Great easy tie! Can't wait to give it a go. Thanks for the instructional! Slowly learning, so I'm a little partial to the instructional ones. Can't wait for some of this cold weather to snap a little, I'm not the heartiest in the cold. But I really want to get out and try this one!
Outstanding! I'm going to tie a few of these and will report back after I've fished them. Great looking pattern, and what a good way to use CDL marabou. Yet another great video and tie!
like your variations of standard patterns. still winter Idaho fishing days limited. have time to tie. do you give out the name of your local river. looks to big to be over fished. thanks
Love generally tying up smaller nymphs w/ a little marabou tail. Always feel wasteful peeling off the marabou from other hackle fibers - I'm going to try this pattern and use some other types of marabou. Thanks for the video!
A minor point on word choice… Trout don’t ‘eat’ a fly. They intend to, but their plan is foiled by the angler. It’s more accurate to say the fish ‘takes’ the fly. I’ll let myself out. Oh, and the Ugly Walt is a great fly. Easy to tie, and effective.
Cool pattern, gonna try this out. I notice you keep your rod close to parallel to the water and after being out the last few times I realize I keep my rod tip kind of high and it makes setting the hook more difficult/hard to keep tension once I hook up with a fish. I don't know if I've always had this bad habit but I'm wondering if there are tips you have to correct this or is it just as simple as concentrating on keeping my rod tip lower to the water. I don't think my rod and reel are very well balanced and I'm wondering if this would help to have a different sized reel, mine is too light for the rod. Also, is it harder for you to detect strikes when dry dropper fishing on a euro rig? I haven't done it much but notice it seems harder for me to detect strikes on the nymph possibly because of the dry is on a dropper tag instead of directly in line with the rig - am I crazy? Is there a specific tactic to have better contact with the nymph I'm just missing? Thanks for all the great content, definitely one of the best fly fishing channels on RUclips. Keep up the great work.
I try to keep my arms lower vs up high, that helps keep the rod tip lower. Also I think there is a misconception that if you are euro nymphing you need to “high stick” which isn’t always the case. I tend to try to keep the rod tip lower because there is a lot of wind on my river. As for dry dropper there are a couple things you could try. First, keep your nymphs up river from your dropper, this will help the strikes on the nymph be a little more obvious. The second is to try and make sure that the dry & the dropper are similar in weight to size distribution. Small nymph, small dry etc… Hope this helps!
Thank you for this and Happy New Year It looks like you are not using Euro Nymphing techniques Am I correct This is not criticism, but a quest to learn from you
Fastly becoming my favorite channel. Love the intros with the fishing, and I've added several of your ties to my box!
Thanks man!
4:04 - Love the river and the terrain. The brief glimpse of basalt pillars.
Yeah it’s a cool place for sure
This has been an incredibly productive pattern for me this season. Thanks so much for sharing!! 👍
I enjoy seeing the way you show the materials at the end. That's a nice touch.
Hey thanks! appreciate it
Dude! Love how you show the materials at the end!!! Thanks
🤙🏽

Nice tie. Going to give that one a try here when I can get out on the water again. Thanks for sharing.
Let me know how it works for you
Very nice. Fishing and tying...perfect. Watch out for freezing guides!!!
I dunked my reel on accident and it was frozen in minutes lol
that steam looks like a blast!

Thanks for that interesting tie. I will make a few up for next week on the Waioeka River down-under in NZ.
Please let me know how they work for you out there :)
One of the most effective patterns you can use year round.
I agree ;)

haha yeah seems like winter will never end.
hey man, what bobbin are you using here?
Just found your videos a couple days ago. Great content. .
You located in the PNW?
Hey thanks! Yup
I have a bunch of ring neck pheasant philoplumes that would work great for that gray tail.
Let me know how those work out!
Great fly! Any tips on choosing/buying a coq de leon pelt? Hen? Rooster cape?
Thanks! I would recommend the Whiting Coq De Leon rooster saddle
@@FlyingTies Your videos are the best. They have really helped me get into more fish.
@@stephencifka4629 that’s awesome! Happy they help

Where are you getting your coq de leon pelts? I haven’t seen those in any of my local fly shops in central Oregon. Thanks for the video.
Picked it up from the Slide Inn in Montana, not sure if they have any in stock though
@@FlyingTies Appreciate the reply. Love your vids. Maybe I’ll run into ya on the river sometime.
I’m sure you will :)

I was using a euro leader but was fishing it a few different ways
Have you tried it for brown trout or just rainbows?
Works great for all trout, although I haven’t tried to catch bull trout with it yet… but I can’t imagine it not working
@@FlyingTies and is that with all your flies cause I’ve tied a few of your oil slick baetis nymphs but haven’t tried them yet
@@derrickdelliskave3096 yeah, I’ve caught browns, rainbows, brook trout, whitefish, etc on almost all of them
