  • I had the chance to get out on the water with my buddy Michael recently so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to chat a bit about fly fishing with friends. Fun day on the water and we managed to find a few fish also!

    Awesome content as always! Fishing with friends is all about FUN! Hanging, chatting, making sure each gets into some fish as you said. Love it👍🏻
    Was out there yesterday and had my best winter day yet this season on “our” home stream. Probably 25-30 in the net between 10-3. Fished 2 days in a row last week with very similar weather conditions, same flow and water temp and only caught about 15 those two days combined. As you know, that river is dynamic 365 days a year just about, but always puts my mind in the blender as to why some days are so much better than others when almost all the possible variables are the same.
    Tight lines and keep the great content coming!

      I honestly think that if I was able to put 30-40 fish in the net every outing I would kinda be done with the sport. The fact that some days are hard and you don't catch as many fish is the part that keeps it fun for me. Always trying to figure out each day

    Simple but often overlooked- first aid kit either in pack or vehicle, especially in the backcountry. My buddy had a pretty gnarly slip/fall and sliced his hand open on a piece of rebar. We were about 3 miles in and the kit saved the fishing day! Coleman makes a altoids tin size kit that’s lightweight and fits anywhere.

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  2 года назад +2

      Yeah, that was overlooked by myself because I'm generally close to my vehicle. Good call out

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  2 года назад

      both great reels, hard to go wrong with either of them. The Galvan is a bit heavier but it balances the longer T&T rod really well.

    I love fishing with new people the biggest hint I have is, be easy, look for areas of commonality. Never be afraid to fish with new people if it doesn’t work oh well, but I have made many great friends that I have invited to go fishing and found out that we like hanging out together.

    I would suggest when fishing out of a boat with a friend… that you offer/insist that your partner fishes fishes first from the front end of the boat for at least the first hour. It’s a long day and you’ll still catch your share of fish.

    Great video. Disagree about "nothing worse than only one of you having fun fishing", it's worse when neither of you has fun ;-) ; but that rarely happens. In places like that just being out there is fun to me!

    Some beautiful fish! Is that the 10'9 T&T Contact II you were using? How do you like the Galvan GEN reel? I'm using the Sage ESN reel on my Contact II, and my wife is using the Galvan GEN on hers. I like that her setup is all US made. The made in Korea sticker on the ESN is the only thing I don't like about it.

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, it's the 10' 9" 3wt. I really like the Contact and Galvan setup, nothing to complain about but I'm sure you know that :)

      @@FlyingTies I like the weights with the Sage, but they have that 1/2oz weight available for the Galvan also. Have you cast a floating line with your Contact? We are thinking about getting set up so we at least have the option. Debating whether to get spare spools for the ESN and GEN and put WF3's on them, or possibly using one of our 5 wt Lamson's we already have spare spools for. I think the Lamson reels would still balance okay. I've read that some folks prefer to go up a line weight on their ESN rods, but folks seem to say to stay with a true to weight line on the contacts. Any opinion?

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  2 года назад +1

      @@1NotAPony1 I've used a 2wt line on both my euro rods and it cast them just fine up to 40'. That being said if you want to cast in the wind I would use a 3wt line or a shorter rod...

    how often would you say that you change flies? That is one thing I hate to do... but it's probably why I dont have a ton of success or consistent success

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  2 года назад +1

      It really depends on the day and the conditions. I tend to change flies if I'm confident that there are fish holding in the water I'm fishing and I'm not getting any feedback from them. Some people don't really change at all and just find fish that will eat the flies they are fishing. There isn't really a perfect answer :)
