  • In this Clay Clip, I'll show you several things. We'll throw a 2 and a half pound storage jar, keeping the rim rather thin, and learn how to create a rolled gallery. Then, we'll throw the lid - off the hump!

What a great idea to keep sizes, consistent on the half inch mark. I love it!
Grateful for all of your generosity and demonstrations. 👍🏽🙋🏻‍♀️🙏🏽

Today I decided to throw some sourdough starter jars for Christmas presents..and then when I got to the top of the jar it became glaringly obvious that I I don't know how to throw the gallery portion. After muddling through 3 jars, I did a search on RUclips and this is the first video that popped up. It is so helpful! I can't wait to get another studio day to try out your technique.

I am binge watching all your wonderful videos prior to starting my wheel classes next week. You were the only one recommended by my teacher and I see why she loves your techniques. Thank you.

I just found your videos and I think they’re very well done! I’m in my 60’s and just made my first bowls on a wheel and I’m completely hooked!

I made jars by throwing a thick rim, and pushing down on it with my pinky to make a flange, but this looks way nicer.
Also, making a lid that way looks much easier than what I was doing XD
    Thanks for the video :)

i love the idea of doing same sized lids and storing fired ones to glaze later i might have to start doing that

For those asking about trimming the lid....what we were taught in college, was to flip lid upside down unto the jar, using clay bits to hold it there while you trim the extra clay from underneath. Thanks Bill for your common sense approach to throwing. I continue to learn new techniques from you!

Is there a 'cavity' under the gallery? If so that looks like an impediment to pouring and also a place that might be hard clean or easily forgotten when cleaning.

The area under the flange that you rolled in looks like it might be difficult to clean, like stuff could get stuck up in there. Does it?
