It's actually not that broad IGN put out an article about the patent earlier and the infographic for the mechanic specifically shows an orb with a button as the creature capture device so basically if Palworld was even slightly original they probably could have dodged this suit.

I do not think that Sony is handling the Anniversary well at all. They should develop an easily accessible system for fans of Playstation to purchase in the look and feel of the original Playstation One. I would go so far as to say they should have bundled a classic compilation of games as part of the system. Legend Arceus came out in 2022. A patent pertaining gameplay mechanics from that game in 2021 seems reasonable and logical. Why does it have to do with Palworld? I think something that people are overlooking with respect to the lawsuit is that The Pokemon Company isn't the only litigant bringing the suit, it's also Nintendo proper. So the patent infringements might not be limited to just Pokemon game mechanics. There are a lot of Breath of the Wild-isms in Palworld that could also potentially be at issue here.
Basically Nintendo decided since it had been decided that game mechanics can't be copywritten (at least in the US) then they would become Patent trolls instead. Its almost like they were jealous about all the negative press Sony and Nintendo have been getting lately.

I don't think PalWorld would've ever outsold Pokemon even without this lawsuit. It probably could've reached Yokai watch or digimon levels, but not Pokemon.
Spawnwave is just flat out wrong on the law. Nintendo can 100% have obtained a patent in 2021 and enforce it on PalWorld. First off, the development for PowerWorld was announced in 2021. Nothing in that implies or hints at game mechanics. They did not have any patents. Meanwhile, Nintendo's patent was for a game that came out in 2021. On a side note, it makes perfect sense that Nintendo only recently filed suit. This is because the game only recently was actually released. Before now, it was still in beta and could have been changed to work differently.

What I dont understand is why are they going after palworld when there are multiple monster taming games on the switch like coromon and nexomon who both are getting new games soon. They both have same mechanics like encounter a creature and catching them in devices.

Legend Arceus came out in 2022. A patent pertaining gameplay mechanics from that game in 2021 seems reasonable and logical. Why does it have to do with Palworld? Similarly, a treasure trove of patents was patented just before the launch of Tears of the Kingdom. Gamers used them to speculate the game’s gameplay.
If they sue cause of BOTW gameplay then they would have to sue genshin impact for similar gameplay.

I think something that people are overlooking with respect to the lawsuit is that The Pokemon Company isn't the only litigant bringing the suit, it's also Nintendo proper. So the patent infringements might not be limited to just Pokemon game mechanics. There are a lot of Breath of the Wild-isms in Palworld that could also potentially be at issue here.
Basically Nintendo decided since it had been decided that game mechanics can't be copywritten (at least in the US) then they would become Patent trolls instead. Its almost like they were jealous about all the negative press Sony and Nintendo have been getting lately.
Other studios sell just under expectations and get shut down, and every one looses their job. Firewalk completely flops worse than almost anything ever seen, and one guy simply steps down. What a messed up world we live in.

not gonna lie, for a spit second in the video announcement yesterday, i thought we were about to get some backwards compatibility update or something to actually be able to celebrate 30 years of playstation. at this point there's more versions of the ps5 than their are games made specifically for the ps5.
There are good reasons why ps3 back-compat isn't a thing yet on newer consoles.

I don't think PalWorld would've ever outsold Pokemon even without this lawsuit. It probably could've reached Yokai watch or digimon levels, but not Pokemon.
Console manufacturers need to go back to coloring the buttons.. Especially since game developers still use the colored versions in game.
First party Xbox controllers still have colored letters on the face buttons usually.

Spawnwave is just flat out wrong on the law. Nintendo can 100% have obtained a patent in 2021 and enforce it on PalWorld. First off, the development for PowerWorld was announced in 2021. Nothing in that implies or hints at game mechanics. They did not have any patents. Meanwhile, Nintendo's patent was for a game that came out in 2021.
On a side note, it makes perfect sense that Nintendo only recently filed suit. This is because the game only recently was actually released. Before now, it was still in beta and could have been changed to work differently.

for the PS5 anniversary edition, imo they should have designed it based off of the PS2 colour scheme as they already did the PS1 colour scheme for the 20th anniversary PS4 one. take the black middle and turn it blue, and turn the white into black and it would look sick
