.
Finally, a dude who actually does this for real instead of some staged BS in a studio. I needed real world info and you delivered. You rock, my friend. Subscribed.
I was facing this daunting task yesterday. Thank you so much for your instructions. It worked!! U used a hand held hair dryer to heat and remove each tile one at a time. The tiles came up SOOOOO much easier than the last time I did this!! The last time it was an absolute treacherous mess!!! This time I was able to lift and remove the tiles with minimal effort!! I was still left with the sticky mess on my plywood floor. However, I sprinkled baking soda over the entire floor and used a broom to spread it. Immediately the stickiness disappeared. I then swept up all the baking soda and cleaned the floor with a damp rag or mop to get rid of the baking soda. Thanks again, sir!!!
Tip: Installing Vinyl Plank Flooring Waterproof in existing bath with peel and stick tile. (no use for glue remover underlayment is your choice.) Take up tile, dust the floor with flour use a scrub brush in a circular motion The flour will dry up the glue, sweep up mop easy and lay the planks. Maybe paint the floor to help seal. I watched the floor guy work concrete after removing tile he swept up dirt from other parts of work area threw it on glue and floor buffed with wire brush. Said he used also used fine sand. That’s where I got the flour idea I used in our bathroom worked quite well. Wife told me to use all Purpose flour, self-rising might cause the new floor to buckle. After 30 years you learn to say ok Honey and nothing else.
Finally an honest and actual method on removing the tiles. Each video shows that chisel method and they seem to be able to remove the tiles with ease. Yeah, if only it were true. The Trafficmaster titles I have for over 10 years are like so strong or stuck to the concrete floor can't even remove a penny-size piece. Thank you!!
Now this is a damn good video. Straight to the point with options and an on hands demonstration. Perfect video Allan and thanks, you just made my whole job a lot easier. Thanks!
This was the most helpful of all demonstrations. A safe and effective way was the hot air blower. You have to be more experienced ,or on a concrete surface to use the propane torch.
When you pulled out that torch dude I thought oh shit!! Here we go! LMAO! Then I thought wait a minute..I bet this a comedic skit ..the next thing he shows is him standing outside his house in flames and looking at the inferno saying to the camera now thats the wrong way! LOL.
I have to take off some floor tiles but I would be terrified of using a torch and starting a fire. LOL I think I will just use the heat gun, it's a very effective method and a lot safer. Thanks for the video! :)
Actually if your putting down another type of laminate like the faux wood laminate in that box u got or even the snap in wood flooring, or another type of 12 inch square laminate, you can go right over this vinyl, only reason you wouldnt, is if there was mold, puckered spots, ripped spots, etc., and I think the milky substance one comment is referring to is the moisture barrier your supposed to lay down on the wood before putting anything on, and your also supposed to put down some backing for the locking wood flooring, some have it built in to the wood planks now, just peel off the backing.
LINDA MARINO Thank you for watching the video. I appreciate it. And thank you for your input it’s much appreciated. I chose not to go over because prior home owners have the tendency to repeat this practice. It’s a way to get the job done faster but if I where to put someone to do this for me I wouldn’t want them to just go over what’s currently on the floor. I think that’s lazy (no offense to you and i hope that none was taken) when i renovated my bathroom in my house i have to jack hammer threw three layers of tile. I just don’t think it’s a good practice. Remove and replace is what I personally like to do. The only real two benefits would be to possible have more insulation or to get the job done faster but I personally am a-pose to this practice. The laminate i used in this video had the built in backing you where referring to. Very good valid points you made and in some cases I would consider going over the material but if i can i would almost always out with the old. Thank you for watching. Thanks again for your input. I appreciate it.
This took me from almost an hour to remove one stupid tile to less than a minute per tile... using my hair dryer and flathead chisel with virtually no effort!! Heat... how common sense! LOL Thx so much dude!!
Your welcome. Thank you for watching. Don’t forget to like the video and subscribe to the channel. It helps me out a lot. I appreciate you. Glad i could help.
Ii've just had under house pipe leak consequently floor board soaked wet. Need to dry out by lifting vinyl adhesive exactly as your vid. I've rung flooring places that sell vinyl flooringl but no-one knew how to lift vinyl off. One tiler suggested heat gun. Said chisel & hammer would take all day. So I turned to internet. First I saw. Thanks.
Well done, good video my friend. I need a heat gun and a proper floor tile blade to get my old lino floor up from our kitchen here in France. The glue they used seems to be nuclear strength and has been there for probably 40 years.
HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE LEFTOVER ADHESIVE/GLUE?? WHOA! I f anyone had used a stripper or acetone you’d blow the place up! I know as I do woodwork INSIDE sailboats!
Helen Eschenbacher if you need to have a floor with none of the residue on it I would suggest taking up the entire floor and replacing it. To clean that stuff off would be way to time consuming and any solution used that is powerful enough to remove that stuff would be to hazardous. I removed mine and put laminate down on top of it.
Omg .this is just wot i need to do .iam 65 ' and have been looking at broken tiles for a long time ....thanx for this ' iam off to buy heat gun ....wow 👌😉
Tbanks for the lesson! Does this technique also not leave behind any glue residue to scrape off later? In other words, does it take off the glue fairly clean? Thanks!
Thanks man. I've been fighting this. Didn't think of a heat gun. I wanted to use a torch. Wife said no. I'd burn the dam house down. Thanks for the video.
This is awesome. Such a variety of things to finsd on your page. I was actually looking to remove th tile from my bathroom and this might just ve the tool i needed thank you.
Just curious how old that floor is that you’re doing? After we took ours up there was a shit ton of glue still stick to the ground. We just laid new sticky tile over everything after we got the tiles up and swept a bit.
What A lifesaver lol I see that vinyl tile was everyone’s favorite back in the day 😆 my grandmas house has the living room done & kitchen same style as yours.
Nice job. When I pull up sticky tiles there is a very sticky residue. I noticed there didn't seem to be any on your floor and the tiles were very dry and brittle. Do you know what to do about the stick residue. I have changed them out over the years but now I want to put down planking but I don't know what to do about the residue and where the tiles come together is sometimes raised. This was helpful. However, I don’t have either of the the heat tools and needed a solution immediately. The idea that popped in my head while watching this was a steamer. I have a small handheld steamer. The tiles were very old and the glue that was used to attach them to the wooden floor boards had turned to a black sticky tar like substance. Heating the tiles with the steamer worked immediately.

