Winter comes to Naples.
This is not a real movie, this is a collective fever dream cooked up by tumblr.
Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship and research.
Where can I find the song???
Edit: It’s on Spotify!! Finally after all this years they decided to post this masterpiece on streaming platforms. It brings so many memories back!!! This was my favorite childhood movie :)
It is "Main Theme from Goncharov" by caramiaaddio on tumblr! I think she has also put it on spotify, so you should be able to find it there.
I miss watching this film with my grandparents as a child... the hungarian dub was awful, now that i've seen the english version i can tell
hiveswap on tumblr
hiveswap!!!
Hi mutual
Csuja Imre did a bang up job tho, cant argue with that
The original release Russian dub was the best
i usually don't really care much for mafia pew pew gun shoot movies, but goncharov really captivated me.
it's just _so full of symbolism!_ the themes! the motifs! the characters feel not just _alive,_ but _larger than life!_
* the broken clocks (the allegory is pretty obvious)
* the fact we never learn mr. Goncharov's name (he's defined by his family, it doesn't _matter_ what his name is- he's nothing *but* a Goncharov)
* the fact that the movie takes place in Naples yet everyone has russian names (scorsese playing with stereotypes, as well as the general sense of _not belonging_ that you can feel the characters going through)
* the whole movie is practically *_bursting at the seams_* with homoerotic subtext (in *_1973_* no less!)
* icepick joe best character
and this is just the stuff off of the top of my head!!!
This movie was way ahead of its time, probably why it was such a flop at the box office despite being critically acclaimed. Thank god people are rediscovering this masterpiece today though, its a pleasure to see kids engage with the movies of our youth
Yeah, Icepick Joe was absolutely terrifying every time he was on screen. Such a menacing presence, Ian Boggus was an incredible actor. RIP!
@@polish2945 Ian Boggus did some fine acting here - I don't deny, but at a certain point Icepick Joe stopped feeling like a character and more as a... literary device. Of course in a movie that veers so heavily into abstract symbolism, that's true a bit of all the characters.
the clock symbolism in this movie is *chef’s kiss*
One of those films you vaguely remember from having seen bits and pieces of as a kid and then re-discovering it after all this time. Truly a classic.
wow i've been looking for this for ages!! i'm glad people started talking about goncharov again! it's not a masterpiece or anything but it's honestly so underrated and it still holds up really well
its the best mafia movie ever made what do you mean its not a masterpiece
@@syneydesign I mean, it’s the best mafia movie ever made but that’s not achieving much. It’s no masterpiece as a film, just a mafia film. Nonetheless, I remember watching this with my relatives when I was a kid. Great times.
God this film brings me so much nostalgia... I remember the first time I saw it, I was at my grandmother's house and I sat the whole film through without leaving once (which did not happen often, since I was nine years old and had undiagnosed Must Move At All Times Disease, also known as ADHD). Rewatching it now, the movie isn't perfect, but it hits a certain part of my brain that just makes me so happy. RIP grandma, you gave me so many good memories.
That scene with the cigarettes between Goncharov and Andrey...the tension was so thick you could slice it with a knife. Masterclass in writing and acting ✨✨
Gosh I remember the first time I heard this song, I was playing on a shaggy carpet at my grandma's house and she was watching this on her old TV. She shooed me out of the room before anything crazy happened but I still remember the clockmaker and the opening credits.
Beautiful movie, wish grandma was still around to give it a watch with me 😢
Truly a remarkable trailer for a classic masterpiece. Thanks for the distribution.
I watched this movie so many times growing up but I don't think I've ever seen the official trailer! I can't even imagine how exciting it would've been to see this in theaters. I'm getting sentimental!
"What you saved in cash, you lost in time".
This scene had me in shambles. Such incredible writing and filmography in this movie. Every time I hear the main theme of the movie all the scenes where it plays come to memory like if i saw the movie that exact day. Everyone should watch this movie at least 2 or 3 times imo.
