Love generally tying up smaller nymphs w/ a little marabou tail. Always feel wasteful peeling off the marabou from other hackle fibers - I'm going to try this pattern and use some other types of marabou. Thanks for the video!
A minor point on word choice… Trout don’t ‘eat’ a fly. They intend to, but their plan is foiled by the angler. It’s more accurate to say the fish ‘takes’ the fly. I’ll let myself out. Oh, and the Ugly Walt is a great fly. Easy to tie, and effective.
Cool pattern, gonna try this out. I notice you keep your rod close to parallel to the water and after being out the last few times I realize I keep my rod tip kind of high and it makes setting the hook more difficult/hard to keep tension once I hook up with a fish. I don't know if I've always had this bad habit but I'm wondering if there are tips you have to correct this or is it just as simple as concentrating on keeping my rod tip lower to the water. I don't think my rod and reel are very well balanced and I'm wondering if this would help to have a different sized reel, mine is too light for the rod. Also, is it harder for you to detect strikes when dry dropper fishing on a euro rig? I haven't done it much but notice it seems harder for me to detect strikes on the nymph possibly because of the dry is on a dropper tag instead of directly in line with the rig - am I crazy? Is there a specific tactic to have better contact with the nymph I'm just missing? Thanks for all the great content, definitely one of the best fly fishing channels on RUclips. I try to keep my arms lower vs up high, that helps keep the rod tip lower. Also I think there is a misconception that if you are euro nymphing you need to “high stick” which isn’t always the case. I tend to try to keep the rod tip lower because there is a lot of wind on my river. As for dry dropper there are a couple things you could try. First, keep your nymphs up river from your dropper, this will help the strikes on the nymph be a little more obvious. The second is to try and make sure that the dry & the dropper are similar in weight to size distribution. Small nymph, small dry etc… Hope this helps!

I was using a euro leader but was fishing it a few different ways
Have you tried it for brown trout or just rainbows?
Works great for all trout, although I haven’t tried to catch bull trout with it yet… but I can’t imagine it not working
