My favorite part of the film was when Martin Scorsese made a Cameo, looked at the camera and said “It’s Martin Time” and then Scorsesed all over Goncharov. Truly one of the Martin Scorsese movies of all time!
@@mefi1895 Don't get me started on Gucci, let's forget about this Meme for a second and talk about Jared Leto, how tf did he become an actor? How is it he has only 3 good acting roles? And everything else his dogshit in?
@@Astartes-6969 I wouldn't say he is bad overall he was great in Dallas Buyer's Club and will always have a soft spot for Jordan Catalano in My So-Called Life lol ❤
OMG you mentioned Jára Cimrman! He truly was a genious ahead of his time... Goncharov in an excellent movie, can´t believe it´s gonna be 50 years since the release...
You know ice pick Joe is actually nothing like he is in the novel, jara cimrman's novel describes him as a "short, fat man with hair on his arms with a big bushy beard and glasses." basically the opposite of John Cazale.
I should also mention that in the book, Valery Michialov has a weapon of choice: a ball peen hammer that he uses to bludgeon his foes. In the movie however, he uses whatever weapon he can get his hands on.
My personal favorite scene from this film - spoilers for a 50 year old movie, I guess - has to be the palace dance between Goncharov and Katya. It's an extremely surreal and dissonant scene, and it really has this dark undertone surrounding it when you rewatch it and remember how Katya betrays Goncharov. I heard that David Lynch was inspired by this film and uses it as his main inspiration for all of his works (which was how I found out about this film).
I feel like Marionette, (Mario’s little sister) is such an underrated character! She saved Goncharov twice and killed her own brother to end the conflict!
For me at least, one of the most underrated aspects of this film is the score. The motif used when Katya is introduced was in the same key as Goncharov's, but in a minor key instead of major. When they interact after that, the music uses a strong baseline on the octaves and fifths to emphasize the notes they have in common- up until the infamous betrayal scene, where both motifs start to play and it becomes obvious how much discord is between their music.
My favorite scene from Gonchorov was the Greco-Romano gay sex scene. Dont know why it was there, but it was a stunning, brave, and brilliant showcase of true Napoli culture. I'm surprised it wasn't cut from the film.
I played the video game first. Although it's gameplay mechanics are kinda rough around the edges, I liked it overall cuz of the story and atmosphere. Then I watched the movie and man, it is one of the greatest mob movies of all time. P. S this video is actually well made. Ngl, I love the parody of analysis videos ofnfilms on RUclips and this kinda nailed it.
I did manage to pick up a Betamax copy behind the former Iron Curtain in '87 - you know, when things were finally starting to look like they had changed for the better - but the Polish subtitles make for laughable watching for anyone with even a rudimentary understanding of the language. Oh well. At least it wasn't dubbed. Perhaps it's time, at last, to upload it?

I think his name was Luigi or something.
Does anyone remember that one Netflix Remake from 2019?
They cast Jared Leto to play Goncharov.
FUCKING GONCHAROV!!!!!!!
If it was anything like his performance in Gucci then I'm sure it was horrendous.

Nah. I think you're mistaken. That was the Original 1863 version that had Jared Leto. Surprising, I know.
The 2019 version was Danny Devito.
Weird choice to set it in America too
My favourite thing about the film is that it’s about gangsters from the fallen ussr, made 18 years before the ussr fell
Truly ahead of its time.
I love the editing in this. Also, your voice is, like, perfect for somber media analysis voice overs.
thank you! I stole the voice from tiktok text to speech exactly cause I thought it matched the tone
I wonder if this will ever get re-ran at theaters. Its what the fans want !

i think... it's finally time i watched Goncharov
it's a hard movie to track down a copy of 🏴☠️ but sooo worth it
@@afrox yeah all my information and money was hacked but it's really worth it.
I sold my left nutsack just to be allowed access to a 120p stream of Goncharov on an illegal russian website, good luck
- Winter comes to Naples...
- And snow is falling.
- Falling like sand in hourglass.
Easily the greatest dialogue in movie history.
When goncharov came out I begged my parents to take me to the theatre lol
i love you for mentioning the author of the original story
how could i not! important info
katya and sofia should’ve been endgame

The film is one thing but the game is an absolute masterpiece. First game I played, and by far the greatest
This is a great overview. So few people understand the delicate relationship between Scorcese and Matteo.
Matteo Brunei?

I was hesitant on the beginning but you sold me. I believe in this film. Hope I can get to see it!
Man, I wish I could watch this absolute masterpiece, sadly, it’s banned in my country
same
my favourite part of the movie was when Goncharov said it's goncharovin' time and goncharoved on everyone
I knew Cimrman had to have a hand in this movie! Truly, the greatest Czech.
only real goncharov fans have watched the 9 hour directors cut
Truly, a movie of all time
Great video!! Such an underated gem! Glad its getting more attention!
I need to rewatch this movie! Too bad it's not in my country's Netflix 😢
Goncharov lives! It's been all over Tumblr for a minute and a half.
Omg is this a lost media film from Scorsese? I've never heard of it! I'll try to watch it

Finally video. Essay of best movie ever
Hyperreality in good humor 😂
This is tge best mafia movie i have watch
Goncharov Is literally the fusion between Once Upon a Time in America and Novecento
I'm glad the film still had a few Tommy Guns, despite being a 70s film. And AKs too! Even a BAR a la Bonnie and Clyde!
my favourite scene is when Goncharov says "It's gonchin' time!" and then gonches all over Graggle Simpson's face
That was hot, not gonna lie.
Honestly it is so sad that this film doesn’t actually exist cuz I want to watch it so bad 😭
what do you mean? I watched this in theaters when it came out. /jk
ben harvey loved this movie 😭rip benny what a legend
Miss ya big man
oh my god another forgotten Cimrman masterpiece
Cybill Shepherd beautiful!
I finally got to watch it, good movie
Wait... where's John Cazale???
Nice!
Only funny thing about this "movie" is Joseph Morelli

Wow! It's one of my favorite films! This movie turned my life around. Thank you! Thank you very much!