This movie is a classic! Up there with Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and all of Scorsese's best! Shame it's gone under most people's radar, you'd think with the renewed interest in old crime movies as of late Goncharov would also see a resurgence.
I'm pretty sure Scorsese's name was just put on it to sell tickets
@@waffleusb2911 Right??? Matteo JWHJ0715 is CONSTANTLY getting overlooked. I'm so annoyed. Y'all think Scorsese is the one who gave you the Sofia/Katya kiss? The ANCHOVY SCENE? Be real.
i think my grandpa had this on a vhs tape..... its so familiar, the clocks matched the one in his house. ill have to ask him about this movie again soon
"somehow, we always seem to be running short on time"
I remember watching this when I was 10 without my parents knowledge. It really made me who I am today. I rewatch it on my every once in a while, it’s such a masterpiece. Anyone who hasn’t seen it is really missing out.
i know we cant get over the clocktower scene but i hope we all can agree that the first bridge scene is a masterpiece as well. when youre watching it the second time you can really see how brilliant the parallels between this scene and the finale are. and everything the speech about a night without an end actually means - makes me cry every time.
Oh,that bridge scene is a masterpiece! You know, i read somewhere that the scene actually inspired Simon and Garfunkle’s song Bridge over troubled water.
"A night without end" - Even those four words from the speech give me chills every time I hear them.
My god, I haven’t seen this trailer in years. I know it’s a little weird given the subject matter but Goncharov was always one of my favourite movies growing up
such an underrated film, I haven't seen the trailer pop up in forever. bless
Brings me back to the old times🤧 Thank you so much for sharing this trailer with us I couldn’t live without this movie
oh, how sweet. all these years, i thought Goncharov had, after all, turned into a lost media. i could never find anything about it; sometimes i even considered it to be part of my imagination or some fever dream - but i’m glad Goncharov is (finally!) receiving the attention it deserves, to the point where people are bringing back clips of the movie and soundtracks. now i can finally rewatch it and geez, the nostalgia 😭💝
Be still, my heart... I can't believe I found footage of Goncharov on RUclips. I'd only ever seen it on my family's prized VHS copy. Just beautiful.
Can you imagine spending your time watching marvel movies with films like this out there
This song makes me cry to this day... so many memories! I truly think this is one of the greatest mafia movies ever made. Matteo FV173931 is wholly underrated
NO WAY.. i thought i had dreamt that movie, i must've been 5 or 6 when i saw it. All i remembered was that scene with Goncharov but it stuck with me. Even at that age I knew there was something special about this film. This is Scorsese at the height of his powers. Only wish my dad was here to relive this moment with me. Love you dad, love you Goncharov.
The first time I watched this movie was with my mom who is a movie critic for a newspaper and was supposed to write an article about the re-discovery of this movie after it was lost media for so long and it really got me! This movie and some of the theatre plays she took me to see are the reason why I wanna work in costume and set design! I’m so glad this masterpiece is finally getting the recognition it deserves!!
Watching this trailer again, years after after seeing the movie for the first time- it hits hard. Even just the music, oh my god the music. And the clocks?! At first I thought they were just a fun little gimmick and looked cool. But after having seen the movie... wow, [Mild spoiler warning I guess?]
I certainly didn't expect them to be such an important theme to the story.
This movie is finally getting the respect it deserves! Like, honestly, take that awards shows
So great to see a classic like this finally get the acknowledgement it deserves!
Truly a masterpiece they don’t make movies like that anymore
I remember my dad always told me to watch this with him
He passed away due to testicular cancer. I'm gonna watch this movie next week
This is for you dad😥😥
i remember finding this movie hidden amongst my grandmas things as a kid, it was something they would never have let me watch, so i convinced my older sibling to help me watch it without them knowing. it was an absolutely wonderful movie that i hold dear to my heart; and it helped my sibling and i really bond for the first time, since our age gap felt so big (5 years difference).
