I would like a plug to hide the electric connections on my Hailong downtube battery bracket to keep it from moisture and muck when the battery is off the bike. I know they are available for other types of battery, but not mine!
I used a Custom Freewheel and Cassette lockring Removal Tool with 14mm opening for Rear Hub Motors Dimensions: 25mm x 43mm for my bafang 750w. I drilled the inside just a little and broke about 3 dents. That was fine because the nut enter completely inside the tool. Having the freewheel separated from the hub I could reach inside the flywheel. I fixed the flywheel joint with the cover into a clamping fixture and used an impact drill to unscrew the flywheel. Thank you very much!
2:01 to see the problem drilling a standard FR-1.3 freewheel removal tool out so it you can fix the cable through the tool. 2:24 to see the problem they had with splitting a standard FR-1.3 freewheel removal tool to get it around the cable. 6:35 to see where their FR-1.3 freewheel removal tool really does fit right over the Bafang 750 cable connector and connector nut.
I’m glad you solved this problem for us. 7th gear on my RadRover wore out and I waited weeks for a removal tool from Rad (it was on back order), then I couldn’t get the freewheel off with it. Headed over to place my order now.
Great job! As a retired (after 45 years) machinist, I enjoyed watching the process and seeing the many revisions that ultimately resulted in a working and much needed tool. This video answered any questions that I had. Thank you. Ordering one TODAY.
I modified a cassette tool by machining a 1/4" slit. It solved the issue of getting past the wire but the splined section of the tool is very thin and under high torque would spring inward and slip. I placed a small piece of 1/4" steel into the slit to keep it from "springing" and that worked, but was very awkward. The Bolton tool is the proper solution and is offered at a very fair price. Well done. (I bought one even though I don't need it)!
Your awesome bro, thank you! I stick the tool into a vice and lay the wheel down onto the tool and use the wheel as leverage to brake loose the freewheel, turn it counter clockwise I believe, its easier then using a wrench in my opinion.
We never used a wrench on one of those tools. Putting a wrench on that tool and wrestling around with a loose wheel would indeed take two guys and one of them stands a chance of being hurt. We always clamped the tool into a vise then lowered the wheel onto the tool. Only takes one mechanic to grab both sides of the wheel and turn counterclockwise. Much safer.
Great Job!!! I needed this a few months ago lol. I had this issue trying to replace my shimano freewheel with a DNP freewheel on my Himiway. The other Freewheel Removal Tools could not slide over the 19mm nut. Great Job again.
I also want to replace the freewheel on my Himiway for a higher and lower gear ratio. It's frustrating to be peddling like crazy at 20 mph. Himiway will not honor their warranty if you modify your bike.
I just bought it from bolton bikes and freewheel his customer service is very good they shipped the wrong item and he reshipped the right one in 2 days. !
What about if i have a rad rover and therefore i dont have a true 750 watt motor, its the stock 500 one, does this work for switching out the old one and putting in a true 750 watt bafang??
I was going to do a similar video and looks like you did an amazing job. I have a Hovsco Ranger with a Sutto 500w. I wonder if you're tool will fit over the connector shell they use on that. I cut a .41 slot out of a fr-1.3, then cut a "wedge" to tap in to keep it expanded. That's actually what they do in the China shop. I have a video. They later sent.
Great Job!!! Is the power cable of the Bafang 750 hub motor thicker than the Bafang 500 hub motor power cable? I replaced my shimano freewheel with a DNP freewheel on a Bafang 500 hub motor and I could easily slide a regular freewheel removal tool through the power cable.
CNC machinist here. Run a Mazak nexus 250-msy with a sub spindle and live tooling with barfeeder for lights out production. What’s the run time on that part? 3-4min?
This is genius, wish i would have had this a month ago when I switched out my cassette on my himiway. I cut the tool with a grinder and it wouldn’t grip so I had to open up and destroy my old cassette. This awesome tool would have saved the poor shimano’s life!
YO YO Kyle Area 13 u da man top ebike specialists and business man can you tell me what RadPower ebikes will the 750 Watt upgrade motor fit in? Will it fit in the new RadPower RadExpand ebike?
$50?? Bit hefty don’t you think? You can get a custom made one from Rad Power Bikes for $15 +$10 shipping, so $25 by itself. Bundle it with something else like I did (extra battery charger) and the shipping charge isn’t so bad. If you email them and ask for one and any other items you may want, they can send you a direct invoice. The tool from them has a section cut out of it so you can slide the wiring through, so you would have to make sure you put the tool in a baggie afterwards so you don’t lose the parts. This one by Area13 is one piece so that may be worth the extra $35 to some? Just another option for those looking. Good luck!
I just ordered one of these. I tried slotting a regular freewheel removal tool, but it collapsed and slipped as soon the torque began to get heavy. I ended up cutting the old freewheel off with an angle grinder and cutting disc. Avoiding damage to the hub was like trying to perform surgery with an axe, but I went painfully slow and managed to pull it off without injury to me or the hub.
I recently purchase a himiway cobra and quickly learned the stock gearing sucks, which leaves me shopping for an 11-32 freewheel. The motor says himiway and I assume it's just a rebranded befang, however they were smart in running the wire on the opposite side.
I just took a standard freewheel tool, put it in a socket wrench, held the wrench with my foot so it didn't move and used a grinding drill bit to drill through the middle. 3 minutes job
I've been imagining this very thing. I'm gonna try a few solutions and see what happens but I may need to buy that tool. Are you guys getting better delivery times?
Just want to mention , something similar on you car is your oxygen sensors on your exhuast have a similar problem because the sensor has a wire in the middle the socket they use is close but is taller a little thicker all round and has a cut out about half way up the socket, just something to look at if compay put different size plugs on the ebikes.
Well, we received the tool today and I wish it was the same as the one in this video. Ours would not fit over the 18mm axle nut so we had to dremel the insides a bit to get it to slip over. Once inside it refused to fit the freewheel splines. We tried it on another freewheel and it would also not fit. We compared it to a Park Tool FR-1.3 and the splines do not match up.
My (7000 miles) Radwagon4 750w motor is working but there is no peddle assist. There is a disconnect. Is there an intermediate part that fits over axil first and then the 7 gear cassette slides over both part and axil. Can that intermediate part be ordered and be replaced? Name of part? My two-legged mule is hurting. Turns out cassette and freewheel slide on differently. Another special tool? Forum even mentioned that a spacer is required with cassette.
23 seconds into your video shows a bike on a rack with only the front wheel up. Where did you get that? The handy handlebar rack doesn't seem to be made for bikes with fenders.
Now you can make one for the single speed Radrunner freewheel. Took me a month to replace mine. Machined one Park tool and used the one from RadPower bikes. More difficult endeavor than this design.
yea , I second the bike stand , even you made upgrade parts a stand , like the park tool stand , replace some of the week parts with Aluminum . I would rather have a slightly heavy stand if would hold an E-bikes weight
Nice tool! Too bad it takes 45 days to get 1? No worries made my own in an hour it was pretty easy park tool must use good steel because mine doesn't flex or bend.. good product though kyle if you want to know the basic tools i used to make my version i'd be happy to share🍻