Thank you so much for posting this video. I bought a bunch of trafficmaster groutable vinyl tile and found that I needed two more boxes, however Shaw Industries discontinued the product and now I have an almost done kitchen floor that I have to rip up and start over. I'm sure this will help me on the sticky vinyl part of the job.
serenity1107 sorry for the delayed response. I never saw this. My apologies. I'm not sure if this would work for those school floors. I have never tried it.
I took of sticky tile and I did it the first was but then my dad told me to do the heating thing of u don't have a blow torch or the thing from lowes I definetly recommended a blow dryer works the same
of all the floor removal videos this is the most realistic one

🙏thank you. that's what people need. Everyone is not a professional.
Fr the other ones I’ve watched the tiles come off to easily
Agreed! This is clear and to the point as a how to video! Thank you!
OMG, I have the exact tile on my floor and have been struggling with method 1, Now I am going to use my heat gun. Thank you so much!
Stacie Van Patten your welcome.
I frickin love your vid’s! What not to do-how to do..you’re genuine, funny & a great teacher! Ty🤩
nice trick Allan! thanks for sharing
This right here is right on for me. Thank you so much.
I have the exact same tile in my laundry room it is awful to chisel little piece by little piece! That blowtorch will definitely do the job.
Noooo. Don’t do the blow torch. Lol. Too dangerous. Please. Don’t to it.
@@adubbproductions I'm just kidding of course. I do have the hand held heater but even then it is painfully slow!!!