Not to mention all of the homoerotic subtext that helped me come out. truly beautiful! and the iconic line “if we were really in love, you wouldn’t have missed” gave such a heavier feeling to when Andrey shot Goncharov at the end. God, i could go on about this movie forever!
I lived in the USSR. I was a navigator and was just in Naples. This film shows the realities of that time, it shows everything exactly as it was
This movie is a favorite of my great grandmother. When I saw this show she was watching on MeTV during my Christmas visit with my mother, she tell me it was one of her all-time favorite movies. It's no surprise that she has superb taste in movies because she is a classy woman. However, I wouldn't imagine it to be an action film. I'll go speak with her about our upcoming Christmas visit.
Goncharov truly is an under-rated masterpiece. Will forever be grateful that my friend had the VHS and introduced this to me way back in the 90's. Just hearing those first notes on the piano takes me straight back to those days!
thank you so much for sharing this trailer! the first time I watched this movie was years and years ago, and im so happy that people are finally giving it the attention it deserves. truly ahead of its time.
A few years ago when I did a semester abroad in Nice a classmate showed me this film - The french dub kinda sucked but to this day I still cry when I rewatch the last scene... Thanks for uploading this to youtube. (..And thank you Eloise for showing me Goncharov. Miss you & wish you well, wherever you are)
Such a beautiful and challenging films. Truly one of Scorsese's best. I'm glad it's making a resurgence and finally getting the recognition it deserves. The main theme is so haunting and beautiful it gives me chills every time
I just watched this movie for the first time ever and wow what a masterpiece. Do yourself a favour and go watch it now if you never have, rewatch it if you have! This trailer is gorgeous and the movie even better.
Crazy that so many people watched this as kids. I first watched it in middle school when I was in my edgy film bro phase. It honestly changed me (for the better I hope lol)
i don't know why this film got popular again recently but i love it!!! i remember watching it when i was a child, i rewatched it today. probably not the best movie my father could show me when i was 9, i still remember being mad cause i wanted to watch shark tales instead. but it's one of my favorites now!
omg thank you for uploading this!!! I remember watching it with my mom when I was a little kid, it was a gift to her from my abuela and my mom wanted us to watch it!!! I love Katya, she slayed
Man watching this brings tears to my eyes, so many memories from watching this film... Truly a timeless masterpiece from Scorsese
My dad talks about al Pacino movies all the time like they're gods gift to cinema but the only one I'd ever consider worth anything at all is this one right here. I don't know how scorcese managed to get the likes of Marisa and Cybil to be a part of this but you can bet it wouldn't be half as good as it is without them
FINALLY people started talking about it!! After years of being forgotten the good stuff will always resurface
Peak Cinema, Marvel has no chance.
This movie was why I was never allowed to choose a movie for movie night at my grandparents Thanksgiving ever again. I had a weird fascination with the mafia.
I'm linking this in the MyCast page I made for Goncharov.
Ah Goncharov, a masterpiece, truly ahead of its times
I remember renting this at Blockbuster on VHS. It was misfiled between Zorro and Zombie High. Mom wouldn't let me watch it so Dad put it on when she went out. I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks. The clocks... the whole thing. But that ending really took me by surprise the first time I watched it. Every time I watch it, I appreciate the symbolism more.
This movie is very near and dear to my heart. I remember my parents watching it when I was little. Of course, I was too young to remember much of it really, but rewatching it now, it feels very nostalgic somehow.
Did you know Lynda carter was in this as a backup dancer ? She went to the premiere too 😊
screaming crying throwing up this film changed my brain chemistry forever
God I remember watching this for the first time as a kid back in the day on my old VHS tape with a couple of friends and my dad, who showed it to us. I remember being so stunned by it and how my friends and I used to reference and make jokes about this movie all the time.. Definitely deserving of the current attention it's getting. Such a classic!!
We had this on VHS when I was a kid and when I couldn't sleep, I'd sneak into the tv room to put on the clockwork scene.