pretty sure the eight people or so that thumbed down this video own bike shops and would rather you just bring your bike to them and spend more money🤑 💰
What other super handy ebike tool or product do you want created and why?
An ebike repair stand for use in a shop. One large enough to raise the bike to at least waist level and that can handle the weight of the ebikes.
@@jgjulio This would be something I’d be interested in. Something so strong it would never drop an 80 lbs bike.
I would like a plug to hide the electric connections on my Hailong downtube battery bracket to keep it from moisture and muck when the battery is off the bike. I know they are available for other types of battery, but not mine!
I have a crudely made one from a hollow piece of rubber. Something a bit more professional would be great.
I’ll second a bike repair stand. One simple, but sturdy enough to handle the job.
The cool thing about Bolton is he adds so much value to the ebike community. You can tell he really cares. Thanks 👊🏽

You put an awful lot of work into this. I just placed my order for one. Thanks so much for engineering this for your customers.
Our pleasure!
I cannot believe some bird brains have a thumbs down well done on your innovation.
Thanks for watching. It really is an awesome tool
Watched half the video. Paused. Went to your site and put my order in. Then went back and finished the video. Thanks for making this tool.

Thx, for anyone like me with an engineer background. it was KISS eye candy to see the process to create it and the final produce.
Just viewed the entire video. Completely worth it, impressive design and must have tool!

1. Don't dremel the tool file the corners of the nut if you must.

The Shimano MF-TZ500-7, same as the one you have in your video. The axle nut looks the same too. Did you file the corners of the nut?

Home-made hacked together tools that kind of worked.

you wouldn't even need to slide it over the nut, its basically a socket with a slot in the side for the wire really it would be a lot easer.

we ordered one from area13 but it got cancelled hope you can hook us up as we really need this in the Philippines.
