Since Magneto can control electrons, he can give the sensation of touching Rogue, but they aren't actually touching on an atomic level so she doesn't drain him.
I’ve also seen it explained that rouges powers are also magnetic in nature, which sort of makes senses given the electrical nature of the neuron in our brains ) so he is able to, as the master of magnetism, cancle out her draining ability. But you know how it is in comics explanations change from writer to writer. Plus for all I know that explanation could have been pure fannon lol
I mean, there could be multiple explanations: my guess currently is that Jean actually was replaced after her death at the end of the Dark Phoenix Saga, as a sort of retcon for her surviving in the original show… Could be wrong but we’ll see.
I remember in the comics also the character Joseph, who was a clone of Magneto, had a relationship with Rogue. I think they're building to a backstory reveal that Rogue was in a brief relationship with Magneto before the events of the series.
I have never loved Magneto more as a character on screen than in this one episode of tv! He still is the same man we knew as the antagonist in the original series, but to honor the memory and legacy of Charles Xavier, he is trying to be a better version of himself. It even reflects in his new uniform, it’s no longer armored or intimidating, a symbol that he is willing to change.
Storm's arc "Lifedeath' is coming soon in this season. She is going to be so pivotal this season. Also Magneto's journey and his connection with Rogue and they were close, and her helping him to be a better man, also suggesting him to gain the trust of the X-Men.
6:10 Surprisingly, sometimes it's posssible. In the original series, Sabertooth & Mystque had a son, and he was human. He's even part of the mutant hate group, F.O.H
The clone of Magneto was named Joseph. Magneto has had a relationship with Rogue in the same world. In the same universe/world that debuted Morph's comic counterpart, Magneto and Rogue were married and had a son. So, Marvel has toyed with this pairing before.
@@andrewnaftel5533 I believe so I was reading more of X-Factor which was the 5 original X-Men back then. Ironically Forge did develop the original weapon that took her powers he never intended for it to be used on her though.
one of storm's biggest storylines is called Lifedeath, it's about her trying to adjust to having her powers taken (protecting rogue in the comics). I'm excited to see where they take that storyline here (because there are some things missing from that storyline in this show, like forge being in the present).
I agree with you guys, this series is hitting all the right spots in my feels, & yes for a while in the comics Storm lost her powers that's where her Mohawk look came from, also Rouge and Magneto were actually married in the Age of Apocalypse story arc, & Mister Sinister cloned Jean in the comics her name was Madelyn Pryor who Scott married & she gave birth to Cable & latter she became a character called Goblin Queen.

