This is a beautiful movie. You are absolutely correct about Walt. Walt said he fixes things and this was his last fix. He was dying and he knew it. He wanted to die for something. Tao's family became his new family, one that accepted him, and one that he came to deeply care for. He had a lot of guilt about what happened during the war. This was his way to save Tao and his family through his sacrifice because he knew that thyey no chance otherwise. He died with meaning and honor.
Walt was very flawed (we all are) I don't disagree with his interactions with his male friends..( that is how Men bond & relate ) I do disapprove baggin on females...Also i don't see him as racist..The 3 B. M..on the corner were the only racist..
With all due respect, I disagree. Walt was racist even up to the end and he was a good man. That's part of what makes his character so interesting to watch. He's allowed to be multiple contradictory things at the same time: he uses racial epithets all the time AND sacrifices his life to protect a community of Hmong people; he disdains the church and the young priest, but also respects it enough (because of his wife) to leave them some money in his will and go to the priest for a confession before confronting the gang members. I'm not saying I'd get along with a old man like Walt in real life (odds are, we wouldn't get along), but he's a damn compelling character to watch on screen. Thanks for commenting. Hope you stick around.
@wannawatchamovie . Imho..The real racist in this film, are the 3 b. m on the corner.. Walt only spit words to all peoples '..The 3 b.m got physical & life threatening
@@wannawatchamovie- No, Walt is no t a racist. He gives respect if he gets it. He talks to EVERYONE with those “racial epithets”, no matter if they are black, white, hispanic, Asian, etc. Are we supposed to think that Walt is racist against his Italian barber friend and the Irish construction worker, because he calls them names as well. Walt uses that language to keep people away. He’s an emotionally damaged person, suffering from PTSD. He only went to confession with the priest to satisfy his wife’s wishes. His real confession was to Thao on the basement stairs. It’s even shot with a screen between them, just like a confessional.
