Thank you! And yes, looking back on the early years of having children I wish I would have had this perspective I have now! Grateful I now do - as we have one son who is almost ready to leave for college and I realize more and more how short these years really are! ❤️
I love the idea of "make your house only as difficult as it needs to be". I apply the same rule to my career, only accepting work projects and responsibilities that I wish to tackle, and to my wardrobe (no pieces require special laundering). Boundaries can be freeing as much as they are limiting.
This video is amazing!!! I love that your heart is filled with gratitude and pride. I love the word HOME MAKING - it's beautiful I'm not a servant, I'm serving - love that! Thank you!!!
Definitely it is a huge part of not getting overwhelmed! It wasn’t always this way…so I know how it feels to be mentally dealing with the chaos while also trying to do house chores. No fun at all! ❤️
I needed this today. I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday about this very thing. I’ve been feeling very overwhelmed and stressed lately about a lot of the aspects of motherhood. (Not necessarily homemaking but homeschooling, medical needs for my kids and the special diets they require, coordinating appointments, etc. on top of the regular homemaking.) And we had one of those days yesterday when nothing goes right. Four of my kids woke up with a virus, one had dental work that I had written down the wrong appointment time for, a toilet overflowed, my InstantPot broke in the middle of cooking dinner, etc. By the end of the day I was so over it, I just broke down. Then this morning you and a few other RUclipsrs I follow posted videos about this topic or similar, like finding joy in simple living. It feels like a hug from a friend and an acknowledgment from God that he heard me yesterday.
Oh man! You really did have a rough day! I’m happy to hear this one is off to a better start! Isn’t it amazing how God puts those little bits of encouragement in our lives just at the very moments we need them! I’ll be praying for you today! ❤️
Let me just acknowledge all the work you do for special diets. People who just eat normally really can’t grasp the level of work that goes into eating differently. The snacks you pack, not eating out, reading every single label on food. It can be exceptionally draining. We are 4 years in and it has gotten more simple. It’s never easy but most of life is like that. I’m glad you just went ahead and got it out of your system so you can start fresh today. 💚
If you are a person who works outside the home, you likely know the importance of scheduling. By scheduling jobs at home, it can be less stressful. Cleaning does not need to be done in one day. It can be broken into smaller jobs over several days. I found that doing one or two rooms per day often left my weekend open for other things.
Yes absolutely! And usually that’s how I do it honestly. I was just trying to show how much could physically be done in a rather short amount of time ❤️
Such an important video Angela. I loved it and 100% agree. I’m sorry that you get such pushback, but also appreciate your clear stance in your “why”. I hope people will try to reflect on how blessed we are to have a home to care for and upkeep is not a “chore” when we have curated our home with just enough. ❤❤❤
It honestly surprised me at first when I started getting those comments. I show such a small fraction of our family’s life (intentionally so) - and so it surprised me the way that people chose to ‘fill in the blanks’ ha ha! ❤️
Keeping a tidy home to me is very important for my mind, my health and I guess most importantly my stress level. When I was younger acquiring things was very important to me. Once I opened my eyes to the work more stuff involved I started looking for ways to donate much of it and simplify my days. I feel a great source of accomplishment when my home is organized. I've also learned to keep my meals simplified.
My younger self was the same way! Wanting to try this or that…now I have my product favorites and just buy the same consumable things over and over - and try to only buy non consumable things when absolutely necessary! ❤️
Your home is always a pleasure to visit. I love how you use picture frames as decor. And thanks for sharing it in real time. Those speeded up videos make me dizzy 😵