To answer your original question, I saw a lot of the X-Men movies and I recently watched about three episodes in the first season, but haven't watched much, if any, of the original cartoon beyond that. I don't really feel like I'm behind or not able to follow what's going on because the show tells me very well what I need to know from before without belaboring the point too much, and the show has its own story lines and relationships that are compelling even without the backstory. Loving this show a lot!
Yeah it's the difference between Nathaniel summers and nate Grey they have similar power sets but there's a slight difference in attitude Madeline prior and Scott are cables parents ... Jean and several others are nates parents
Don’t want to give anything away. But if you read the X-men comics that ending is a huge impact on everything . Man I’m feeling like a 12 year old like I was when I watched the original series man can’t wait for the rest of the season
I was actually cheering when magneto saved the morlocks..👍🏻 finally acknowledging them. I love the X-Men and the original was awesome, but this new 97 is absolutely brilliant 👍🏻 they're finally using their powers in a cool creative way..I love it.. Storm eventually gets her power back. It was like that in the books. I don't recall the storyline, but storm definitely gets her power. Mutants rule💪🏻(X) be cool guys... cheers
I cried when storm lost her power. It’s so ironic when she telling Jean how to be a human and now she will be experiencing it. The speech of Magneto is so Good. The dialogue and choice of words it really hits and good. I'm so happy to see other mutants through Morph they did amazing to his character and powers. So excited for the next episode. thank you for your wonderful reaction Very informative and I do really enjoy it!
Storm losing her powers here is a variant of what happened to her in the comics with Forge's Neutralizer. The episode list says they're adapting a version of Lifedeath where Storm comes to terms with losing her powers. We know she got them back eventually, so we'll have to see how it goes here.
That was a funny moment with Jean and Logan. I also the sweet moment with Jean and Storm. The twist in the end was shocking. This episode never disappoint!!!
Pretty much when you're an old school X-Men collector then this is all old news but it's so awesome to see it animated and the way they did it was amazing.
Top 10 reactions, love it! And yes, everything that you wonder if it happened in the comics, it did. However, they had a few very good twists that worked really well. From Storm losing her powers (it is part of the comics), "second" Jean is from the comics, as well but I am not going to spoil, at all. And yes, Magneto and Rogue were a thing at one point in the comics but for a very short time.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought it was a shock move to leave NOTHING to the XMen after serving Prof X for years. Like EVERYTHING went to Magneto? Even the XMen seemed to be given to Magneto like they were property. It was bizarre. he could have given Scott like a couple $100k for loyal service.
The original story of Storm losing her powers was one of their comics arc when the government kidnapped the mutant Forge and stole a weapon he created that can take mutant powers away which was used on Storm... she was the first victim of it
Gambit should've just went after storm she needs a friend now plus Remy and storm have fooled around as well. They even have a baby together.... In another universe 😊
Magneto and rogue had a baby named magnus in the exiles comic book he died on the first mission that he lead which cements blink as the de-facto leader
Now you know what movie fans had to go through, in the early days of sound movies. Come back next week to this theater. To see how this cliffhanger turns out!
As an old skool X-Men comic fan it's great to see so much of the comic adapted, as near as possible, to the cartoon universe., so we have to remind ourselves that you haven't that knowledge and if we were there with you we'd sit ln our hands trying not to X-plain the references or spoil subplots they're lifting from the source material, including Rogue and Magneto's.. erm, history 😉
with madelyne pryor storyline incoming in this series i have no clue what comic storyline they are going to lean on considering there are only 10 episodes in season 1, with additional characters such as nightcrawler to be added as another main cast and team on x-men, forge coming back, emma frost and sebastian shaw, and possible apocalypse and mystique appearing in the last episodes... My guess is that: with the last scene with gambit feeling betrayed by rogue, he will probably betray the team leading him to mr. sinister and possible leading the *marauders* to get nathan (cable) for sinister's experiment... also with bishop on the team, he is probably watching Gambit on the sides...concerning the future/betrayal...perhaps storm will get his powers back later on probably with the help of forge... i'm not a comic book expert, i just read some comics way back when with my cousins collection of comic books and i happen to read some of that, forgot what comic issue but i hope they do justice in this series... i loved the dialogue of magneto and storm at the end...great writing indeed... i miss this kind of animation, just pure and simple...
The return for new episodes of X-Men '97 is being praised to the point, A live action X-Men movie or series is going to be have a serious handicap, to being accepted by fans. It just means they have to wait even longer before we see new live action X-Men in movies.
Honestly, while I was absolutely stoked when the first two movies came out, the third movie, and the inconsistent quality have really zapped any excitement I could feel for live-action adaptations. 'Logan' was an exception, but any new live-action adaptations really, really have to prove to me as to why I should even bother.
So far from what I've seen via other reactions, the only "Previously on..." thing so far has been in the show recap primer/trailer where they went over the major plot points of the old show to give context for what this show will (likely) bring to the table. SO if you're wondering on if super newcommers will be confused, they will be only if they didn't watch that primer.
Storm losing her powers and living life as a human is a great choice. Would be nice to get the perspective of "feeling left behind by mutants" from others than just villains, and Ororo can now give us that perspective.
In the comics it took Charles death for Magneto to realise that Charles was right and that Magneto's 'War On Sapiens' was counterproductive and led to more mutant deaths than trying to live in peace with them. It's possible that Charles realised the same thing would happen hear which is why he made sure Magneto would have a reason to join the X-men after his death.
The Rogue and Magneto relationship always icks me out when it pops up, she around the same age as his daughters. On top of that, he probably met her while she still was a teen living with Mystique in this show.
RIGHT!!!🤢🤢🤮 It had my mind so scrambled I can't stand that's actually in the comics I never knew that at all (writers are incredibly strange lol) It's definitely something that could have stayed in JUST the comics & stayed buried