I remember watching this with my aunts back in my home country, I had no idea the spanish dub stuck to the movie so well, this movie is one of the few memories that have stuck to my mind.
i loved this movie as a kid 😭 i didnt really understand it all that well but on rewatch i realised how insane this movie actually is. the clock scene is one of the best scenes in cinematic history and the clock symbolism in general keeps me up a night just thinking about it. im so obsessed and its genuinely super upsetting that not many people have seen it
What made it even crazier for me was that the print I saw? The clock scene had a splice in it, making it stutter a few frames - the hands went from one minute before nine to one minute after! Considering what happens at that point? It drove me nuts until I learned I was watching a bad print!
I remember watching this movie way back in the theatres when it was released. The smoke-filled cold stale new york air at the theatre just added to the grittiness of this film. It truly changed my life
Recuerdo haber visto Goncharov cuando tenía 3 años y fue fantástico, en cada Navidad la veíamos reunidos en familia.
I used to get nightmares from this film, i watched it as a kid staying up late and the blood frightened me.
I never saw this film (far too young) but my Dad speaks of it fondly- please tell me it’s available to watch somewhere, this trailer has me hooked!
I think Netflix may be picking it up again in the next little while because of the renewed hype, but honestly I'd be really careful about it if you're prone to/triggered by any kind of existential dread. I watched it for the first time 8-10 ish years ago and it messed me up
my grandparents were those types of people that would have us watch goncharov every christmas. It's still a tradition in our family to have it on in the background, despite my grandfather passing away a couple years ago.
I remember watching Goncharov with my grandparents at their cottage, it was truly a masterpiece, ahead of its time and genuinely a really good film. Seeing this brings back so much nostalgia
The strange thing is that nobody ever touches upon how funny this film is, even with all the great reviews it's getting now No one talks about all the great subtle one liners (mostly from Cazale OF COURSE). You can really see how it influence the dialogue of films like Goodfellas and the hangover part 3
I love this film so much... i watched it with my dad for the first time a few years ago and honestly it's since become one of my favourite films of all time. one of my friends asked me to describe it to them and the only way i can describe it "anything can happen in goncharov" because, really? anything *can* happen in goncharov... it's just such a powerful film
It's funny because now that I think about it, Goncharov was probably my first introduction to homoeroticism. As a kid of course you're very used to noticing two characters having feelings for each other, and then confessing and ending up together by the end of the movie. It was confusing and fascinating for me to watch the bridge scene and experience *(SPOILERS)* not a confession, but a murder/suicide. This probably subconsciously laid the groundwork for all my favorite fucked up love stories now (Phantom Thread, Gone Girl). Thanks Marty.
I saw this movie at WAY too young an age ha ha, it wasn't until years later that I rewatched it and fully appreciated it. Cybil Shepherd was an absolute revelation in this movie.
i love this movie sm omg ive wanted to buy a copy of the dvd forever but no one has it in store anymore!!! its crazy bc i see people selling their ebay listings for it and they're all like... hundreds of dollars like cmon
It's a beautiful film, both in its writing and its cinematography, plus the music is phenomenal. It truly is a classic and I could confidently say that it is Martin Scorsese's best work.
My fav movie... I watched it in school, and there was a debate after it. Loved the music, I hadn't seen the trailer for ages
My favorite movie my dad showed me as a kid, I remember that he managed to get a disc copy before they stopped making them, I still have it and rewatch it at least once a month. Brings back so many good memories, I'm glad its getting the recognition it deserves
I think my dad had the poster for this movie I remember as a kid I used stare it for a lot of time because it looked cool. I had honestly forgotten about this movie completely until this popped up on my recommendations. And it made me watch it and honestly I loved it! thanks for posting this❤
They couldn’t make a movie like this these days.