A wonderful description of homemaking. I find it a gift to care for my husband and our little house. An advantage of a tiny home is that we don't need much stuff and it doesn't take long to clean. We are so very blessed
Good morning Mighty Cottage mom = this week's video was one of the most helpful especially for cleaning..because........ the calm and ease of the video and your voice kind of stayed with me and making cleaning a little more approachable where usually
Love when you give advise while working at home. I just discovered you. Not a fan of the ones where your just talking and listing your advice. But I'm new so no need to change. Just a observation as a new viewer. ✌️
Strangely enough, those talking videos are the ones that most people watch! Which is why the YT algorithm doesn’t put out these more casual videos to as many people. I don’t do them as often for this reason, but I like to mix it up here and there! In the spring/ summer it is a lot easier to have interesting content around our home - when I’m working not only inside but outside as well ❤️ so you are likely to see a mix of styles here!
Very calm and lovely simple home. Watching you sweep the floor made me wonder if you ever thought about investing in a robot vacuum cleaner? I finally bought one a couple of years ago and I'm so glad I did cause it saved me sooo much time and effort.
I’ve really never considered it…we have a daughter who has some mobility issues - and I worry that a robot vacuum might be a tripping hazard. I could be wrong though…❤️
Not really unless you are a very light sleeper. My family sleeps fine with our robot vacuum in another room. But it may hit a chair or door once in a while, so you will hear a very light bang every now and then 😆 Don't worry, not a loud bang at all. @@ArrowHillCottage
@@ArrowHillCottageLove making beds as well. I spent a lot of my childhood in Europe as an Army Brat and loved seeing the bedding draped over the windowsills in the morning to be aired out. No screens, alas!
Our master bedroom bed frame is actually NEW, not antique. It’s sort of a dark bronze color. Our girls both have antique cast iron bed frames that we painted black. ❤️
I think the issue arises when families have dependent children and the mother is expected to continue working at least until she gets them to bed (plus is always on-call throughout the night) and the father has the mindset that he's done for the day when he gets home from work.
I could see that being a struggle for some people. So thankful my husband has always been super involved with the kids. When he would get home from work when they were young- he would immediately take them off my hands for a while and do something fun with them. ❤️
Well that would be awesome to have that kind of mindset, almost impossible to get there when you are as old as dirt and I do not like housework and feeling like a slave! ❤
I feel like my home owns me. Well you know why. Lol. Sometimes tho it’s more like I feel like the cats own me. Or difficulty with communicating what I want. At times a general lack of faith that such a person even exists much less that I’d find them and they’d be willing/able. Bcuz I also think the main other thing is that things DO go downhill if I am not here (such as taking a trip etc). At times I feel like it’s so hard to ever leave or drop it or even just make a planned exit and get out of here. Then I complain that I’m chained to the house/cats). I prob also exaggerate in my mind about “how hard it will be to catch up” after I’ve been gone for awhile. Or I just worry too much about my fur babies when I’m not there. But for real a lot of these tips have already helped me so much and pretty much have saved my sanity. (I used to also fight the whole “woman in the kitchen where she belongs” crap in my head lol). Now if some low ego entitled man has some kind of attitude and starts talking about women in the 50’s I prob WOULD get mad about that tho. 😅😅 But yah. For that sort of thing I usually just remind them that the standards of the 50s need to go both ways. (Men being good providers, protectors and having more chaste morals and reverence for God, be more marriage and family minded etc). Not just one way. Bcuz as a single in today’s world. These blokes be wanting wifey material without performing hubby duties. They seem to just wanna get free milk without having to buy the cow…forever….as they say. So I’m single bcuz I’m just not down for that. I could be down for a much higher level of service…IF the other end of the bargain was truly being met tho. (Such as a woman’s primal need for safety and security…which involves a loyal commitment to her). 😊
Yes that’s a very good point. There can be a terrible double standard when it comes to couples and how they are ‘expected’ to treat each other or act. Being single on purpose, for this reason, seems wise. Ha ha! But, maybe someday your Prince Charming will come along and sweep you off your feet! ❤️