The series is called Xmen '97. It pretty much implies this show was back in the 1990's. I'm sure people who are jumping in the series would watch prior seasons.
You guys were right about the clone theory from Episode 1, just for a different character. Mr. Sinister! I had no nostalgic attachment to the original series because I never watched it as a kid, but I did go through the entire thing now before this came out and enjoyed it. But I absolutely LOVED these first two episodes, way more than I ever imagined I would! So excited for the rest of it and way more optimistic about the X-Men in the live-action sacred timeline of the MCU.
I can remember being eight when this and Batman: TAS first came on the air. At the time, there was absolutely nothing on television aimed at kids that actually respected their own audience. If you were to go back and watch the OG X-Men now, the dialogue would definitely come off as dated, but back then it was leagues ahead of just about everything else, save for BAtman:TAS. Whereas other cartoons were either loud, obnoxious, or just incredibly campy with stilted, phoned-in voice acting, X-Men had a much more mature tone to it, with writing that dived deeply into its characters and rather complex themes. I would credit the success of these two shows for cartoons today that don't talk down to their audience and actually have writing done by people who care about their work.
Though not all of the events played out exactly the same in the comics Dustin, the major elements did (storm, trial of magneto, rogue & magneto, and another jean). Better read up! 😄
So in the comics, cyclops didnt have a child to Jean, cables parents are cyclops and Madelyne Pryor who is a clone of Jean and has her powers, the only way to tell the difference is that madelyne hand got the pheonix force
The best episode by far; the moment magneto sees storm hurt de powered thats when the rage returns, the rage of a man who vowed to use his gift to protect his people so they wouldnt feel helpless again. But what hurts most is that she lost her gift saving him and he blames himself for it hence why he sheds tewrs a crude reminder that tohonor his friends dream to change will not come without price nor ordeals. Also the rogue x magneto as mention by other in chat happened in the age of apocalypse timeline. Now onto jean and the baby: 1. Logan went bat out of hell going "MOVE IT BABY ON THE WAY" 2. logan finally got a convertible jeep 3. The madelyne situation is happening and my brain can figured out what is going on cause when did the switch happened when; i dont remember and instance in the original were it could lead to the switch it doesnt add up. Hopefully ep 3 will provide some answers to this cause boy sinister got some explaining to do.
It s funny in recent comics this sort of thing from Magneto integrating mutants into the UN is what Cyclops has done. But for this show it seems fitting for Magneto to do this. Sad about Storm but it makes sense she’s one of the most powerful mutants of the X-men and yes mutants being de-powered is a thing. As for the ending it was an arc in the comics as well Scott’s life is about to be messed up.
In any other show/movie and a doppelganger shows up I would say time travel, BUT with X-Men I'm willing to bet Sinister did something to make another Jean.
Regarding whether it is possible for the child of two mutants to be born human: Graydon Creed, unpowered human and one of the biggest enemies of mutant kind, is the child of Sabretooth (Victor Creed) and Mystique (Raven Darkholme). I believe, at one point in the original X-Men cartoon that 'X-men 97' is a continuation of, Mystique captures Graydon and drops him off with his father as punishment for his anti-mutant activities. So it IS possible for the child f two mutants to be a baseline human, it just doesn't happen often.
Having read, or being aware of the 2 comic book storylines they are adapting, I WANT to say something, but I won't so you can discover this yourselves, but they are important ones for Scott/Jean and Storm
This episode reminded me why I love Magneto as a character so much! His dialogue and voice acting are absolutely perfect in X-Men 97!
Since Magneto can control electrons, he can give the sensation of touching Rogue, but they aren't actually touching on an atomic level so she doesn't drain him.
I read all X-Men comics until 1997 and the only time I remember Magneto and Rogue doing that was in Age of Apocalypse alternate storyline :)

Episode 1 was great and episode 2 did not disappoint. The detail of Storm being scared of lighting after losing her abilities hit hard.
Most definitely 💯
Considering it taker her having to be in control of her emotions to be one with the world, her being scared is an amazing detail
Made me ugly cry 😅
Magneto and Rogue are a comic relationship. They have a kid in Age of Apocalypse event. Read Lifedeath one of the best Storm comics ever made.

Magneto getting his own space in the opening, gave me joy.
Slipping events mentioned during the episode (Asteroid M) into the opening was a nice touch, too.

Magneto and Rogue had a relationship in the AoA universe aand before that in The Savage Land when they were depowered.
In age of the Apocalypse comic book Rogue and Magneto have a baby and call him Charles Gambit was also in the middle of it as well.
Because I was worried how much he love me. Magnetos history is every thing tragic.
Now onto jean and the baby:
1. Logan went bat out of hell going "MOVE IT BABY ON THE WAY"
2. logan finally got a convertible jeep
3. The madelyne situation is happening and my brain can figured out what is going on cause when did the switch happened when; i dont remember and instance in the original were it could lead to the switch it doesnt add up. Hopefully ep 3 will provide some answers to this cause boy sinister got some explaining to do.
Madelyn Pryor is Jeans Clone. She's the one that gave birth to Cable
Two mutants can produce a normal human. Graydon Creed is the son of Sabertooth and Mystique.
Memory is kinda fragmented but I think that's the Jean clone Mr. Sinister created...
In any other show/movie and a doppelganger shows up I would say time travel, BUT with X-Men I'm willing to bet Sinister did something to make another Jean.
I know there's a lot of theories about this "other Jean", but I was watching it with my sister and she thinks it might be Mistique.... 🤔
17:00 🙏🏽
Regarding whether it is possible for the child of two mutants to be born human: Graydon Creed, unpowered human and one of the biggest enemies of mutant kind, is the child of Sabretooth (Victor Creed) and Mystique (Raven Darkholme). I believe, at one point in the original X-Men cartoon that 'X-men 97' is a continuation of, Mystique captures Graydon and drops him off with his father as punishment for his anti-mutant activities. So it IS possible for the child f two mutants to be a baseline human, it just doesn't happen often.
This show is just everything!
DUDE!!! The original series was intense, but THIS!!!! OMG!!!! MAAAAAAAN!!! Looks like Disney got this RIGHT SO FAR!!!!
Magneto da 🐐
Magneto and Storm were BAMFS this episode! Also Magneto's powers nullifying Rogues is a thing from the comics. Kind of a stretch for me personally.
Magneto "Hank help Storm"
Having read, or being aware of the 2 comic book storylines they are adapting, I WANT to say something, but I won't so you can discover this yourselves, but they are important ones for Scott/Jean and Storm
Perhaps Scott had a relationship with Mystique all along :D
It actually *IS* possible for a child of two mutants to be born normal. Graydon Creed the *FOUNDER* of the Friends of Humanity is proof of that!