Awesome, thank you for showing that. :)

Thank you for this info.🙏🥰
Nice trick Allan!!! Getting ready to do the same type of project thanks for the DIY video
I did this on concrete floor . And the adhesive is a pain to remove after you take the tile pieces off

definitely not recommend.
Awesome video... thanks.

Hey , just curious...Would a hot blowdryer have the same effect ?
+Mary Brady I think it would work it would just take a bit longer maybe because it doesn't get as hot as a heat gun. But it should work.
I just tried it with a hairdryer on high setting, and it worked like a charm!
For me it didn''t. Then again I have these wood Trafficmaster titles from Home Depot...they have so much adhesive on them it is nuts.
Thank you so much for putting this out there for us! Getting ready to do the same thing and I was dreading it. But not now. Thanks again man.

I wouldn't suggest that or put it out there. Some people on here might actually try it. Good sense of humor though.

Like ur attitude brother but cut the tile in half with a blade and use a 4in scraper cuts the time down.
Banard Panoid thank you. Appreciate the advise. Will try it next time.
that was a cool video
+Nearfaded thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
What did you do about the sticky floors after removing the sticky tiles? Did you just install laminate flooring after without it being a problem?
You got me excited to want to tackle my kitchen floor now!! I got a hair dryer, but I want that heat gun!!! Thanks 💚
They're like 20-30 bucks and last forever
You just saved my shoulder a tonne of agony! Thanks! This stuff is the worst! I cannot wait to get it all out of my house! TFS

Is there glue still on the sub floor after u remove the sticky tile? And how could I get off a tile and grout floor? Thanks awesome video!
Sadly the tiles on the floor we are dealing with are thicker and more brittle, even when softened, the technique works but nowhere near as easy.
Would go with a pry bar. That flame is getting awfully close to your hands
We used a fuckin paint scraper and hammer for hours taking it up. It was a big room
What if someone talked you into putting two layers of the bastards down?
Funny that my definition of easy is not the same.
For me easy is not to take almost a minute (which he says 2 seconds) to remove a full tile.
But to actually take 2 or 3 seconds with a sturdy trowel.
I used parchment paper and a iron. More simple, less dangerous.
May not be the safest way but that sure looks like the quickest way to me thanks for sharing
How do you remove the adhesive that's left from the sticky tile?
Very helpful , Great video - Thanks
I'm flag I saw this. Thanks for the tips. Can't wait to start on my floors.👍
This is genius. I bought chemicals, everything and it was hardly coming up. Thanks you!

Wow that sounds like a nightmare. Good luck and I'm glad I could be of assistance.
Hello, I used my iron and it came up but... I see it can take time to do all of it. Can i use hot water to loosen the vinyl tile?
Wow great job I don’t do it but like to watch guys doing construction work
this EXACT stupid tile in is my bedroom and I hate it so much🤢
Did you post a video of you installing the new flooring?
Brilliant deffo the best video out there. Ur awesome ♡
Very helpful. Will a hair dryer work well but take a little longer?
Works great! Thank you for this!
+Brad Pippin no problem. Glad it helped.
Is the glue not sticky. How do you remove the glue?
My tiles are peeling up already without anything.
Can you start anywhere on the floor or do you need to start in a corner? Awesome stuff man.
Thanks
No problem. 👍🏾
Awesome...thanks all I need now is the heating gun 👍
Thanks for your video. I’m definitely going to try this. What do you do to the floor after all the sticky tile is up?
I put laminate right back on top of it. You can put hard wood or what ever you would like. It does leave a sticky residue on the sub floor.
Thanks A-Dubb. Wish I saw this an hour ago when I started chipping away with no heat, only to get about four square feet in that time.
+Nick Klemetson lol your welcome.
Nice video, thanks for sharing the ideas.
Hey Allen, will this method work on 15 year old VCT tile?? (like what's on the floor in schools.

u must have good knees. i need kneel pads

I took of sticky tile and I did it the first was but then my dad told me to do the heating thing of u don't have a blow torch or the thing from lowes I definetly recommended a blow dryer works the same