I really DO think people like me (all up in my head, overthinking, extra cautious etc) need to just throw caution to the wind sometimes. So yah. Ready or not here I go. I think the hook for me was this whole idea of “carb/protein flipping” or confuse your sluggish metabolism. I figure ok tho. So this is part of my mental health journey also really. Being more fit. Eating better. Paying more attention to my body. Investing in my own well being in a very concrete way. And also working smart not hard. Ha ha. I have a coach now and free supplements and a nutritionist working on my “custom” case. (Fascinating tho. Bcuz you can’t help but delve into your “self” Bcuz they’re like list all the foods you hate. List all the foods you like. What’s the most fun exercise for you? What exercise do you hate the most? And so on). I think if this was “wrong” or if I was just some silly fool letting people take my money I would not have such a good internal feeling about it. But anyways. Sorry to go on again. But like I said. Triggers suck but they often wind up taking me next level in some ironic way. The whole point being I guess would be something like me saying to others….sorry. Can’t help you right now. I’m too busy studying my “better life” materials, working out, cooking, counting macros, learning about supplements, meal planning, meeting with my coach etc to go take care of YOUR problems that aren’t MY problems. 😂😂 And I think that’s why I’m laughing about it. Like saying very loudly…go away users. I am no longer that codependent that is so easy to use and abuse anymore. I like it also Bcuz it’s a “doable lifestyle reset” as opposed to a fad diet or such.
You shouldn’t have to explain you doing the homemaking. Those people that make those comments… Get a life! Some people like myself actually enjoy doing house making tasks. I always believed that’s what I was meant to do, I get real enjoyment out of taking care of my home and my family.
I know I don’t have to explain it. I was just hoping that if there was anyone watching that had also been told similar things, they would know they aren’t alone. My husband and I have pretty traditional ‘gender roles’ when it comes to house chores. We like it that way - and that honestly makes people really mad for some reason! ❤️
I totally get why you did put it in the video… Empowerment is a strong thing! Honestly, those people that have negative comments… Really should just stay in their own lane.
@@ArrowHillCottageI think she is referring to bottom watering. Letting them soak up the water they need. I personally tried this and it did not work for me! I bring mine to the sink, but I “shower them” I keep them in plastic nursery pots and then they go into ceramic pots for aesthetic purposes. I soak them thoroughly and then let all the water drain from the bottom and then place them back in their ceramic pots. And let them dry out completely and repeat! This personally works best for me and my pants! I have had mine for many years and I have quite a large “indoor garden” I call it, with many succulents also! I hope the original commenter replies what her methods are! I love hearing plant care tips! ❤ Oh and I almost forgot pants are SO adaptable, which is amazing! I keep my home on the cool side around 15 degrees Celsius and mine have adapted and all my orchids are currently blooming! 😊
@@ronnie-lynn Succulents need watering very little ...two to three weeks, or they rot off. Water in pot plants is only stored in the roots in the bottom couple of inches, watering from the top over waters them...poor things. As roots know best what they want..Stand plants in a plant saucer, water minimally, then when water residue is left, roots have had enough. But , bear in mind, I am in UK and plants and conditions will differ, am guessing. My parents and grandparents were avid gardeners..indoor and out, and this is the method I was taught. But if your plants aren't dying off...carry on what you are doing!!
I have had a dying off thing happen to one of my succulents a couple years back- perhaps it was because of what you say! These have been doing well but I will try your technique out! Thanks! ❤️

That’s awesome! I know you will have tons of success and feel great!! A healthy life reset is a good way to look at it! ❤️

Why you don’t were sleepers?
I personally just don’t like them ❤️
Oops... where as usually I'm a little outmatched

Never, ever water plants from the top, especially succulents
Oh really?! Give me all the tips! I’m not very well versed in plant care, clearly! I’m just happy they are still living! Ha ha! ❤️
Oh and I almost forgot pants are SO adaptable, which is amazing! I keep my home on the cool side around 15 degrees Celsius and mine have adapted and all my orchids are currently blooming! 😊
Oh very interesting! ❤️
Thanks! ❤️
