Makes me wanna buy an OT and spend like a whole week 4-5 hours a day just to get the basics and start making sick beats, I love my sp404mk2 but I wanna dive in something deep lol
@@beatrushmusic I wouldn't sell it, effects are too good and it's just too easy to use, perfect machine to get a lot of fun. I even plan to make a beat tape before the end of the year with it !
@@jazzmoka8892 Yeah I don't think I'll sell. I'm trying to cover all bases by midi controlling the MK2 with a Digitakt. So far I really like it, but chopping on the MK2 still just feels a bit off to me.
There is something about this beat Jon... I've been listening to your music for years, but this.... This right here... This is the one. I wish you find the inspiration to write something to compliment it. For real.
The cool thing is this track, Memories of Green, wasn't even composed for Blade Runner. It appeared 2 years before the film on an album called "See You Later". Director Ridley Scott liked the track so much he wanted to include it in the film, and so it was, unchanged from its album form.
I’ve sampled Blade Runner blues eight ways from Sunday. So many beautiful passages. Love that piece. One of my fav soundtracks for sure.👍 RIP Vangelis🔥
I am a huge IDM and electronic fan, Aphex, Justice, CASSIUS, and some other electronic junk, never ever have I gotten into hip-hop. I love and understand its craft, but I just never vibed with it. But this track is literally mind melting. It made me binge watch all of your other videos, and now you have become my favorite producer channel on YT. I love how erratic this one is, with the chopped up sound effects like the beeping and the airy flute sound, it just creates one of the best things I've heard hip-hop wise, in maybe my whole life. Makes me want to check out more hip-hop. Considering Patreon.
That’s great to hear. There’s a lot of hip hop that borders on electronic music and vice versa. You can hear the fingerprints of hip hop’s influence on all sorts of music so it’s just natural that if you’re a fan of one that you can be a fan of the other. I’m glad to have jumpstarted that sort of interest for you.
Man, I find simplistic things click together so nicely on the Octa that I never put enough time into crafting beats properly. This is SO inspiring - Thank you, Jon!
jon you're my hero. no one hits that sombre, creative note quite like you, and this beat is especially perfect. you've been my top listened on spotify for 10 years straight and now i get to watch the process, blessed. you should release some of these. forever love
Im so grateful that you are back in our lives, your music healed so many, now we get to enjoy the evolution of JW....one of the greatest to ever do it 🙏🏾
being able to add the effects to get rid of the choppiness is so clutch. I learned on the MPC 2000XL 20 years ago and the chopiness was always the challenge if the sample didn't fit just right in the sequence. Sometimes I would just throw a whole beat out because it felt unfixable. So many options nowadays
That's always been the most difficult part for me because I always dislike cutting chops short when it sounds unnatural but also don't want to have audio gaps. This workaround is the best I've seen other than the warping method in Ableton
I always loved Blade Runner and it's soundtrack by Vangelis, and always thought that "Memories Of Green" track that you're sampling here is highly underrated. Great job!
I have an mpc, but watching mpc videos get boring. These videos really inspire me to turn on my mpc and continue learning. It’s difficult to have motivation and make beats when you’re three weeks in but barely know your hardware. Sampling good music really makes the process more fun. I’m definitely going to get big into videogame and movie soundtracks.
When the Cybepunk anime came out last year I was bingeing a bunch of cyberpunk content in general so I decided to sample this soundtrack. What you just did though was so beautiful bro thank you for doing what you do 🙏🏾
I probably would have just given up when the drums didn’t fit well into the beat, but with some layers added and mild tinkering it turned into one of the coolest beats I’ve heard in a while. That’s inspiring man. Really makes me think some of my unfinished beats could turn out sick with some practice. Thanks
i was almost selling my digitakt, then came the last update and then i discovered your videos (was already a fan since bowser), now i don't want to sell it anymore
This is an awesome beat, really hoping you write something for it and we get a full song. Usually I just skim through beat creation vids but I was transfixed from the start with this one and watched the whole way through.
Pleasantly surprised to see that you have a RUclips channel, and I immediately subscribed fam. Love what you do, and how you do it (Pause.) And this was an inspiring session. From Philly With Love fam!🙏🏾✊🏾💚
First video I've seen of yours bro. Love the format you have here. This is beast mode on another level. If you hadn't pulled it together so well it would've been different.
Man I don't even make hip hop and our workflows are galaxies apart, but your videos are so inspiring. I've always been a bit intimidated by sampling and it's so helpful to see your process. Thanks for making the content that you do! (And that progression in this sample is BAD, that turn literally took my breath away.) Edit: Gotta agree with @flesk this beat is god tier

I don’t make hip hop beats. I don’t own an octatrack. I love these videos.
Why would you have to make beats or own an octotrack to wnjoy this?
If you're not into making beats chances are this video is boring to you
i totally get you. i make a different style on different gear.. but i find this content so damn inspiring
@@phatplatesI don’t make beats and this is entertaining
Man, after watching a few of these Im learning to appreciate the process and to slow the heck down. I love this
The thought process you go through in your videos and music making is inspiring. learning new techniques by watching you! Thank you
Thanks for saying that. I'm hoping that these videos are not showing you what to think as much as how to think. Thanks for watching

so happy you made a channel for this type of content, you've been one of my all-time favorites since the Low End Theory days. love you man 💙✨
Thanks for checking it out
Unmatched in the way you string it all together. Sheesh
Flipped one of my favorite movies ... very good job man.
Vangelis is an amazing composer. "Memories of Green" is one of the lesser known tracks off this soundtrack but beautiful anyway.
Definitely worth delving into Vangelis' back catalogue for more samples, guy was a certified genius
You gotta check out Phillip Glass music too!
Please! Make the full track out of it - its awesome!
this has such an insane vibe man cant wrap my head around how you do all this

Dude what the fuck I was literally obsessed with this EXACT sample when I watched the movie
I have seen this so many times, the way the story about making a great beat unfolds into this master piece its amazing. So good!
you are so good man.
Blew the lid off again jon!
Coldest beat I've heard in a whole while, got goosebumps. Amazing sample. Are you planning on uploading or dropping some bars over this one?
Your beats have so much feel to them like there’s nothing to argue with everything is exactly where/how it should be. I like this one a lot
