- It was mid June 2020, a few weeks after the easing of the UK's first national covid-19 lockdown. Myself and Matthew from the London City Angler came together to produce a short video documenting an after-work trip to a London chalk stream.

First video I ever watched showing a glimpse into the london fly fishing scene and it popped up again today 😂🔥
Great video. Nice to see there's life in some of those urban streams.
Great video mate💪🎣 London holds some good fishing spots hidden from the city life 🎣👌
Very cool fishing! You stalk like a heron, this really illustrates the expression "urban jungle". Unique style, presentation and production!
A really good watch. Looking forward to more videos from you.
That fibreglass rod has a nice action. Tasty little bit of fishing too.
Really enjoyed that. Great style and liked the analysis too. Looking forward to future instalments!
I like the style and the edit of the video Tim. Keep it comming!
Thanks, I enjoyed watching your recent streamer fishing vid on the (Avon?)
@@flyfishinglondoner wait for the next one...don’t miss it! ;)
Yeah me too and I don't even fish, great video!
I moved away from London 30+ years ago but I used to fly fish the Roding, Coppermill Stream and the Old River Lea.
Very nice, I'm just getting into fly fishing myself, looking forward to more from this channel 👍I'll give this a share on the London Angling Community 🎣
Thanks for the kind words. I've enjoyed some of your content also.
Really nice, Tim! I really enjoyed that! That juxtaposition and contrast of you, an angler, in those very urban areas is properly cool. I'll look forward to more... 👍🏼
Thanks Geoff... hopefully we'll do a session together soon.
Great video! Thank you guys!
I really enjoy this urban fishing videos
Thank you for checking ou the vid. I have one coming later this week
@@flyfishinglondoner great, I Will waiting for it.
Brilliant fellas keep em coming
Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed.
Nice fishing, good filming and cool music well done. 👏👏👏
There's a new vid coming up Tuesday at 5pm.... much better production.
Well done Tim, great video. You actually showed me the Wandle on my first ever trip there just under a year ago. Managed a few sessions after that, but still looking for my first Wandle trout - they are spooky! Caught dace, chub and roach though.
Man is a very cool video! It was interesting to see the places where you fish :) I'm waiting for new videos, keep shooting! This year, I also want to continue shooting videos and uploading them to RUclips. I have been fishing with fly fishing since last year, before that I only fished with a spinning rod and shot a little video. Now I will shoot a video about fly fishing :) Thanks for the video!
I didn't know that you made videos, I'll subscribe after I finish typing this. This river is the only one in London that has a population of wild brown trout and used to be very polluted.
That's cool! I have never caught a trout. This year I want to go to one of the rivers and catch this fish, but I have to go 150 km for it. But I hope that everything will learn and I will go :) I will definitely take my cameras with me :)
What a great video. Well done chaps.
Lovely job.Keep the way i am looking forward.thanks.
Nice one. Love the fact that you can now catch fish again in the city.. We used to make our own flies and use a technique called ‘dapping’ We would stand on bridges and let the breeze take the silk And adjust the trajectory just by raising or lowering the rod tip. this would allow the flies to touch the water. In a very natural way. It’s an unusual and exciting way to catch any fish that will take a fly
Very well done ,keep them coming.
Top man Tim great vid.😊
True spirit of fly fishing, good for you!
Awesome content Sir... I work down London and this makes me want to pack my #3 and have a go...superb edit too. Kudos to you both
Great share of your game Tim!
When you're ready to hit the river let me know!
Nice fish! Quality video no way was your camera man getting his feet wet that day! 😁👊🏽
He did jump in occasionally! lol
You couldn't any more different contrast to my fishing in the Welsh Upland Llyns, but our quarry is the same, wild Brown trout, enjoyed your video.
Great video !
Great work!
Nice one Tim....
Nice video, fished the river several times but hadn’t given that straight canal like stretch a second glance after my first visit and got a nose full of the sewage smell!
It holds a few shoals on roach and chub.. a few nice ones too.
Nice to see someone still making use of a fibre glass fly rod. There's nothing wrong with them in shorter lengths like 7' or 7'6". Light but robust. And some people would pay £50 or more for a day's fly fishing only to have less sport than you managed on that stretch there.
Fibreglass has made somewhat of a comeback recently. That particular rod is still in use and currently seeing good action on our chalk streams.
I make more fibreglass rods for people than anything else. Super popular here. Fast, light and forgiving.
Nice one Tim! long time no see!
Fucking hell Brian where are you these days? Did you ever see that post about your whereabouts on carpforum a few years back?
ah, did they miss me?😁
been fishing the upper medway stretches for a few years now, but joined a new club now so will be trying the River Rother & a few Sussex drains!!
How did you find the vid out of interest?
@@flyfishinglondoner I follow the London Anglers Facebook page, it was on there.
do you intend to do more?
I still do a bit of fly-fishing, mostly at Bewl or Tenterden.
I always meant to give it a go at Balls Green on the Medway, I had grayling on baits up there & always wanted to try nymphing for them, but alas, ran out of time!
Guess glass rods excels, disco next😂❤
Not a bad day of fun
A afternoon actually! Was shot during one of the periods of relaxation during covid.
Looks like the wandle river ?
Yes it is the Wandle.
Nicley done Sir !
Cool!
Which treated effluent channel is that ? Beddington?
@@princef9866 Yes it is price, you should be able to locate it on a map, straight and uniform! It holds mostly roach and chub.
Should try the river ravensbourne in Lewisham by the hospital very good Chub up to 5/6lb
Great video! Can someone please suggest where I might have the best luck, trying to catch a couple trout in the river Wandle? I have been fishing for the last 16 years, but have not been able to catch a wild trout, and hoping to achieve this life long dream. Any angling tips or tricks would be much appreciated.
I watched a video a couple of days ago of a guy fishing on the Wandle in Colliers Wood where he caought a trout, down the side of Merton bus garage on Wandle Bank (that's the name of the road). The video is titled, 'Barbel fishing on a tiny London river'.
@@pauldear6660I might make use of that and give it a try too!
Nice !
Rock on urban at it's best....
The overcrowded South. Lived in and loved London 80s. Would not be there if ye paid me now.
Love the set up was megga bucks ??
The was used (£140) rod was sold to me very cheaply (£120).
Great work Tim ! And for your first editing ? Have not stopped smiling at your low vis stalking shorts and what fly did you use to hook the enormous dogs ? Lol ! Overall brilliant and I’m really looking forward to more when you get the chance
Thanks for the kind words. I no longer wet wade in urban rivers so not more swimmingly trunks!
bit further downstream its full of carp put in by the local anglers.
I know the river very well, had a few carp on the fly there too. They're very tricky to tempt.
Cool
Cool video what line are you using?
Rio Gold 4wt that I got used.
Wandle?
Unusual cast. The rod is not normally allowed to go behind the shoulder, and then knocked forwards about 45° to flick the weighted fly line out. Whilst it can be cast enormous distance it is more about accuracy, and should be effortless. Draw the line up but stop the rod and let the line pass behind, when you feel the weight of the line knock forwards but stop to let the rod spring the line out, lower the tip to lay the line onto the water and the fly where you want it.
From the G9 Facebook group to now the comments section of my videos! The set up included a 3mm tungsten fly for the section you see the casting on. Combine that with fibreglass and a downstream wind and it was a challenge. But I'm experienced enough to make it work - hence why I still caught plenty of fish!

How much crak did you sell to get your rod 😂
How much? Sold enough to your mum to buy it outright. Been selling to her long enough that it affected your schooling to the point that you can't spell crack properly.
Great video👍🏻
