Redesigned knife bevel filing jig - How to make it !!!

- In this video I have tried to redesign the well known knife bevel filing jig. I had this idea for a long time so I gave it a try. The original idea of attaching the file on the steel rod, and sliding it true the eye bolt came from I believe the guy with RUclips channel named Gough Custom. In his design he is moving the bolt to a different spots to get a desired angle and position for filing bevel (plunge line). I thought it would work better if I will leave the bolt on the same spot, to keep the eye high set up for a desired angle, and move the actual blade. To keep the blade at the same distance from the bolt at all time, I have added the pivot table that pivots around the bolt. I will film the testing of the jig on my next knife making video. Will see, how it works :-) As a project progressed, I was adjusting the dimensions of this prototype to make it work. The detailed drawings with the dimensions will be available to purchase on my web site soon for symbolic small price. For those who don't want to wait, send me an email on 007msedlak@gmail.com and I will send it to you. If you want to support my channel, simply purchase the drawings, I will much appreciate it :-). Thank you for watching, and big thanks to my 48 subscribers. :-) See you soon :-)

Wow this one is awesome. Would you take an order for one like that?
Hi Jakelol. Yes I would. Write me an email (its below the video in description box), we can share more info there. Thank you for your comment and interest in my work :-).
Wow. Straight up professional. I think I learned more watching this one video with no dialog than I have in 3 years of watching Walter sorrells and all the rest of them. I don't know why this video isn't viral. You must have done something to piss off the RUclips gods. Either way I'm glad I found it 👍
:-) I hope Its not that bad and gods will still give this video a chance :-) Thank you for the comment, it motivates a lot. Take care my friend.
You are a true craftsman. I have to wonder with woodworking like that how beautiful your knives will be.
Thank you very much for a kind words. I will try my best. :-)
Man, until now I didn’t saw a jig so well made!
You are an artist
Eric, thank you for your comment. That's very kind of you. I've tried to improve the old original idea, and make this new design best in every detail. Comments like yours motivates me a lot, thanks. Iam currently working on a new design of another well known knife makers tool, hopefully it will work and will help to make better knives easier. Take care :-)
JKeetonKnives Wow man... Now that is truly impressive... Excellent craftsmanship. I used the standard file gig for a long time and I wish I had this upgrade! Thanks for sharing... subbed for sure.
You've got a great eye for detail, that's a really nicely built jig. I hope you'll post a video of this in use - I'm curious about the way the base pivots (I think?).
WIth my copy of the Gough jig I found the play between the eye-bolt and the rod to be problematic. For my second knife I'm changing it to a ball-joint rod end instead (e.g., McMaster-Carr part number 60645K35. Note that different sizes and styles have different maximum angles).
I chose one with female threads so I can adjust the angle more by using different length threaded. While I used 3/8 cold-rolled mild steel from the hardware store - had to lightly sand and polish it to make it slide nicely - I'd go with a precision ground hardened rod of a smaller diameter - they're about the same price, plus shipping, at least in the US.
Thanks for posting your work, it's inspiring.
Hi Nope. Thank you for a nice comment. Yes I will post the video of testing this jig and one more redesigned tool for a knife makers, that I was working on. It should have been up live already, but I couldn't work on my YT projects for a months. Yes, the base of my jig design pivots around the eye-bolt, this way the distance between the blade and the bolt will stay the same while the angle could be adjusted, as well as the position of the blade for filing the bevel (especially on longer blades). I think the ball-joint bolt and hardened rod is a good idea, it should ease the work. Good luck with your second knife, take care.
Nicely done! I am anxiously awaiting your next video showing the use and results of such! I would very seriously consider building myself this jig it performes as it looks it will! Nice job on the video as well!
Hi Michael. Thank you for your nice comment. Yes, I will make the video about how my redesigned file jig works. Before that, soon I will upload a three episodes of designing and building of my newly redesigned or innovated multi tool for a knife makers. Right then I will use both of these tools in my new knife build video to see how they perform :-) as you wish. The detailed prints, plans, for all of my designs and ideas will be available for download on my web site after I will finish this project that Iam working on currently. Thank you for commenting on my video, all the best :)
It looks way different than the original. How do you use it? Why all the bells and whistles? There needs to be a follow up video with an explanation.
Hi. It is different. That's the point of improving, making things better. The pivoting table makes work much more comfortable and precise. It allows maker to move the knife to a desired position to file the bevel on any part of the knife, and still keeping the preset angle of the file the entire time. You are right about the "how to use it video". It should have been filmed long ago, I just couldn't film anything for different reasons. I will do it, due to more requests. Everything on the jig is functional, I don't understand that part of your comment. Anyways, thank you for it and thanks for your interest in my work. All the best :-)
That is one nice jig ! Any way of getting a set of plans for this ? Many Thanxxxx !
Thank you for your comment and for your interest in my work :-) Yes, plans for this jig will be available on my web site as well as plans for my upcoming projects. Iam new in this digital world at this level, so creating the site and digitizing the drawings is taking me a some time. If you are not in a hurry, I will notify you when the plans will be up on the site. Thake care :-)
You are not the lone ranger in this digital world my friend. I am a hobbyist knife maker trying to enjoy my golden years . Your jig again is stunning and I know it will aid in keeping lines and bevels a lot straighter. Again Thanxxx.@@mariansedlak9265
You're welcome. Enjoy your golden years with the knife making sir, its a good hobby. :-) I will let you know when the plans are prepared. All the best. @lions roar
Would you sell the plans or only sell the complete unit?
Hi. Yes, I can sell you the plans. Would you write me on my email 007msedlak@gmail.com Thank you for your interest at my work.
looks cool but seeing how you use it remains a bit of a mystery. 😢
All right. That's it. I am filming it how to use it. :-) I didn't plan it though, but I will. I thought it would be just another video out of many of those jigs, so I didn't want to bore you to death, but I will now :-) After all, that pivoting table improvement deserve some PR because it works beautifully :-). Thank you for your comment Tee Flo :-) Take care.