damnnn, i remember this movie! so good
I hate gore so I’ve never watched this movie all the way through but we analyzed parts of it in my sound design class and god it’s beautiful. Walter Murch is a fucking genius with timing and metaphoric foley, we watched the dinner scene and learned the ticking of the clock in the background was subtly overlaid with the sound of a knife being sharpened and it made total sense because I’ve never felt so tense from just like 2 minutes of a movie. Like the buildup was insane I was POSITIVE Mario was gonna stab him and then it just… never happened. (Well not NEVER… but yknow. not in that scene) Genius. I can’t find it anywhere else where it’s not like $200 collector VHS tapes so THANK YOU for uploading this
wow, i've never actually seen the trailer before. i'd seen the movie when i was a child (my great uncle let me watch the lighter scenes and skipped the violent ones, which i'm forever grateful for, it's a memory i treasure) and have rewatched it many times since but due to all the infamous distribution issues i'd never come across the trailer. thanks for making this available to the public; i'm so glad this masterpiece is finally getting the recognition it deserves!
been looking for this for years!! thanks for uploading 😊
О Боже, я смотрел это с отцом в детстве. Его уже нет с нами, но теперь я наконец знаю название его любимого фильма. Спасибо рекомендации ютуба!!!
i wish i could go back to when i watched this movie for the first time
This came out well before I was born, but I remember my dad took me to see this when my local theater was having an Italian film festival. This made such an impression on me when I was a kid. This movie made me want to be a writer as an adult
I don't usually watch mafia movies but Goncharov will always have a special place in my heart
it's honestly a good movie.
Oh man... I remember seeings this as a child on local television. Had no idea what it was and searched high and low to no results - now, I know I'm not crazy!
Im so glad Goncharov is getting the recognition it deserves! I love the last battle, easily in the 10 of the best ever put on the big screen
That fruit cart scene omg ⭐️ I don’t really like these kinds of movies but that scene got me hooked
oh wow you were able to get such high quality of this lost classic film. and with it’s 50th anniversary coming up too
Never heard of it before but after watching i dont understand how this movie went under the radar for so long.
Only classic movie I can stand watching till the end honestly
The first time my dad showed me this movie I was at lost for words. It's such a great master piece for something that never existed. Goncharov shall always be in our hearts
One of the most insane things about this trailer as it relates to the film it's for is like... y'know how one of the criticisms for movie trailers nowadays is that they show you basically the whole movie in the trailer so it's just like, "well why the hell should I see it now?" This trailer, if it had any audio other than the main theme, would be doing exactly that. There are scenes in here that I have to physically stop myself from talking about when I show this movie to someone. But because there is no dialogue whatsoever you learn nothing and the intrigue just keeps building and building. It's not anything near a spoiler so much as it is like... plot exhibitionism. Just a little peak to get you riled, and then it leans in, grinning and is just like, "And I bet you wanna see more, don't ya?"
the spaghetti scene where he cooks up a fine meatball for audreys spaghetti, only for it to be stolen by joel harver ii, was such a brilliant scene, 10/10 movie
Ugh I just wanna sit and watch this with my parents again, those nights were always the coziest for me
Such a beautiful film ❤ I remember when i watched this when i was 8 years old after i first wet the bed. My grandma showed me this movie and i was gobsmacked at its beauty, it’s wonderful and amazing visuals as well as its deep characters. Amazing.
0:12
My parents didn't allow me to watch this until I was 13. What a shame, it's so good
I don't really remember watching this movie but it feels nostalgic somehow
my dad and i were so excited to see people finally recognising goncharov!! we watched it together when i was younger and it's something that's sparked so many inside jokes between us!!! there will never be another mafia movie that comes anywhere close to this one
I remember sneaking out of my room at night to watch this when I was a kid… little six year old me only saw the boat scene… imagine my trauma and enthrallment… I can’t help but wonder who I would have become today if I’d seen the clock tower scene instead
This is the best film of all time
I'm so much love this film🥰🥰🥰
Missing watching this with my family
